This hike takes us from the baroque city of Solothurn past the St. Ursen Cathedral towards the Verenaschlucht (Verena Gorge) and the local hermitage. From here, we scale the cliffs towering the city up to Weissenstein and over to Hasenmatt.
On the way down, we pass by ancient remains from a far gone time, watching Dinosaur tracks in a local quarry near Lommiswil.
The hike is about 24km long and the altitude gain is about 1000m. Hiking through the old city and the gorge will be great initial highlights during the trip.
The view from the plateau to the Swiss midlands and to the alps with the iconic Eiger mountain, next to Jungrau and Mönch is simply stunning.
Our trail is a combination of the following trails:
From Solothurn to the Plateau south of Weissenstein: www.outdooract...
From here, follow the signs to Hasenmatt when you reach the gondolas.
At some point, you will merge with the route www.alltrails.... that you can now reverse to return to Lommiswill.
