Mate, that's awesome! my son started at an early age like you. Makes me feel good to know you'll be able to feed yourself and others as you grow older.
I'm glad you love planting, that is great to hear from a young person. Most young people just stay on their devices and social media. So your comment made my day brighter, thank you. 👍✌️
You are the man! I’m in corporate sales now for a decade but come from farmers. My goal is to get out and start my own fruit farm. Planting avocado, Mamey, papaya, banana, pineapple and veggies in my yard in Fort Lauderdale now. Practicing for the real thing!
New subscriber from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬. Thank you for sharing the tip. We are a tropical country and that plant grows like crazy everywhere in the forest and some people like to grow then as house plants but we never eat the fruit so again thanks for sharing the knowledge. Really appreciate 🙏🏼
Wow..... That's such a Man Fruit.......?... I love it.. married 40 years. I want my baby to have one.. God bless you dude. BTW,, My Hubby is a Concrete Driver.
Thank you for this indications My husband and I tray a lot a times and don't results, now we have one and we take care the little tree the way you said.
Hello Friends! We have very small ones here in Cambodia but we don’t eat it. Maybe it’s different species from yours. Thank you for sharing about it with me. Happy new year 2024 ❤😊 8:31
Love your videos!! Learn so much. I attended a Home and Garden show several years back and bought a Monstera plant because of the taste. They have been in the pots since and not grown much. I have them by a Palm tree but they are not moving much. Should I change the tree I place them by. Should I put them in the ground? How long does this plant take to fruit? You failed to mention how to serve them and do you peel it like an apple? Thanks so much. Can we visit your farm, I’m in state but not local and could make a day trip down. Thanks so much for all the information, education and fun videos.
Hi Susan, thanks for reaching out. Pots tend to limit growth especially for monstera, they need a lot of space for their roots. If you are in zone 10a or above you can put it in the ground. they like to travel toward shade then up the source of the shade. I don't know how long from planting but it takes a good year from when you first see the fruit until it's edible. This vid shows how to eat them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4khfxay6Uog.html And yes, I'd love to have you come visit. There's a lot to do in this area, fruit stands, nurseries, Everglades National Park. Feel free to get my number from the "about" section of my channel and send me a text. thx.
Lamenting the state of the world now--totally agree. I remember the 'horrible' 1960's/70's and the fretting then, later the '80's and all the way to the present.
Sleepy do sell the seeds for these anywhere? I’m on the UK and only have the small form here! We’ll mostly, would love to purchase some seeds of the large form!
I grow mine from cuttings. I'm not sure how to grow them from seed. that said, I know they are somewhat popular and available in Portugal so you might be able to find somebody over there to ship you a few cuttings.
Yes, it blew me away how fast they went. When I was out picking today I had to drop what I was doing and run inside to mark them as sold out. I wish I had 10 times more
Warning! If you eat Monstera fruit before it is fully ripe, it is like eating fiberglass. When it is ripe, it should be almost falling off of the cone. 🤙❤️
I wanted to ask can you graph a mango tree with like an baby oak tree? Or does it have to be another kind of mango tree? I really want to grow amazing sweet mango also in what country do you live it seems like it’s always summer there
Mate, yes I'm in South Florida it is always summer here. Great question, for grafting you have to stay within species so mango with mango, apple with apple, etc.
@@mate7869 with regards to grafting, you can typically graft plants together which are in the same plant family. In taxonomy, a family is basically a group of genuses. For example, tomatoes and capsicums can be grafted together despite being in different genuses but they're in the same family which is Solanaceae.
Hey man, it's me again, I hope you're doing well and having a fantastic day. Just wanted to ask you something about their flavour. So, have you ever noticed difference in the flavour through the years? Why do they sometimes have a super exotic flavour resembling a combo of jackfruit and pineapple, but other years just plain banana cream flavour? I can't remember what and if I did differently, since I have to wait more than a year to taste them again. The only thing I can think of, is that this past winter was heavier than usual, could that have played a role in the poor flavour?
@@SleepyLizard makes sense, since I had to pick seven of them a bit early from a branch that broke from the weight of the fruits and all of them had the unfortunate banana flavor.
