LeBron James will soon be entering his 7th season with the Los Angeles Lakers and his run with LA has included many highs and many lows. From winning the NBA Championship in 2020 to missing the playoffs entirely in 2022. Now for most franchises winning one championship would be enough, but this is the Lakers and this is LeBron. So when looking back on LeBron's run with the Lakers so far, has it been a success?

i do think its his worse run given the fact that he had more talent than his first cleveland years while also not being as dominant as then. he has accomplished alot in LA but most of it was because of his longevity rather than how good he is today. thats not to say he isnt good today. he just seems a little more dependent on his squads now than in his earlier times.

I feel like there’s been a degree of revisionist history with LeBron’s Lakers tenure. I remember a serious narrative when he joined the team that he was going to play out his twilight on a rebuilding team, and that his choice to go to LA was a business choice to network and make movies to solidify his post-playing career. To say that with that initial expectation LeBron didn’t meet expectations is obviously incorrect. However, things changed when AD joined, timeframe accelerated and they started competing, and LeBron didn’t age as fast as expected. You could say only winning one ring in five years with AD is disappointing, but again, not a single soul expected a dynasty when LeBron went to the Lakers and a lot of people didn’t expect a championship. Long term lakers fan here and his entire run in short words has been bittersweet. Yes he’s brought us our first championship in years but at the cost of our entire future. The front office will do whatever this man says because he brings in the money and that’s both a positive and a negative. I think after 7 years the front office is finally learning when to say yes and when to say no to Lebron but it’s already to late. Anthony Davis is the Lebron pleasure and that’s the only reason he’s here,once Lebron retires AD will be traded at first opportunity. In my personal opinion I would give back our championship for everything back. Not a total failure, but based on the expectations of the Lakers organization to win championships, I would call it not as good as it could have been. The constant tear down and rebuilding of the roster every time they didn’t win a championship like Rob Pelinka was playing NBA 2K is the thing I consider to be the big thing that messed up the LeLakers
@JustAWeirdDude

I think we can all agree that there could've been more success, but let's look at what they've done: 1. Besides 2019 and 2022, they reached the playoffs every year Lebron has been a Laker 2. They brought in AD to help Lebron, also getting a franchise piece for when Lebron retires. 3. They reached the conference championship twice and has the most hated championship team of all time in 2020 ( I know it was in the bubble but I don't care, it's still a championship where they the best team the entire season). The Russ move, among others, Lebron and AD becoming injury prone, and front office incompetence ruins what could've been one of the best eras in Lakers history.

its not just hated because it was in bubble. its also hated because the whole roster was bought, ring chasers from other teams. most these guys played multiple playoff series vs each other in the past and them teaming up seemed wrong. ex: LBJ, rondo, howard mcgee green etc. AD and lebron colluding together was very unpopular as well and to get taken to 6 games vs a weak/injured 5 seed kinda sucks. In other words it didnt feel organic and they lacked true obstacles

Also, no one ever brings up the 1999 Spurs title where the season was only 50 games and round 1 was best of 3.

LeBron didn’t do himself any favors, by saying "Not 1, not 2... in Miami. People were hoping for more, since he is considered the GOAT. I know Lakers ownership has had some mismanagement and are notoriously cheap, BUT if LeBron had any say on trading away their championship bench, he deseves some of the blame as well. I think they could have contended had they kept that bench. So in that way, the 1 championship would feel even more underwhelming.

As somewhat of an old head, Championships mean way more than they used to way back in the day. There’s a reason Wilt Chamberlain values stats over winning; and his stock has gone down since Championship value has gone up. It especially has in the Lebron James era when media/social media has come way up and the narratives of Lebron having to win a Ring to be considered the GOAT, etc. I believe that it may be a similar thing with the NBA Cup once that starts becoming more of a thing, but not to the same degree. It’s hard to predict what its significance will mean going forward.
