Always Board Never Boring has always worked hard to share updates regarding Hasbro's new edition of HeroQuest, which was crowdfunded last year; but today has been particularly taxing for him. He's uploaded this video, and it's already a bit out of date, because news is coming in thick and fast. We have updates regarding backer rewards shipping, updates about the HeroQuest companion app, updates about a retail release, and so much more. There's even a new expansion.
As a result, this video is chopped to bits, and a bit sketchy, and a few pieces of information are omitted. For example, it doesn't mention you can now preorder the game from Hasbro Pulse direct with estimated shipping of THIS YEAR! It also doesn't mention that Zavvi are taking preorders on the core game at £99.99 with a release date of Feb 2022. And let's not get started on how quickly we had to gloss over news about the app to get this video up this evening!

It does look very swish. I've downloaded it and played for a minute or so. I couldn't initially see any reason why it couldn't be used with an original version of HeroQuest (as long as you're using US rules).

I live in Australia. I got my Mythic set a few days ago. I own the original set and expansions yet I couldn't be happier with how this reboot turned out. Guys - if you preordered this set - you **will** be extremely happy with it! Hasbro still included the Dragon miniature and the final questbook even though the campaign didn't hit the stretch targets! The quality of the miniatures, dice, cards and gameboard are of a high premium. A couple cons though... 1. Be mindful and PATIENT when removing the miniatures from the plastic mould they come in though - some have been placed in there way too tight. I didn't break any miniatures, but I can foresee that some people will. 2. The round tape that they used to seal each side of the boxes easily tears at the paint, so you may wish to cut through them with a stanley knife... or have the patience of a Saint and remove them super-gently.

Glad you're happy with it. I spoke about the inserts in a previous video. They look far too tight, and I won't be using them. Tape on boxes can usually be removed very easily by applying gentle heat from a hairdryer. That's how I recommend people get them off.

@@edhart8583 I'm a Sydneysider, yes. What I would do is contact both the EB Games you pre-ordered from and also shoot an email to their helpdesk to find out whats happening. Deliveries have been sketchy because of the world situation and also that we're nearing Christmas season.

From experience EB Games exclusives are usually only exclusives in Australia/NZ, typically these are also listed as exclusives by different companies in other regions, I would expect it to also appear as an exclusive to at least one retailer in the UK and another in the US. It does however, suggest that the core product may be available through other retail channels.

I ordered the knight pack in the UK!!! Sheffield retailer The Outpost managed to secure very limited numbers, and were only including them with bundle preorders of the Core set and the expansions. I'm not sure if that means other retailers might get their hands on some too, but there may be hope!

What is the difference, if any, between those that bought it from Haslab vs. buying it retail? Is it just getting it sooner?

Backers get the core set, Kellar's Keep, and Return of the Witch Lord. These are new editions of stuff that was from the original game back in the day, and all three of those products are going to retail. Backers also received a box of stretch goals. It included two new quest books, a new dragon expansion, three new heroes, alt gender versions of the core game heroes, models for Zargon, Mentor, and Sir Ragnar, and some alternative sculpts of enemies from the core set. Very little of this was advertised as being exclusive - I believe only Zargon, Mentor, and Sir Ragnar had that official tag - but at the moment none of that stuff has gone to retail and we don't know if any of it ever will. My personal suspicion is that the dragon expansion, the extra heroes, and the alter gender heroes will be made available in some form eventually.

I saw a video earlier where they also said they were looking to release all previous expansions that used to be out in addition to thenones ones released in the recent campaign. They also mentioned a very high probability of creating a brand new expansion for release which is brilliant news. Unless they are referring to the knights you have noted. Cheers as always mate. Well we already know Frozen Horror is coming, and I would say Mage of the Mirror is very likely considering the content of the promo video. Ogre Horde and Wizards of Morcar need to be completely retooled for the US rules, but I doubt they would pass the opportunity to do it as they know the demand for those expansions is there.

