After 10 years in the military, i don't think companies should say they have military grade anything. Most things military grade have major flaws that get covered up because of cost. The really expensive military stuff cannot be replicated by civilians due to the cost. But security wise most things are on there own network not connected to the Internet. I think thats big on security period. Connections to the Internet means someone can connect to your device. Anything can be hacked nowadays including the military. Why do you think they are trying to hire/train hackers to fight hackers. So a closed off system is best if these are your concerns but you lose so much connectivity. Or you could just do sensors all around the house that connects to a app along with off the grid cameras.
Thanks for the update and for confirming the issues that were fixed. I love the Eufy Cameras and I will continue to use them. I have had great customer service response from them and I think they are on the cutting edge of Smart Home Security Solutions and will continue to improve.
The main issue with Eufy - and the reason I returned the entire system - is that only the bottom half of the frame in view is monitored for motion detection. They told me this themselves. For me this meant I would never be notified when someone was walking my path to the front door and I would only be notified when someone was at the back of my car, not when they were walking to it via the drive or at the front of it. My car was parked FACING the road! To combat this they suggested I lower the camera and raise the angle of it. This would have meant the majority of the frame would have been the houses opposite. But worse still it would have meant the camera would have been within arms length of someone standing beneath it! Also their customer support was God awful.
Linus Media Group dropped them as a sponsor until they fixed the issue. Guess what, LTT still won't take them as a sponsor. Eurfy/Ankers response to the situation was minimal at best and does not meet anyone's real life idea of fixing the problem. If LTT won't take them back that means they haven't fixed the issue to a satisfactory conclusion of real techies and people.
A lot of channels dropped them either as a sponsor or stopped recommending them but a lot of that was on the basis that they lied about how secure the product was. Eufy isn't unique in having problems, I'm almost certain every single online security system will have some level of weakness in them that either is ignored or just not found yet. This whole issue though is very much like Tesla, there are the fans of the product that flatly won't accept any criticism of the product at all and there are those that now see the flaws.
@@Byteofgeek They didn’t get dropped for their security problems, they got dropped for lying, specifically about privacy and that your data was local and not in the cloud. Yes as it turns out it was also not secure. So lying and insecure is what got them and that they doubled down and denied it until everyone jumped on them with the evidence. No one has a problem when companies have issues with products. People have a problem (and they should) when companies don’t acknowledge problems and lie to their customers until they revolt. Not a company that I want to do business with.
Nope, like I say in the video I'm not buying any more of their devices. As I'm not sponsored by them I can't do more than that, I've already called them out previously on other security issues waaay before anybody else who was sponsored bothered to do so
I think eufy cameras suffer serious quality issues. I have 5 eufy indoor cameras, and ALL OF THEM developed the same problems. Microphone failure and inability to capture sound as well as inability to format and use the SD cards.
Exactly. Why are there so many stupid videos that don't even discuss WHAT it applies to, and ALTERNATIVES that exist that don't have this problem. Or even who to email to request issues are fast-tracked!? So glad I watch his videos at 2x speed! Waste of time.
Very informative video. I am/was thinking about purchasing a Eufy E340 video doorbell and the Homebase 3 unit. I have been viewing various YT videos about them and have encountered these very concerning and disturbing videos about Eufy/Anker security issues. All of these videos are around 1 year old and I was wondering if all of these issues have been addressed and taken care of so the security of our "Local Storage" is in fact true local storage and not saved or uploaded to the cloud or accessed by others. If not then I'll be looking at the ASOU video doorbell which has local storage as well. Thank you for sharing your valuable information.
FREE TIP: Go to your hardware store and buy a SECURITY TORX tamper proof bit plus some Security Torx screws! It is a Torx head with a hole in the middle. Cannot remove the screw with a phillips head scewdriver!!! Will make it too hard for them to remove!
If you reset the camera the footage stays BUT I've heard if someone connects it to a different homebase then it will completely wipe off of yours. I have no idea if this has been fixed. What a disappointment. Other than these MAJOR flaws the cameras themselves are wonderful with great picture quality and so easy to setup. I really hope these issues are fixed ASAP.
I was seriously thinking about purchasing a Eufy security camera system, but now I’m not sure. It’s very hard to trust a company, or anyone who has flat out lied. I’ll have to further research other systems. Thanks for the heads up.
