Harvesting Yellow Field Peas in Western Nebraska
#harvest2020 #farmvideo #nebraska #harvest #combine #tractor
Video I shot in July of 2020 of a western Nebraska farmer harvesting yellow field peas with his Gleaner R72 combine and John Deere 4955 tractor pulling a Brent 1084 grain cart.
Video was shot in a field between Alliance and Hay Spring Nebraska.

I love to add split peas to my soups and stews to thicken them up. I think green split peas are a little sweeter and yellow split peas are a little more earthy flavored. I also like to use lentils, they come many colors with different flavors.

Great video. I didn't know they grew split peas in Nebraska. From your other video, I also didn't know they grew carrots in Wisconsin, and I was born and raised there. Your channel is very educational. In Saskatchewan, they grow a lot of peas, for feed and other uses. They also bale the pea straw for bedding- curious to know if they do that here? At 10:01 I love the sound of that John Deere accelerating with the grain cart through the field. I thinking about recording that sound and playing it on exterior speakers on my Suburban, whenever I go up hill, to see peoples reactions. LOL.

Great vid Mike. The Gleaner was going a little slower than the ones yesterday, eh? I do like pea soup, but didn't know they used yellow peas in it. I'm just thinking out loud, but isn't that 4950 a little under sized for that grain cart? I mean if it were fully loaded?

Mike, which engine did that combine have in it? It sounded different from the back and right side than it did from the front and left side. What was that fan and air tube on the right side of the head for? Really enjoy you. Have a Happy New Year!
@anthonybanda8192
@anthonybanda8192 3 года назад
The fan is for the air reel on the head. The air bar in the middle of the reel blows air on the cutter bar to help feed the crop in plus it prevents headed loss. The air forces the cut crop farther up onto the head and really works well on low podded soybeans plus you can cut at faster speeds 5to 7 mph . We run air reels on our heads in wheat oats and soybeans.

It's a Cummins. One exhaust pipe, Duetz had 2. Plus that's a 98 or newer machine since it's painted. They stopped putting Duetz in them in 1996, Cummins only after that till the Sisu in 2007 on the 5 series.

How many air cooled Deutz motors do you find still running in these machines? This one sounds like the Cummins. I heard the air cooled Deutz motors just didn't last.

@farmhandmike 3 года назад
Several still running. I was always told keep the cooling fins clean and they'll last a long time.
@hybridssuck
@hybridssuck 3 года назад
This one is painted silver instead of the old galvanized. So it’s a late nineties to 02 year range. It’d only have a Cummins engine, as the early 90s ones that were still galvanized had the Duetz engine option. In a 62 or a 72 the Duetz option was a V8 and one could tell by the dual exhaust as a giveaway during those years.
