Since we glossed right over it in the video, here's a better explanation of what the 20 magnet ball-core is. In addition to the 8 standard magnets that attract to the corners, this ball-core has 12 magnets in-between the corner magnets that attract to the edge magnets. So when a turn is made, the magnets that attract the corners repel the edges, and the magnets that attract the edges repel the corners. Pretty neat design!
I had a stroke trying to understand what that was. What is the difference of 12 extra magnets on core with the repelling edge magnets in gan 13 because it seems like they achieve the same thing
@@quaff4870Gan 13 just has corner to core and edge magnets of opposite polarity that repel the core magnets mid turn. The super weilong has the same except the extra core magnets are attracted to the edges. So for a turn, the edge passes over the core magnet that attracts the corner magnet and the corner passes over the core mag that attracts the edge, so both magnets repel mid turn both edge and corner piece, and both edges and corners attract/auto align at the end of a turn. Gan 13 just doesn’t have the attracting edge magnets that also repel the corners. Super weilong has double attraction, double repelling
I know I’m going to buy this cube, because… I like it. I’m also a working man with a full time job and disposable income, and I understand most of the cubing community is younger and can’t do that. Do I need it? No. Does anyone? No. But am I glad it exists as an option? Absolutely. I agree it’s overpriced, primarily due to all the excess fluff that is unnecessary, and for that, I’m very disappointed in MoYu. I bought the RS3M Super V2 Maglev, which is also overpriced, but because I thought it was beautiful. I prefer the feel of the ball-core cubes, but I like purple internals, and that cube was maximum purple with the caps and the UV coating makes it probably my most beautiful cube. Which in turn, makes me cube more. I just wanted to point out there are many reasons that people buy cubes, not just purely for performance. Feel and aesthetics are just as important, and a majority of Cubers are casual around the 30-45 second mark (according to Brody the Cubers latest poll data). So vote with your dollars for what you like and want to support in our little niche hobby. I have a feeling MoYu will learn a lot about what worked and what didn’t from their actions this year. We love their cubes, but brand loyalty is also important and they’re endangering that with their latest price gouging.
Moyu is insane. They were making amazing budget cubes with minimal stuff, now they are making the most expensive cubes ever with a bunch of extras. And I don't think moyu is even keeping track of how many cubes they are releasing.
Isn’t new behavior from moyu tbh, they used to do this back in the days of the aolong v2-gts v1. Then they got some good stuff out and slowed down, and now I guess they are back to their shenanigans.
I spent 18 bucks on v5 maglev and I found out the robot is roughly 13 bucks where I am, so they literally just found a way to justify the cost by any means. Don't get me wrong, I love the v5 maglev, but can they put other things that cubers and speed cubers like or need. I'm not a speed cuber I average about 45 seconds and 35 seconds on a good solve but still they need to step back and think about who wants a cube stand watch
Hey guys. Just a request from my side. It would be nice if you guys ranked all the cube(Or Moyu specifically) releases this year at the end of this year. It will be very helpful for me personally for buying. Thank you guys for everything. You guys always put out the best of content.
YS3M Ball-Core FTW ...as an added bonus, the foot if eqch edge piece has a "hole" in the bottome that will fit a 4×2mm N35 magnet oretty much perfectly, so you can do edge-repelling magnets real easy! All you need is a small drip of super-glue in there then add the magnet (just make sure of the correct [repelling] polarity:))
when you oull out an edge oiexez kook at the torpedo (the "foot":)... there is an indention there (slighly oblong, not circular) which almost oerfectly fits a 4mm x 2mm N35 (/N42/48/50/52) disc magnet... the WRM 2021 Maglev has the same toroedoes ... when I did this mod, the magnets very easily fit right in the middle of this spot on each edge's torpedo :D
Great review. Also, if 20 magnet core is really that good, I'm sure we'll see other cubes with this tech. Personally, I'm going to skip this one because I don't want to support Moyu's strategy. Not just the price, but knowing that a significant part of this price comes from the huge box that I don't need, bruh. And I don't want to support releasing cubes every month or so. That's too much. Oh, and giving us a ridiculous watch strap and no regular carrying case? No way.
