Has Off-Roading been too much for the DIY Overland Camper Build?

Yeah its easy to sit there and criticize some one elses work but i also think this thing is amazing. An overland trailer like this is 7500 bucks and up and only good for 2 people max. Im lovin this thing

Pull that hobby house behind one of the patriot campers..I say behind because it would be rude to meet a guy then force him to drive over yours as it falls apart.. Its a good looking unit but its not built for exrtreme offroad .Those 15000k's were not with it bouncing 3 feet in the air for 15 hours a day ...That my friend....is overlanding!

Mufaka Jones while I agree it was not 3’ in the air for 15000 miles straight, but it has gotten airborne many, many times!

I was in RV sales in NC then back in UT I was buying fixing and flipping used units but back to your post YES the shit they turnout is just that SHIT. I live in a 2000 Fleetwood Prowler 32' fifth wheel. Thus unit. This is a great unit 0 Problems.

Especially the Mennonite made crap coming out of Indiana.

Night Beard it’s by far my favorite part of the build. I made a build video just for the shower portion and I thought it would go so well on RU-vid but unfortunately it hasn’t taken off at all.

another suggestion is a small step ladder. put in the camper when not in use.

I really want to build an Earth Roamer, I'm just not sure if I have it in me to take on that big of a project or not.

@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 Yah I here you. It pretty much dedicates a truck to camping. I had looked into building a truck camper for some time but I'm not sure it's any advantage over a trailer.

I think those Earth Roamers are waaay too big for real offroad camping. Imagine that in the woods..

I run a motorcycle camper and I was in Sedona, AZ caped in a no services area when the most incredible camper I have ever seen, still. It was a full on Peterbuilt tractor with a full size camper where the sleeper would normally be.. it definitely was a custom built camper. I wish I had taken pictures. The guy who has it, is the CEO of a company that hires and runs hotshot crews and also builds off grid homes and communities.

I was surprised how many people said it would fall apart the first time it went offroad.

Maybe some of the edges people think aren’t held together good enough. Like where the wood is attached together. But he obviously knows what he is doing and it’s very solod

@@steelavocado1 I watched the build video, and I think he used biscuit joiners and gussets throughout. The guy is definitely a craftsman.

Mine too. I'd like one even if I would not use it to its fullest. Also since I don't have the family I would be able to use the interior to make it easier for camping in inclement weather. Why use 1950's technology when much better has come along? Thin aluminum skin glued on a roommate core and thin plywood inner skin sandwich . Especially when curved extremely strong at a fraction of the weight of what he has now. This is how European caravans have been made for the last few decades and they are durable and comfortable..

Patriot Painter exactly! I actually learned this method of construction 20 years ago when I built a sailboat.

With my automotive background.... I am not a fan of things built out of wood. Not even a boat. (I don't even live in a wood house). I just came across this video and I appreciate the layout, the effort, the build and utility, as well as, don't fault anyone that would take this project on and repeat it.... but, ... I wouldn't do it that way. Yet, I've always been that way. I never liked dealing with wood. Give me metal, and I'll shape it however you like. Give me wood and it will be used for heat. Ha.

@@getinit56 I hear ya, but the wood is basically just there to give it shape. The strength and durability come from the fiberglass.

@@PatriotPainter Point taken, but I fail to see long term durability in anything built out of wood. I've seen too many boat floors rot, long before metal rusts. To each there own, but I would of chosen Aluminum. I'm simply just keyboard warrioring my opinion when I'm not currently building anything like this. So, his all of something that I may deem as not as comparable, is much greater than my all of nothing based on the ether of ideas. I did though, own a company in the polymers business and I have got more concerns with his choice of coatings, and thus rot, than I do with the choice of building materials. If any point of that "lineXed" type surface gets fractured, ... and it will (if only by sun alone)..... It will then do more to retain water and destroy it, than it ever would of done to protect it. I've sprayed thousands of gallons of it.

Start with knowledge, be creative about sourcing materials and do the best you can with what you have; then improve as necessary and able. People have more to work with than they give themselves credit for.

(but to be at the Cyber Size ... so for 4 adults and 6 children with merging extension that will merge with the back of the cybertruck to accommodate the extra size but to also have a holder that can hold the extension without the truck there)

Cycle & Moto i would like to weigh it soon, but the plywood doesn’t weigh that much. For instance the 8 sheets I used to build the body would have weighed 440lbs. And that’s before I literally cut off over 20% of it. So that brings it down to conservatively 352lbs for the body for the plywood
