Hasselblad is a world and a moon known excellent medium format camera system. In this movie-film, I go through some of the quirks and features of a Hasselblad 500, show how to mess it up, and finally give a word of warning. Somewhere, in between, we take a look at a few pictures and listen to the Swedish national anthem.

A close friend gave my his Hasselblad 500 C/M, with 2 A-12 film backs, 80mm Planar lens, standard flip-up viewfinder hood, a 45 degree prism viewfinder, Pentax 1degree spot meter, 2 extension tubes and a bunch of other bits. I don't take it out often but it is a joy to use when I do. I have a roll of Ektachrome 100 in it right now. I really enjoyed your presentation and your humor. Keep up the good work.

I think it is crucial to realise that the Hasselblad V system that you are talking about is a universe away from the new Hasselblad which is owned by the same Chinese company that owns DJI. I just don't feel anything for the new Hasselblad, sadly. I have. 500 CM from the early 80s, and a 553ELX and a few lenses, everything apart from the 40mm. A few years ago I had the opportunity to buy an SWC M at a very good price, but I didn't. A decision that I regret to this date. Those original V system cameras are truly a work of art.

I always vacillate between the blad and the mamiya rb67. I shoot large format so the 6x7 size is more appealing to me. Yet the blad is so beautiful and lightweight!

I've owned by Blad 501CM since 2012. I love it. But in all those years I never realised the two little notches on the negatives were caused by the film backs! Thanks for that...great little snippet of knowledge.

:-) Yeah, and as I said, you can easily make little markings on the side say with a knife, and then know which back was used

It was Victor Hasselblad's own idea. If you look, it looks like an V.

Actually.............. Being someone that's repaired one or two Hasselblad's..... That "Empty box" Has a lot going on within those thin walls!! So give that 'box' a little more credit ;-)

Hello again! Nice again! But it was the Hasselblad's founder's son Victor that started up making cameras called Ross (after his dogs) They started made cameras to use to make aeroplane fly photos. After wwII Victor wanted to make a civil Camera. Mostly to photograph birds (a Great interest) And he was clear from the start with to make a modular camera. And The rest is history..

I like the subtle Swedish songs. You have the two lenses I want for my Hasselblad but the prices are quite insane
@ShootOnFilm
@ShootOnFilm 3 года назад
Thanks :-). Yeah, those prices are already crazy. They convert Hasselblad lenses for cinema and movie cameras, so that takes a lot of them out of the market cranking the market up. Unfortunately.

Hello, Great review! I've never even had a Hasselblad in my hand. At the end of the 1980s, I bought a Kiev 88 to equip our ergonomics workshop at the Design Institute for research projects, but I suppose it's a comparison between Porshe and a tractor. Before I implemented it, I quit this job and set up my own studio, which had to complete the equipment almost from scratch. There was no room for the medium SLR format, because it was too expensive for me back then, but there is still a 6x6 enlarger.

Kiev 88 is an interesting camera -- if you have the patience..

Ok you have me guessing but maybe Hohner Pianet or maybe Wurlitzer 200? The attack doesnt quite match a Pianet but maybe the hammers have aged and softened. . . . as always I look forward to your soundtracks. I love my 503CW but alas, my vision is failing and finding it increasingly difficult to nail the fine focus. Sad to admit but beginning to think that perhaps its time to trade in my Hassy V system for a gently used H so I can continue to feed my habit. Dont tell MY wife!

I understand the passion. I was out exercising my Hasselblad today. Oh! I also bought my fourth lens today, I wanted this for a long time, a beautiful Carl Zeiss Sonnar 250mm F 5.6, I got a great deal but...I haven't figured out a way to explain this to my wife yet...;)
@ShootOnFilm
@ShootOnFilm 3 года назад
:-). You gotta think about your strategy. A few suggestions: stick to either black or chrome in all your lenses and trust she won’t be able to see the difference. Or tell her that if you buy a lens today it will be worth more tomorrow. The latter one is actually true.

P. S. Back in 1978 I going to buy my first advanced camera after Instamatic and a pocket (110). I choosed between the Nikon FE and a Hasselblad 500 c/m with Planar 80/2.8 and magazine A12. At that time, the cost was the same +/- 100 SEK. I choosed the Nikon, mostly because it had a built-in exposure meter. I regret that today...

No doubt, Hasselblad is an Iconic Camera, if I may ask you, does the Kiev viewfinder help in getting easier focusing? I found one in very reasonable price at eBay. Thank you.

I was gifted a 500c and 80mm lens and film back by a dear friend. I told my wife and she was thrilled for me. However, I didn't tell her about the 50mm, the 150mm, the 250mm prism finder or the 2additional I have since added. Why ruin her joy?!!

How low can you get your shutter speed when shooting the Hasselblad handheld while still getting good shots? Do you have any good techniques? Might be a good subject for a video!
@ShootOnFilm
@ShootOnFilm 3 года назад
Good idea. Let me think abut it. 1/60 for sure. 1/30 If the conditions are right. And you sqeeze, not push :-)
@nukepity9266

@@ShootOnFilm same here: 1/60 for sure, 1/30 sometimes. But that's without a strap, and I think people are getting much lower using a strap while exhaling slowly
