Your cat said, hey that looks like fun. Let me help you with that. LOL Nice looking potato's, and you are so right about them tasting better than store bought ones. Thank you for the video Blake, and Luke. :)
The potatoes look nice, I've never tried growing in bags before, harvesting is much easier than in dirt. I just planted a couple more rows of potatoes tonight, some of them the small ones that I saved and have been sprouting. I've planted them before and the plants did just fine so it's a good idea to save them.
Absolutely Correcto Mundo on fresh homegrown taters. . .the best! So glad you had success. Thank you for sharing! Enjoyed the kitty visit! Too cute! hey hey Luke!
Nice harvest! I had a pretty good harvest from just 3 seeds. You are so right about the taste my daughter is away and she made me promise I wouldn't eat them without her LOL.
it was fun watching the cat either trying to help or get in the way :) that was a nice harvest even with the spuds good luck using them as seeds later. thanks for sharing,
We dug the rest of our potatoes today. I probably only planted about 3 pounds of seed potatoes but got a pretty good return. We have eaten 3 good meals from them already and are getting two more good meals (I'm talking potatoes being the main course, as in the corned beef hash with our hens' eggs we had) from them. Small stuff, I guess, but getting 5 good meals from some potatoes that would have gone rotten if I hadn't planted them is pretty nice to me. :) Your potatoes look wonderful, and no, you can't believe the taste difference!
Over 70 days???!!!??? You just planted them 2 weeks ago...sure seems like that! Your kitties sure do like to "help" you, absolutely the result of being loved by you. Nice harvest!
+Chris Dahl Yep, they love to "help"! LOL The timing thing really threw me this time. I had to go back to check dates on the videos to know what was going on :)
Blake that is the main reason we grow our own produce too. I find the taste of home grown tomatoes is really great. Best wishes Bob. Happy editing too :-D
Nice harvest! I got what you got from one fabric pot...but in a 25 gallon fabric pot so clearly I did something wrong haha. Ah well, I've got a list of improvements for next year that I think should improve next harvest.
I really enjoy and love your channel. Have you tried planting a moringa oleifera? I think you should try a frew seeds since this "bush" and later "tree" is full of protein, minerals and vitamins. You can ear the root, the trunk , the leaves and even the seeds. On the other hand the tree itself cleans water and much more. Search it out. Regards from Chile!
another good video! being the cat lover that I am, I couldn't help noticing the "excellent help(?)" you got from the yellow tabby. I love potatoes also!
+Mark W I did Sweet Potatoes last season from slips. Unfortunately I didn't save any tubers for seeds. In a few days I have a video coming out about how I'm doing my Sweet Potatoes this year.
+peter bochek I really need to do an update video about that :) Did you see my video about the storm damage just a couple days ago? Well... the greenhouse stood through all that :)
Hello Blake, yes I watched your video about the recent storm damage ! All things considered you suffered minimal damage ! The good Lord and Mother Nature has a way of showing us from time to time who is really the boss ! I am happy to see that your Harbor Freight green house survived the violent storm ! You had mentioned your mesquite tree damage, just a suggestion but I would market your chipped mesquite wood by the pound via the internet ....Blake Wood Mesquite...make no mesquite about it....Texas grown ! Regards , Pete
+The Weekend Homestead sometimes it takes me an hour to shoot a 10 minute video just because I pause every time I hear a plane coming. or, a monster trucks and motorcycles revving up using our country road as a drag strip.
Its funny people dont think about that stuff until they start doing videos. Mine is wind. I never realized how windy it is up on the homestead. We are the highest point in the county so we have lots of wind. I would have never guessed car issues or plane issues on your side. You have a great eye for the little details like that
The Weekend Homestead We aren't the far out from town and San Antonio. There are several military installations around here that fly jets all day long. We have a nice little slice of heaven here, but we can hear the other side pretty good sometimes too :) I'm sure that wind noise is pretty annoying for you too!
+sumochop360 We are mostly seasonal eaters. We have done some canning of salsas and jams, but mostly we cook it up while the gettin' is good :) Thanks for joining me here!
+Blake “Daddykirbs” Kirby I'm glad to be here! looking forward to more bee videos since that's how I stumbled onto the channel. good luck with everything and thank you for the quality content.
Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with thy riches, and with the first fruits of all thine increase. So shall thy barns be filled with abundance, and thy presses shall burst with new wine. Use the biggest and best potatoes for your next planting of potatoes and they will make more sprouts and more potato to harvest !! 😉
So, since you have composted them in the past without any problems, what are you going to do with them this season? I didn't find it very clear what your decision for them would be. I don't know specifically for potato plants, but I find that some of the things that everyone seems to believe is not always the truth. That might be a fun video, sharing some of the things that work for you that might be contrary to popular belief. It sounds like this might just be one of those cases.
+SELF-RELIANCE and a STRONG COMMUNITY You make a great point. I sounded a bit wishy washy on that one. In the past I have composted them without knowledge of it being good or bad. I think it really depends on the presence of the fungus in the first place. If it isn't there, no problem... I think. See... wishy washy again. I need to do more reading on the subject. For now I'll be tossing my potato and tomato plants over to the fence line just to be safe.
+Blake “Daddykirbs” Kirby ... anything smaller than about half a large chicken egg will produce small, underdeveloped, struggling plants. I try to keep mine the size of an egg for seed. I've tried the small superball sized down to marble and even pe sized. as I said up there - don't bother. You will be disappointed. I save my see egg sized, and overwinter them in egg cartons in the refrigerator to be brought out for chitting on Dalentine's Day (Feb 15th-ish) and planted April Fools (April 1st-ish). size/weight is iportant. half an egg to full egg size. Smaller will be a disaster.