Spelunking that was awesome , I’ve done that somewhere in California. The place called moaning Cavern. Love the part about let the sad people chew on a good fruit
Steve, funny you say that. I think part of what makes Monstera taste so good is the expectation is so low because the fruit does in fact resemble a pine cone like you say.
I’m still concerned I might pick mine too soon, how do I know when it’s ready to pick? I’m also kinda of surprised that you didn’t give the warningThat you can hurt yourself if you don’t eat it properly
you will see the kernels on the surface start to separate and fall off, also you'll smell it. I can't remember if I spoke about the oxalates that sting your tongue or not in this vid.
Advertisement? I think a passion. You kindly share your joy with others. It's very good that you can earn some money at the same time. And that's it! God Bless SleepyLizard Av😊cado Farm. 👍👍👍
I have a monstera plant and never knew... it's been quietly making massive holey leaves for years. Because of this video, I looked behind the leaves.... and see a fruit!!! I imagine it has a long way to go before ripening, but this is a new experience!
If you are in the northern hemisphere, the fruit should ripen about midway through the month of August. You’ll smell it if it starts to ripen and you could pick it and eat it.
Hi. Great video as always. Would you be able to supply Monstera Deliciosa seeds perhaps ? I have two plants grown from cuttings which are doing very well but I would like to grow from seed as a long term plant project.
@@SleepyLizard Hi. Thank you for the reply. I will check to see if importing of fruit privately is possible. I’m in the EU and I am expecting it to be well regulated and subject to a process. Once I have checked I can let you know. Thanks again. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@michaelc2645 no need to check, it's not possible for me to send fruit to EU countries. I've had lot's of viewers look into it. As a farmer I understand why not, we don't want to spread critters.
@@SleepyLizard Hi, thank you for the confirmation of what I was expecting. I agree it’s wise to try to keep things carefully controlled. Perhaps if I keep looking I can find some of the seeds I want. Thanks again and all the best
How can I know wish one is the right variety, I have been looking for one plant and I realized there are multiple sellers on eBay but not sure how to get the right one
@@SleepyLizard thanks so much for replying. I have seen the listing’s on eBay and my concern is they list like monstera deliciosas ( Swiss cheese plant) or windowleaf, or Monstera Deliciosa - Split Leaf Philadendron …..Giant Monstera Deliciosa, Monstereo Delicio, Balazo. So im not sure if all those are the same . Sometimes sellers don’t even know what they’re selling.
@@yiyihsgarden5240 yes, it's difficult because there are a lot of colloquialisms but if you get Monstera Deliciosa from a reputable place that will be the variety with edible fruit. That's what the "delciosa" part means. But we grow sapodilla which are called Chicos on the west coast and some folks call them nisperos. My wife on the other hand calls a loquat a nispero
@@SleepyLizard ❤️ thanks so much for that info you’re right i will better wait to get it from a real nursery so i will be sure of what im getting. And yes in my family we all call sapodilla like nispero and was really hard to find plants ro me because when I was asking for nispero people bring me loquat 🤣. Then i realized nispero can be called sapodilla or chico zapote which is confusing because at same time zapote Is how we call to Mamey 😅😅🥹🤦🏻♀️
Thanks for the video. This spring I took a cutting from a 40+ year old Monstera that my grandmother planted and this summer it started growing the fruit and I didn't know what it was. The original plant never gave fruit and it never crossed my mind it could even have fruit.
@@SleepyLizard It really is. The roots grew so big they already started coming out of the pot and I need to put it in bigger one, but I'm afraid to do anything because of the fruit.
@@SleepyLizard I have a massive one in my yard with about 20 on it this year. It is good but definitely wait till its ripe and let the scales fall off on there own
I see this guy as a house plant a lot. It’s so amazing what this plant turns into in the right environment. It’s mythical to me, the monstera fruit. I’ve never seen a mature plant or tasted the fruit. Me parace tan rico
@@SleepyLizard I can't leave Germany without a mask on the plane, and in America, as far as I know, you can only enter with a injection almost everywhere. I have less than no desire for both. I hope the translation is understandable 😅
@@SleepyLizard I didn't try it, just read it. I don't want to be helpless, penniless abroad, should they again decide to initiate another round of the game.