I will definitely wear the watch strap IRL -- Everyone hating so much on the watch strap, but at least it's a very clear gimmick that you know what you're getting with. In comparison, GAN tries to pass off their gimmicks as if they're useful. From the horrific GES nuts, to the horrible magnetix based magnet adjustment, to claims of tens of thousands of customizations when maybe 20 of them are actually useable.... GAN has always made expensive and bad puzzles, they made a name for themselves on being expensive and that's all. People conflated expensiveness with quality because most cubers are children. So the real difference is that Moyu made a name for themselves off of actually making good puzzles before charging out of the anus for them.
I just got mine and I can say it’s the best cube ever made but simply not worth $100. Cube preferences are normally subjective but I think everybody will agree on this one. Could be wrong though.
Just wait a few months. This is just like the Super Rs3m v2. A cube in the middle which despite being good, is unecessary, with a skyrocketing price. Just wait for the next weilong which wont be more than like 55 bucks.
I was wondering why we can’t add extra magnets in the core that attract the edge magnets but oppose corner magnets and the standard corner core magnets
I wonder if instead of putting visible numbers for the magnet strength, they made each strength a different pitch so your could hear which setting you're on. Maybe a good idea maybe not, just a random thought I had.
So I know that you guys, especially Phil, loved the V9 SE, so much that it definitely got me to need to try it out. The wrm v9 ballcore uv, is the only cube from this year I hadn’t gotten yet until now. Is the super weilong that much better that you recommend the super over the top end v9???
Hey guys, thanks for this amazing video lol. I saw you've opened one of these cubes, but I can't remove a centerpiece (like I do in another cube) without removing a center from the core. Have you found a way to do it without removing the center from the core?
Yeah I can completely ignore this release. Ignoring the price, the box alone just seems so excessive that I absolutely don't want to have that garbage. I see what moyu is trying to do but if people don't buy this cube, maybe they'll get the message that they can't just jack up the price for no reason. I really wish moyu would update their 4x4 and 5x5, give us a ballcore in those things instead of wasting r&d on a stupid bracelet.
So basically, the base version is just a more expensive v9 se , and the maglev is a way too expensive v9 maglev bc . The only version worth buying is 90$. Geez moyu messed up. If the robot was excluded in rs3m v5 , the cost would have been 22$ rather than 25$. This $3 difference matters a lot in non-America countries, especially in India where this difference amounts to the money required to buy 8 loafs of standard bread . Above it all , import duties and thus , moyu and gan will find that their customer base will gradually alienate , especially in the Indian subcontinent . They seem to have lost the rs3m and wrm 2021 touch ,which initially made them so successful
Just NO. Can you please do the Gan 356 Maglev next ? The cube seems really interesting and reasonably priced for the matte version. (And then an "End of 2023 cube tier list" ?)
Nooo. Screws has more option and you can set it evenly, and more evenly, IF THEY WOULD STILL GIVE THE EQUAL TENSIONING TOOLS. But without it, it's still not that hard
The over saturation of cube releases and durability of previous cubes I've owned makes me not want to spend $90 on their product. I've never had a gan cube break on me but had plenty of moyu cubes break. When the ys3m died on me because the ball core magnets popped off I was done. Also $90 for a cube watch strap? Are they freaking high? Lmao
That's weird, gan cubes is the one that is currently famous for breaking or popping easily meanwhile moyu cubes is the one famous for being in the top 3 best cubes known currently. Probably just luck based or maybe bad form of usage?
Kinda embarrassing tbh. Feels like we're back in 2018, when flagship cubes were good (obviously) but came with tons of useless accessories in order to increase the price as much as possible.
No, the WRM was the part of the WeiLong Line. They took the 6th to 9th place, with WRM 19, 20, 21 and the v9, hence the name v9. So the Super Weilong is just basically the WeiLong v10. So no WRM v10 any more
@@balintgalambos691 That's good to be hear/read. Cause I collect the WRM line and I'm glad that super weilong is not a part of that cause I can't afford it even the most basic version
Short answer: Yes. I have no doubt that it‘s a great cube but it‘s a hell no for me. I can’t support their ridiculous antics and pay a lot extra for stuff that will immediately end up in the trash can.
