The Hasselblad 500cm might be my favorite camera to use. I wanted to see If I could more closely replicate that experience on digital and this is an amazing option.

Hi Ben! Super cute setup. I was wondering if the 35mm full frame lens on the Hasselblad sensor in question follows the same crop factor of 0.79?

It does. As long as the lens covers the 44x33mm medium format sensor, it will always be a 0.79 crop. I use Zeiss Sonnar 50mm 1.5 and a lot of FF lens, like Contax 50mm 1.4, Contax 35mm 1.4, Helios 44... I just got a Metabones 0.71 for Hasselblad lenses, but I don't have any Hass lenses for now... That will get to a crop of 0.56 :)

Awesome setup! I'd love to try an adapter for f mount but they're so expensive! Buying the 907 nearly killed me, I'm a student lol, couldn't afford it yet did it anyway. I use the back solely on my 500cm, and never actually touched the 907x. A dream to use.

I use a Contax 35mm 1.4 on a GFX 100S. Works fine for portraits

The more movement the more issues you’ll find. I’d just generally not want to rely on it for any movement

The 35G will be super soft due to field curvature on the edges of the 33x44 sensor. Even on a full frame digital sensor it falls apart severely off-axis being a symmetric wide angle designed for film. It's pretty as an object but as a tool this is not very practical. Don't get me wrong this is very pretty, but an M10R with the 35G (or better yet 45G) will run circles around it for less money with better carry-ability, looks and experience.

The contax g35 is a planar design. You mention that it may be a biogon. The planar was loosely based off the mandler summicron. It’s one of zeiss newest formulas and happens to be the same formula of the planar 80mm which happens to be one of the best lenses for the hasselblad.

Yep, it works fine there as well. Just found the waist level experience not to be as ideal for that crop, but it’s all about the perspective you want.

the G35 is a Planar, there were only 2 35mm Planars that Zeiss ever made, they are legendary, didn't expected you said "it's a biogon or something like that"..

With the sensor not being square, to take a full frame portrait you would need to rotate the camera 90 degrees hmmm surely a bit awkward for composing…….

I don't get it. You take a G mount zeiss, convert it to M mount in order to mount on Hasselblad using a converter. OK, now you have a setup without shutter that gets you a rolling shutter effect that looks awful, plus huge vignetting. I hope that the feel worth it

I mean, the primary use would be for Leica M. It’s more for the experience than it being a 100% useful kit for most things ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@benjhaisch Fair enough, but you still could use the back with the original slr camera , since the back is really THE digital camera. I'm sorry but you are reviewing a system camera without reviewing the intended system. It seem incomplete. Since you have cared to mention the V system in the title, you could at least elaborate on it in the vid, right?

I actually had hopes of doing both but I let my uncle who is the original owner of my 500cm borrow it and haven’t gotten it back yet. My original title was “Reimagining the Hasselblad 500cm as a modern digital camera” but that title just doesn’t work in the confines of how RU-vid pulls info.

I very much enjoy your channel and your videos, even if I have complaints about this one. Here's me hoping, that you will make a review on the Hassie V system as a complete line in the future (especially any possible instant backs) since it definitely deserves one. Please stay true to yourself, and the style of your vids, since no advertiser or sponsor can replace that! It can only detract from your content.