Well Frozen Horror is a dead cert, and I would say the video they shared makes Elf Quest very likely. Against the Ogre Horde and Wizards of Morcar were European, so would need retooling for the US rules, but they would be silly not to lean into that and remake those too. They just might take a little longer.

The Knights are not exclusive to EB games? I own an FLGS in the UK, and every store will have access to a handful of them, so they will be hard to get.

Forbidden Planet have it preorder for £99.99. That's fairly steep but not really over the top for a big box game, Cursed City was £125 rrp after all. This, however, does not appear to be dead on arrival and seems very well supported at the moment! I might need to get some of my old gear on ebay and give this a go.

THIS IS AWESOME NEWS! I am so happy that it's gonna be going to retail. I wonder what changed their mind after I ask directly back in January and they said no. Well, who cares now, it's coming back! My only personal disappointment is that I found someone who was selling a classic HQ in the spring and I bought it (yay) but the new HQ is slightly larger in size, so the new stuff won't quite hit on the old stuff. So... what to do. Well, let's get to retail first and I'll sort it out later.

Hasbro have been playing this close to their chests because of various negotiations going on. That sort of stuff has to go on behind closed doors and they can't confirm anything until it's all resolved. It's no coincidence they confirm a retail release the same day they send out a notice they will be selling in Europe having resolved rights disputes with Game Zone (that's a topic for another video).

I wouldn't really expect a bundle deal, but once it's in general release and available from lots of stores, it should be possible to get better deals on the pricing, rather than paying the preorder prices.

I actually should have mentioned that on Friday November 5th I have gotten my heroquest mythic tier. It was mostly good with some bented miniatures. I fixed them as best as I could with the hot and cold water technique without do it too much. I am new to the technique. Sorry about that

It took a bit of effort to get to the Play Store link for the App, I picked UK, and the associated blog post would not appear, but when I switched to US, the blog did appear, and the link presented, and then I have bumped into what must be a geographic lock-out as it says "This app is not available for any of your devices", a rather surprising response to a brand new contemporary phone.

The Geographic lock-out has finally cleared for Australia. 'Tis a hefty download for the App. Just started the first quest, without board, and it looks pretty good. As it has been so many years since I last ran HeroQuest, I am looking forward to using the App to replay the Quest book, and try out this App as intended, with my original set.

Hasbro dropped more big news today. They had a joint announcement with Gamezone/Ludophilia. The game Heroquest 25th anniversary has been renamed Tseuquest and will be shipped to backers early 2022.

If the app is backwards compatible with the original game, and free, that is a HUGE gift for old school players like myself! I played a good amount of the old HeroQuest Ye Old Inn Game Master app but stopped after a while when I ran into too many bugs.

It is free. I've downloaded it and it looks really good. At the moment it has all the core missions, but they are going to add Kellar's Keep and Witch Lord soon. While tinkering with it, I've seen no reason it wouldn't work with an old edition of the game, as long as you are playing with the US rules rather than the European rules.

Companion app means I’m now sold. Always prefer games like Mansions of Madness 2nd Ed where there’s an AI overlord/Dungeon Master. Some games do it in other ways with AI/ Enemy behaviour cards etc. Hopefully I can get a copy. Is the app out? I couldn’t find it.

I remember the "Kickstarter" Hasbro did back then. AND I'm still really upset that it was not accessible for people from Europe. Honestly upset. The only thing that could appease me and all the people I have spoken to would be if Hasbro/AH made all the stuff from the mythic tear available in retail in Europe. If it will not be it might come down to many fans becoming former fans. I really hope we will be able to buy the complete stuff, and yes I know it will cost us. The restriction to the North American customers has made many upset but we are still fans. Might change thou...

It was an unfortunate situation. They made it available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, but the trademark issues seemed to ensure Europe was off the cards at that time. Now all the trademark issues are resolved we will have to see what their plans are. Most of the stretch goals from the crowdfunding campaign weren't listed as being exclusive, so there's still a chance the extra heroes and missions could be made available. Additionally, the few things that were exclusive like the Sir Ragnar miniature could be resculpted and made available in another way. Many of the stretch goals were just different sculpts of existing monsters from the core game.

