I think one of the difficulties with Boruto is that they had to simultaneously build up these new kids from scratch while continuing to push the power scale even higher than it was in Shippuden. I still like it. It's just a problem you run into with any sequel series I think.

They cut out the best part where you see the lower part of Boro's body flop around after the explosion. And they still have handsigns in Boruto; they're frequently used. Kawaki just wasn't a Shinobi at this point.

Handsigns were created by Indra. These are used to form chakra into a jutsu. The thing is anyone can release chakra wihout using handsigns, possibly why there's no need for meticulous handsigning. In Kawaki's case, his body is modified and his blood works like scientific ninja tool, that's why he can shoot power beams without having to do handsigns and he can do it with the karma.

The more powerful and chakra you have the easier it is. Indra created it because some people found it difficult and he saw that this was the easier way to mold chakra.

Boruto's manga is actually pretty solid and with a Lot of good moments (specially on the last arcs we are having). What makes people hate the anime is the amount of "anime-only" episodes...which i can understand,since they dont really do a good job with anime-only episodes,but overall,the series is good (i do recommend reading the manga though)

Ima say that the boruto series suffers primarily due to the severe over abundance of filler Anime Canon non anime Canon whatever, it's not from the manga and 90% of the show are things that aren't in the manga and majority of the time the animation is nothing special and neither are these anime specific arcs. However, I will say, if they made boruto a seasonal show, rather than milking it every week, and just followed the manga, it could be much better, because when it does adapt the manga, it always goes crazy.

They have two or three sakuga episodes every season, though this is definitely one of the best. The Momoshiki fight was probably more impressive though, that had like 40 different top animators on the staff.
