If it were me, I would do some trial plantings to see which plants or vegetables grow well on that land. Grow a few pineapples, bananas and gourd for example. Your chillies seemed to be ok but not so much for cabbages and watermelons. Some are more prone to attacks and may need more water for them to do well. In addition, don't be shy to approach farms, other farmers or individuals to get supplies to sell and also learn from other people on how to go about it. It will get easier when you do it a few times.
