It was great to see the latest video. The pigs...they saw you approaching with that container!!!! That was an enjoyable moment at the trough! Thank you for enlightening all of us who never knew about fescue growth and seeds. That combine in operation reminds me of my childhood in the summer on my grandparents farm, only his was used for wheat. Many appreciate industrious, active, enterprising men and women. You are to be counted among those hard-working citizens. Thank you!!!!!!
I like your NAVY shirt ! I was in the USNavy from Oct. 1971 to Aug. 1975. Roger Hocker from Pleasant Hill near Kansas City, Missouri was in my squadron (VA-42) !
Enjoyed your video!! Hard working man!! Those pigs, some good pork chops acoming!! And the kitties, too cute. Thanks for sharing. Peace from SW Florida 😇!!!!
I’m trying desperately to get rid of fescue in my yard. Most lawn weed killer doesn’t affect it at all. Grows in clumps and taller than regular grass. To me it’s a weed. But great to see your operation. You really have a lot of balls in the air so to speak. Great to see how it’s all integrated.
Only just found your channel and subscribed, I like your explanation of making money any way you can with old gear as I am reclaiming old Tractors to try to get out Horse property running so Grass seed and growing it is interesting to us to bring health to really poor country. It's a Connection that so many have forgotten and I think given the changes in 2020 its even more relevant for people to understand they can get broken free stuff and fix some of it and keep moving them of trading them until you have working gear that may not be pretty but she gets things done, instead of the bank owning everything. anyway Cheers From Garry from Australia and keep em coming
we had a combine like that no cab, we done quite a bit of fescue here in Ky, we would take it to a tobacco warehouse and dry it then bag it then sell it...didn't bring much back then .....Great Vid👍👍👍👍🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜
I’m a grass seed farmer from Oregon. I just put out a video on my channel showing how we do grass seed harvest. Extremely different process. I show us combing some k-31. Our yields range from 1500 to 2200 pounds per acre.
Please try and keep your hand out of the auger envelope. A wooden handled scraper would work and could probably be tucked away on the equipment for storage.
Cool video. I like to let my lawn "go to seed" before I cut it. I don't know if it does much good or not because I can only let the grass get about 5 inches tall before it gets too tall to cut with my riding mower. So, not sure if the seed is totally mature or not. I know some of it is because where ever I dump my clippings, grass starts to grow.
You've got your numbers backwards there... Oregon is responsible for 2/3 of grass seed production worldwide (approx.). They don't run cattle on the fields and yield upwards of a ton (2k lbs.) to the acre. New Zealand is another big producer if I remember correctly. Nice video otherwise and I love the old 45 you've got! Kinda wish I had one...
Not sure what I said in the video exactly but yes you are correct, Oregon is the leader when it comes to fescue seed. And yeah the yields up there are insane compared to what we get down here in Missouri even if we don’t run cattle on the pastures. It seems like they treat it more like a crop than we do down here. Thanks for the info and have a good one!
I am south of STL, I let my pigs on a small field, they ate all the weeds. The fescue took over! Its hardy. Don't know how far you live from Illinois but I saw you had combine problems. Craigslist STL and Illinois they always have some cheap ones $5k, 2k, and less. common to see Gleaner and JD's
Only thing I hate about fescue is, taking a tobacco stick and havin to climb up the combine and punch a hole and push the seed out, then gravity wagon same thing, that seed will not come out like ol corn👍👍👍👍👍👍
Before you start place a plastic fou inch pipe standing upright in bin then when it is full you pull it out and you got a hole made all the way down to the bottom auger. Still have to poke but gives you a head start.
Excellent description and a great way to make a few bucks. Now... Move that seed with a shovel. It is better to chop up a shovel than to chop off your hand!
@@FarmandHammer if you have any wooded land thin it out leave the nice trees with spacing. That passive shade will save your forage in the dead of summer like right now.
I don't know who the middle man is, but they are getting rich! It sure isn't 60 cents per lb in Lowe's! Also, why is it Kentucky 31 rescue if it all comes from Missouri? Lol
What about growing fescue if you already have cows and are needing to Dow some seed in patchy areas, just growing the amount you need to cut the cost when grass seed is high like last year?
Nice video very interesting. Dont see a lot of fescue here in fla pastures if any mainly coastal an different kinds of Tifton.Depending where you are farming in the state.
Grass seed in oregon look way different we cut with rows and pick it up with pick up head we get around 1200 to 1800 pound and the field are very clean most the farm are big 1000-8000 Acra and run newer equipment because harvest is only about 30 day long
Hi hello just saw your channel on how you harvest grass do you sell and ship your grass seed, I get mine from Home Depo, or Lowes but I was just thinking would you sell me a bag and ship to me
Allowing the lawn to go to seed is what causes it to die back. Once it completes it's mission to produce a new generation it is done. Mowing causes the grass to send up shoots from the roots. (tillering) That in turn makes a thicker lawn.
The combine separates it as good as it can. So I’m the end it averages 82% fescue seed. You only get paid for what percentage fescue seed you bring in. The seed buyer cleans it again and gets it down to pure fescue seed.
Besides nagging about the age of an old combine. At least think of it like this, 1. Paid off 2. Last Forever... & 3. Minus some of the repairs go It's simpler than a lot of the things back then & go back 2. Last forever.
All of the seed is combined together. The company that buys it will store it for 2 or 3 years and by that time it is technically endophyte free tall fescue. Most of the see will just be sold as k31.
