Bubba I'm also a father and have had my child say they hate me, ghost me, etc etc. Being a dad is not easy and it's a long form game and way of life. We as parents make all kinds of stupid mistakes throughout the years with our children. I wasn't the best Dad. As a parent we suppose to mimic Christ the best way possible. Just be there for him when he needs you and give him his space. Don't try to push the issue. Send him a message telling him that you love him and then let go. He'll be back.

Im not much older then Tyler I’m 24. this breaks my heart i can’t imagine being mad at my dad over a girl but bubba you are right sir! Tyler very well may have just been trying to visit him out of guilt but he's a young adult and we all do really dumb shit when we're young. I really truly hope your family finds peace and healing through all of this someday.

Bubba I hope you see this Im 39 and my father and I have gone through a similar situation I didnt talk to him for nearly 2 decadesso as someone who was in Tylers shoes he will come around sometime unfortunately for us it took me having a massive stroke and dying in transit to the hospitalluckily lakeland regional saved my lifeand gave me and my father a 2nd chance to make things right hopefuly it doesnt take a tragedy to bring you guys back togetherI hate myself for how I treated my dad for so long

My deepest condolences to you and your family. It's so tough to lose a parent and you are never prepared. I think you did the right thing. It happened to me when my mother died and my daughter was mad that I didn't tell her about the services. My mom specifically said if she doesn't want to see me when I'm alive, I don't need her at my service. It's damn heartbreaking

Bubba is 100% right!...Tyler should reflect on his actions over the past year...his little girlfriend won't be there in the long run...he needs to realize that family will be there for him, but it's a 2 way street...Tough love is sometimes the best way...maybe Tyler will mature enough to understand this before another tragedy occurs.

Bubba messed up on not letting him go see his papaw. Yeah the dumbass kid should have gone before and he didn't. But all that he will remember and the narrative will be is that Bubba didn't let him see his grandfather on his death bed. And without context or additional information it's true.

And a similar thing happened where my grandpa on my moms side died in that time period. And I still visited him and interacted with my parents at the time but it’s still a regret at how much more time I would’ve had at the end if I wasn’t avoiding my parents as much as possible at the time. It sucks but sometimes we don’t learn until the hard things happen. But I have to say it isn’t my place to judge Bubbas choice but this is going to be a huge hit to their chance to reconcile. Especially if he already has a distorted view of Bubba already that’s being twisted by his girlfriend and her family. If her family manipulates as has been said they’re going to use this as ammo to widen the divide sadly. They’ll pump him up about how he wanted to do the right thing and that Bubba wouldn’t let him and is the bad guy. The call is Bubbas but this is gonna be a huge hit to the chance they reconcile if he has a family pumping his head that he’s right to stay away.

For what it's worth Bubba, you made the right decision by not letting him see his grandpa. Tyler had plenty of times to see him when he was alive and he opted to not see him bc he's mad at you! This goes to show where his maturity is and he needs to live by his "adult" decision! Tough love and he needs to mature a whole lot!!

I agree with this decision... and I'm looking at it from a completely neutral standpoint. We are all God's children and none of us on this earth are perfect. Bubba would be the first to admit that. Hopefully Tyler will set aside his pride and do the right thing by showing up at the funeral. I'd suggest he get a hold of his Dad maybe the day before so it's not so awkward. This relationship will not mend overnight....but you have to start somewhere. I think counseling would be a good idea. With both of you having such busy schedules, It might be a bit challenging but a small commitment of 1 hour a week or so is definitely worth it in my opinion. Tyler - everyone is probably telling you the same thing and that's because we've been there before. To completely throw away your entire family like they are yesterday's trash is just silly. Your master plan is to put all your eggs in one basket? What if you and your girlfriend should break up? Where does that leave you? The truth is you can have love and support from both your family and hers. Not everyone will get along because we all have our own personalities, egos, etc...and remember nobody is perfect.