Great video, and thank you for the follow up - I have a few Eufy cameras and homebase 2. Had no idea of this security flaw until today when I decided to look up some Eufy related stuff on youtube. Any idea of what to do if the Homebase 2 says that the firmware is up to date?
Eufy has been patching and updating everything since the flaws became known. If your homebase says it's up to date then make sure the app is up to date on your mobile device as well, if I remember correctly there were a couple of new options available.
Thanks for your videos regarding Eufy my question is are the Homebase 2 and 2c, 2cpro and dual camera doorbell connected to the Homebase 2 updated and and now secure or is it only the homebase 3 products the only series that got the upgrade?
Just because they have a message when you open a video saying "encrypting"or"decrypting" video doesn't mean they actually are and I'm very skeptical they have changed much.
From Eufy chat on 7/21/23 "Hello. I'm looking at buying the wireless solar powered cameras with a homebase 3 and wireless dual cam doorbell. Would resetting by the camera sync button delete the videos from that camera on the homebase 3? 1:21 PM A yes you are right Agent-Mertie So they would be deleted? A yes the videos would be deleted if you reset the device Agent-Mertie Ok then that defeats the purpose. Thank you for your answer"
I have just spoken directly with Amazon Customer support. They have accepted the return of all 17 products, sd cards, aftermarket brackets, door sensors, room sensors, cameras (three types) etc etc. A bit complicated as they were bought at different times in 2021 but Amazon didn’t argue. Eufy blew it! Now reviewers need to deal with explaining this to potential buyers.
@@Byteofgeek Amazon acted instantly and without question. It took some explaining but there was no quibbling. I am angry and disappointed with Eufy/Anker and I have had to spend hours removing, uninstalling and repackaging all of the sensors, cameras, solar panels, keypad, stickers etc. Fortunately I kept almost all of the boxes and inserts etc for the two years I have had the system. What I want to know, as I live in the EU, is does this breach fall within Data Privacy Laws (GDPR) ?
I'm not a GDPR expert but I do know many people get it wrong in the way they interpret what is covered by GDPR. Theoretically they didn't have a data breach as they were informed of the issues and they patched them before anything malicious happened. However what I find really disappointing is that no legal action has been taken against them, class action lawsuits spring up for far less nowadays but it's oddly quiet with this. Also places such as Amazon continue to sell the products in the knowledge of what has happened. It's like some great coverup has happened 😕
@@Byteofgeek I agree. Amazon are knowingly selling Eufy gear with this issue. I cant imagine how many people have demanded refunds over this. It should be news.
They still have to put some common sense in some of the features of their products: - Account linked devices. If someone steals your doorbell they should't be able to give any use to it. - Standalone alarms. Their alarm on their alarm system is placed on the homebase itself. I don't want to disclose the location of my homebase to the potential theieves. Homebase should be treated like a black box. It can trigger other devices around the house to sound the alarm without giving away it's position.
@ByteOfGeek Could you please clarify. So you still have to re-pare the doorbell to the home-base in order to have access to the footage from your home-base again, correct? if someone steals the doorbell and un-syncs it, you still lose all your footage, correct?
I don't understand why you cannot encrypt the device so that if it is stolen, they cannot reset it without a) entering a complex pasword, b) entering a hash security key, or c) a backed up security key uploaded into the device, or d) logging in to your account online or the app and unpairing it there! I guess what SHOULD be mentioned is the fact they should be installed 2.5m above ground, and not any lower!
Funny,, was just doing research and thought I was going to go with the Eufy 2C Pro package... but this really disappoints me and the fact they didn't do more to apologize means I'm going to have to go with Ring :(
I use multiple ones at the moment as I get to try them out, I'm really impressed with EZVIZ stuff at the moment. There's a couple of reviews on the channel of their cameras.
I bought one eufy camera as an evaluation just a few days ago. It has already been sent back and refunded. Local storage with the option of cloud storage is what I want, so eufy on paper should be good, but if there are trust issues with a company producing security equipment, that company loses my business.
Did u know Eufy cameras can be assigned to several homebases? What genius thought this was a good idea? So someone with a Eufy homebase can sneak up on an external camera from behind, press the 'Sync' button , (because homebases can work without being plugged into a power source) while in the proximity of 1 metre, & they now also have access to that camera. No password, no authentication, no nothing. Why would you require several homebases to connect to one camera? 1 HOMEBASE for several cameras I think is a better idea. Not several homebases for 1 camera. Why would u need several homebases anyway? This happened to me. My driveway camera had a mind of its own. 2 homebases (maybe more, I don't know) can be connected via wifi to 1 camera. WTF. Major security flaw. As long as everyone is in WiFi range, or WiFi extenders.
