Work today just doesn’t reap the same rewards as it did for the past generations and it’s as simple as that. I do still work hard but despite working extremely hard, it’s tough to get on the housing ladder when decades ago you could have easily done the same. The rewards aren’t the same, and so the incentive isn’t there as much. Same goes for redundancies at companies - why sell your soul to a company when they could lay you off at the drop of a hat - no loyalty from their side. The list goes on.

Next topic: should 70 year olds be forced to retire to make room for future generations and innovation? Old ppl are sitting in the top jobs and preventing others from moving up/forward. They also hinder improvement being stuck in the old ways. Maybe productivity has gone down because too many old people are slowing things down and preventing change/improvement.

Come back when you’re 70 when you’ve lost many loved ones and working is your main purpose and reason to wake up in the morning. Until then you should keep your opinions to yourself

Maybe the 70 year old will be able to teach the younger generation, pass on there experience so to speak. Age is just a number, you get the young who can’t do the job!! What is preventing change and improvement is lack of power in government and also lack of experience in the real world. Work hard play hard, be kind a nicer world already!!!!!

Yes, I know what you're saying, and a lot of them are there in very cushy jobs, with quality pay and benefits, that's why they don't want to leave, honestly Janet talking about this is ridiculous, she's got an established career, a world away from some poor unfortunate that has to tske a minimum wage job at that age to survive. Now that's where the difference is.

I'm tired of this nonsense where apparently people that want to work hybrid or remotely are lazy or not working. The best part about COVID was it showed employers that workers can work from home and be productive. Most of us are actually working longer hours but it allows us the flexibility. Yes of course there are those that don't do any work but there are many that do lots of work at home. I find being in the office 2 days a week now is the nice but 1 of those days is so unproductive with people stopping to chat every 2 minutes. 1 day I'm on my own and it's the best .. I'm at the office but it's like being at home .. no one there to disturb me and I can get my work done. I also have no words for this new generation .. they seem to be the laziest generation out there. When I started my working career we worked hard to be recognized .. this new generation wants to work less and have the big salary.

I agree! I worked longer hours at home, get more done I have no distractions and find it less of a headache due to commuting, office gossip etc. I find it funny that people who talk on a show for a few hours (I’ve seen this topic on many a show) can say working from home is lazy! It depends on the job if being in makes sense for the company and staff.

@@merdershewrote371 Exactly ! I get that especially for big cities they need workers to go back to the office cause all the businesses that rely on the workers are struggling. But maybe it's time to re-evaluate the process.

Janet doesn't realize it's also expensive to go to work now. Our salaries are less but everything is expensive.

I don't know why people think doing an office job in an office means you're "working harder" compared to someone doing the exact same job at home. You might be more likely to work longer hours at home because you're not stressed about transport or when to eat your dinner etc.

"soft" work isn't lazy work. It's just different than manual labor.

I don’t think its old fashioned, it’s just that we hear of my people making money in ways which we don’t consider hard or work, so people are sizing up their lifestyles and wondering, what if. The downside though is, these ‘careers’ are short lived. It’s a momentary culture, content creators, and the rest. It has a shelf life. So why not strike while the iron is hot. But you will one day but someone with no qualification to get an actual job.

As a younger person, I don't see the point of working hard when I still can't afford kids, pets or a house. Wages haven't kept up.

1. A surface level comment for a member of this government is something we’ve come to expect, ironic any of them can talk about working hard, productivity or effectiveness. 2. What’s changed? People are being paid the same yet the money doesn’t go as far, a one bed flat where I live (not London) is 1200pcm. Working 40+ hours a week and still having to fret about money is hardly motivating. 2. If you have a job than can be done at home, again why would you be motivated to spend money of fuel, spend time travelling daily and then sit on teams calls in the office?! That’s not productive. 3. As pointed out in this segment, who would want to be in a vital role, nurse, teacher etc and be severely underpaid.

Retire already and mentor. Why not volunteer (is working) and train disadvantaged and support those who are struggling to even get a job.

Anyone complaining about soft working is complaining because they were brought up to be suckers. She literally said "I am programmed to work", that's the whole point we reject your programme and life is much more stress-free if you do.

There will always be people who skiv , whether in the office or WFH. Let’s not pretend that everyone who works in an office is industrious and always has their nose to the grindstone. This “soft working” is very much a generational thing , conceived by a generation of people who want a easy life, where they are always happy, or high, where anything that causes them even the slightest discomfort, or requires actually exerting themselves, is a reason to cry “my mental health” as a way of avoiding to have to deal with lives vicissitudes, whereas other generations simply “stayed calm” and carried on.

52, I have worked since I was 14 and will still be working until I get my state pension so probably 90 😂. I work hard at home and I work hard in the office. You will always get lazy people at home and in the office. Surely it’s down to there managers to recognise this by putting things in place to see what they actually do. 😊I’m lucky I’ve been fit enough to always be able to work 😊

Some of us work in busy hospitals, 13 hours shifts without a toilet break or a break for food. Don’t get wrong, I LOVE my work, but what I would give to put one of those “lazy girl workers” in that environment, and make them realise what the ‘real’ work environment is like, actually serving the community and saving peoples lives. If we chose to work from home, people would be dying.
