Hashtbehesht Palace - which was once called the most beautiful palace in the world - was built in 1080 AH during the time of Shah Suleiman Safavid in the middle of "Bagh Bulbul". The first school of the Qajar period in Isfahan is the Hashtbehesht Palace, which was known as the Homayuni School.[2][3]
The vast garden in which the mansion is located was a part of the great garden of Naqsh Jahan, which was built by Shah Ismail I and was divided into several parts during the time of his successors, especially Shah Abbas I. Hasht Behesht Garden existed during the time of Shah Safi, and during the period of two subsequent kings, namely Shah Abbas II and Shah Suleiman, they added trees to this beautiful garden. It is necessary to mention that the Kushk Bagh belongs to the time of Shah Suleiman Safavid, during which the garden was completed and improved and in 1080 AH. It was completed in the third year of the Safavid Shah Suleiman's reign, and according to some historians, this garden was the residence of the eight corners of the king's shrine, where 4 people lived on the ground floor and 4 people lived on the first floor.[4]
This two-story building with beautiful arches and many decorations is considered one of the brilliant examples of Safavid era architecture. This palace has been called "Eight Behesht" and "Eight in Heaven" since the beginning of its construction.
کاخ هشت‌بهشت - که روزگاری زیباترین کاخ عالم هم نامیده می‌شد - در سال ۱۰۸۰ هجری و به روزگار شاه سلیمان صفوی در میان «باغ بلبل» ساخته شد. نخستین مدرسه دوره قاجار در اصفهان کاخ هشت‌بهشت است که به نام مدرسه همایونی شناخته می‌شد.[۲][۳]
باغ وسیعی که عمارت در آن واقع شده جزئی از باغ بزرگ نقش جهان بوده‌است که شاه اسماعیل اول احداث کرد و در زمان جانشینان او به‌خصوص شاه عباس اول به قطعات متعددی تقسیم شد. باغ هشت بهشت در زمان شاه صفی وجود داشته‌است و در دوره دو شاه بعدی یعنی شاه عباس دوم و شاه سلیمان بر درختان این باغ زیبا افزودند. لازم است ذکر شود کوشک باغ متعلق به زمان شاه سلیمان صفوی می‌باشد که در آن دوره باغ تکمیل و اصلاح گردید و در سال ۱۰۸۰ هـ. ق که با سومین سال سلطنت شاه سلیمان صفوی مقارن بود، به اتمام رسید و به گفته برخی تاریخدانان این باغ نشیمن هشت سوگلی حرم پادشاه بوده‌است، که ۴ نفر در طبقه همکف و ۴ نفر دیگر در طبقه اول سکنی گزیده بودند.[۴]
این بنای دو طبقه با طاقهای زیبا و تزئینات فراوان یکی از نمونه‌های درخشان معماری عصر صفویه به‌شمار می‌رود. این قصر از همان ابتدای احداث «کاخ هشت بهشت» «هشت به هشت» و «هشت در بهشت» نامیده می‌شده‌است.