Damn it. I missed out on the crowd funding for this because I didn't know they were doing it. I waited hoping they would release to retail then finally bit the bullet and paid through the nose to buy the mythic set on the secondary market thinking better now then later when the price will become unreachable to get it. Now I find out just two days after forking out 4 times the amount of money for it they will not only be releasing to retail after all but they will also be releasing the expansion packs to retail. Ahhhhhh! Frustration. Congrats to the guy I bought it off, you made a killing off me. Can't be cross with the seller, knew what I was doing. Just angry they never advertised this around the world like they should have. By the way, years ago I did back the 25th anniversary Heroquest which turned out to be a loss but now I hear they are still going to release it to us backers under a different name. That's something I suppose.

I can’t begin to express how EXCITED I am to give my old 90’s addition an update with the companion App & with the 2 expansions coming soon, I need to download the tiles & cards ready for the realise. For me moving forward I’m hoping to use proxy models available on Etsy or invest in 3D printer for any new content they release & photo shop/reduce the tile size as people post pictures online. Good times ahead for the HQ community.

Oh crap... looks like I'd best sell a kidney for when this comes out. I may just splurge. I'll have a look at the app might tip me more over the edge of committing to the purchase. Finally I agree on the whole region exclusive set. Really bad move and will just add to my pile of I'll never own this because of regional exclusivity. Which at the moment is proud home to the Labyrinth of the Necrons trio of expansions. I did manage to pick up a copy of the board and card contents for a tenner the other month so can plan Mega Labyrinth.

I'll be honest, my interest in this product is really in the reissues of the original content, so from everything currently available only the core set, Kellar's Keep and Witch Lord are of interest to me. Some people are saying the knight may not be as exclusive as EB Games make it sound, and Hasbro are pushing it on the Twitter feed which is a good sign it might be more readily available than it currently seems. We shall see.

Also The Outpost in Sheffield put up pre-orders inc the Knights expansion. I'm waiting to see what the Christmas boxes from GW are on Thu before I decide if I'll buy or not.

Really hating exclusives. Hasbro really needs to make this available to everyone. Already sold out at eb games scalpers are going to have a good old time reselling them.

That expansion has already started to show up at US retailers, so it doesn't appear to be all that exclusive. Hopefully they will get more at EB Games as well. It's not exactly clear what they are up to with that right now.

Hi, there's a couple of things to note here. One was that they couldn't crowdfund in Europe at the time, as there were trademark disputes to resolve, but now that's resolved they will be catering for Europe too. The game will be at retail. Also, there are some crowdfunding extras that I don't believe were ever stated as being exclusive. We are yet to see what the plans are, but there is a chance the stretch goal heroes and the dragon expansion will go to retail too. The rest of the stretch goals were pretty much just alternative versions of miniatures that already come in the core game, so not something it will hurt too much to miss out on. Nothing is certain yet, but I would keep watching for news to see how things develop.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I hunt Hero Quest for more than a decade. That bugs me. I do mind that I don't get my hands on alternative Versions. I love that I can alternate. Well, I can't do much except wait and hate this Situation. I have read the Copyright Problem. The Situation is, from what I found more superficial and it is more likely that they just didn't ask anyway. Crowdfunding was never planned to be used internationally.

The trademark situation was definitely more complex than that. They offered crowdfunding to multiple countries, but needed to secure the name in certain territories. Once they did that they made it clear the game would get a wider distribution. Hasbro love their money; I am sure they would offer it everywhere they could. I hope you will eventually be happy with whatever you are able to get.

Obviously I love HeroQuest, but I'm putting together a video at the moment about the new hero, and I'm really not sure the heroes are different enough to make single character packs that appealing. Variety is good, but there's only so much of that baked into HeroQuest's system.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Some people would say that a simple system let's you add on complexity without cluttering things up. But the dice mechanics are pretty well maxed out by the end of any on of the quest books. Maybe they have a set of expanded rules in mind with a leveling system and such. A Roleplay book, so to speak.
