Harvesting overwintered onions and how to check for white rot

Today I harvested my overwintered Japanese onions. Planted as sets in October/November last year.
It seems the coveing of the alliums with veggiemesh has worked.......on the most part, no Allium Leaf miner infection!!!
These onions are HUGE!!!!
I show how to check for potential white rot and how to dry and store them.
Also, I don't like leaving beds empty, so I plant out the brassicas that I sowed a few weeks ago in preparation for replacing the onions. Trying Romanesco cauliflower for the first time so that should be interesting.

Fantastic onion harvest with more to come! I use my zipper greenhouse shelves just like that! My garlic harvest is on there right now. You were so smart to start those cauliflower plants ahead..I’m wishing I had now that my garlic is out. Oh well time for direct sowing still.

You should try Autumn Champion onions Will, I grow them as an over winter crop and every year I get massive onions. I found them better than the Japanese ones. I think Danny has tried the Autumn chamions this year too. Also watch those Brassicas there is a cabbage white circling around thinking about what a good place for their eggs 😂😂(I know you will have netted them but it was funny seeing the butterfly)
@theflyinggardener

ooh like the rack you are using,where did you get it from please Will? after drying onions and garlic where and how do you store please?
@theflyinggardener
@theflyinggardener Год назад
Hi Lisa, the racking is basically one of those mini greenhouse frames without the top on. So handy….multi functional! 😂 So, after drying i store in a dark cool dry place in either cardboard crates or hessian sacks. Or I use string to hang them . My garage is the ideal place for them! But I dry them all at the plot first! 😁💪🏼🌻