Anker is pretty much the best example of a typical chinese company. Not doing anything outwardly nefarious at the moment, but making sure their products aren't too secure to not allow for plausible deniability later. They simply do not have the incentive to secure.
I don't think they intentionally lied - probably bad design. They do seem to be taking security more seriously now and fixing a lot of issues, so this whole episode can only have been a good thing and the kick up the proverbial that was needed.
It's quite possible they didn't specifically set out to lie but they did claim something their products have been found not to do. That could have been avoided completely with the right processes in place. You're right they are frantically correcting things and they will come away with a better product for it but they also need to engage with their users more and take concerns seriously, the reset issue I've previously mentioned on the channel is a prime example of this, just ignoring the problem and hoping it will go away is not how you reassure your customers.
@@Byteofgeek 100% agree. The reset problem was bad and should have been addressed much earlier. It's perplexing why companies disregard reported security issues, considering that such a strategy invariably boomerangs when the problem becomes widespread, tarnishing the company's reputation. It would be more advisable for the company to acknowledge these issues promptly and resolve them without delay. This fosters trust in the product and provides reassurance, as you mentioned.
I’m glad I ran into your video. I thought I found the perfect security system in eufy. Local storage. No monthly fees. Encrypted data. 4K camera. Only to find out that they’re all LIES!! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. My search continues.
I have found its not so much the manufacturer of the camera brands fault but in taking extra precautions with your routers security. My Eufy cams always picked up idiots trying tp break into my house but was unaware of a technology than can purposely disrupt & block my access to my cameras. Google 'router Security' & that instantly fixes the problem. It's got to do with stop broadcasting your wIfi network in settings, turn off plug & play etc. Your WIFI cameras are only as secure as your router is. Therefore it should be non discoverable, not called what it is & given a different password to the one on the bottom of your router.
I was very interested in purchasing the newest EUFY S330 and I was shocked to learn about the problems with the lack of security of this “security” system. I have followed your videos and greatly appreciate your opinion. Since early this year I had put this purchase on hold until I had proof that this has problem been corrected. I am definitely back in the game but still unsure of the name EUFY. Do you know if using this S330 system, is there any chance that this could be a problem?
They did release the press release but as far as I'm aware there's not been anything since. They have been patching the mobile app and the website whilst all of this has been going on though.
good information! But it is painful to watch. instead of rambling ,you could convey the same message in 3 to 5 minutes by condensing the material, following a script, and editing out aehm 😉
This as well as other multiple reasons why I want to get rid of the Efuy Doorbell camera that I purchased. I've made several complaints & every time I'm sent an email to go to frequently asked questions. In which this is not solving my security issues. Uuggghhh wish I never purchased.
I've previously had good responses from them whenever I had a problem with the product but when it came to the security issue I got absolutely nowhere with them.
I use multiple ones at the moment as I get to try them out, I'm really impressed with EZVIZ stuff at the moment. There's a couple of reviews on the channel of their cameras.
Any information stored outside of your own home is a security risk. Can you truly trust these companies with your data stored on their servers? No!! I’m going with a professionally installed wired system for my home. All footage is stored on DVR or NVR system. Haven’t decided which. Bottom line, all of my video footage is stored locally. It might cost more, but at least I’m secure knowing that nobody else can view the video footage.
@@kelalamusic9258 l currently have locally stored but moving house and wanted to include security lighting as well but need to find one that’s local only
@@nickdennis4921 I understand. I've been watching a few videos from silverhammer surveillance. The brand that he recommends that will last a very long time and is very hard to damage. I saw one video where a guy took a bat to one of the cameras and was unsuccessful. It's by a company called Alibi. He swears by them. Anyway, he gives good advice.
I just want to find a camera that is as good as these cameras, but does not send your data away and cannot loose recordings if camera is stolen and reset. Any takers on this?? I would greatly appreciate it.
Pretty much every camera of this type is going to need to put some of your data into the cloud unfortunately. Only local only cameras with a DVR are going to be truly local but they may not have all of the features, I think this is the trade off at the moment
To match words and run around the subject to keep listen concentrated.. Would be best to use a short script and not just wing it. If you are not good with writing those just use Bing IA name the facts and points and then ask him to write a short to the point script. You can the always edit it to you're liking.
