I'm not sure why you would want to release the battery and reinsert it to check the battery level when all you need to do is lightly press the on/off button when the camera is switched off.
I just recently completed the firmware update successfully using Hasselblad's supplied USB-C 3 cable to copy the 1.0.5 camera firmware from my PacBook Pro to the X2D 100's internal memory, and it worked flawlessly. (I do not yet even own a CF Express Type B card). An issue you might have run into here in your attempt in filming this video, is that you have to be sure there is no CF Express card in the camera the entire time that you do it this way. I believe if there is a card present, the camera only looks there for a firmware file, it does not also check the internal memory. When there is no card present, it reads the always present internal memory, and find does the firmware file and updates exactly as expected. I also updated the firmware of my 90mm XCD lens using the USB-C cable to copy that file to the camera's internal memory, and that worked without issue as well. I noticed that the owner's manual does not specifically warn you about this, but it seems to be a likely reason that I had no problems of the type you illustrate here.
Thanks guys, my X2D just completely refused to accept the firmware upgrade file on the SSD, I tried three times. But it seems to depend on the unit you got. Hasselblad in the notes on the firmware upgrade to version 1.0.5 speaks about "some users" ... I seem to be one of them. With the card in the way I showed it finally worked but glad to hear that not all users had these hassles.
@@RamonVaqueroImage I hope it will work for me as well from the ssd once the camera arrives… it it may have the new firmware installed by the factory ideally 😅
Hi Math, As you well know there are hundreds of settings you can change on the X2D. Have you ever made a video explaining all these possible settings along with your recommendations for setting up your new camera, would be a lot of work but very useful to new owners.
Hello, Great video. If them firm ware is older than the second to last update… do you need to upload both of the newest firmware or just the latest one? Thank you!
Thanks Olaf, it depends on the unit you got. On my unit it really did not work but there might be other units where it works. With the new firmware and from now on it will work on all up-to-date units.
Correct - thanks for pointing out, I should have mentioned that. I use my method when swapping batteries but if you don't swap and just want to check the level of the battery inside, then your method is the better one.
I followed HB 100% and it worked just fine. I guess HB knows what they are talking about. I used the USB C cable from another camera without a problem to xfer the update from my Linux box to the X2D.
I got x2d and succesfully upgraded firmware from 1.0.0 to 1.1.0 using only internal storage ssd. just copied firmware to root folder, selected search for firmware and then proceed to update -- all ok update started no problems! may be you have corrupted file somehow?
Maybe there is something going on with Phocus-which I don't use. I was successful without a CFE card by simply downloading the file to my Mac mini and transferred the file to the X2D solid state drive via the USB cable, and the upgrade worked just fine. Hope this helps!
Fact is that the way I showed via CFexpress works for all units. That's why I recommended only one way. From Firmware 1.0.5 on it should also work via SSD.
Thank you for this very informative video on how to update the firmware. I received my X2D100c lightweight portrait set this week and with your instructions i was able to succesfully update the firmware on the X2d100c and the 45P lens. This camera is incredible. I do have one question and maybe you can awnser that. Is there a way to close the aperture to the working value to see the change in depth of field. On all my analog camera's including my CM501 i can close the aperture from full opening to the value at wich it is set so i can see the difference in depth of field from the set value compared to the full opening. Until now i have not been able to find the button or option to do this on the X2D. ALso i have not red this in the manual that i downloaded from the Hasselblad website. Kind regards Gerard de Vrueh
Yes Gerard, there is a setting. In my recent video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bH0lRChKKSg.html you find a detailed tutorial how to customize buttons. Now let's say you want your DoF-Preview to be on the bottom front button. Then you go in the menu to "custom buttons" under "settings" and choose the button in the first line of options and select in the menu you get when tapping on it "DoF Preview". Then, whenever you push the bottom front button, the effect of your working aperture is shown in live view.
@@mathphotographer thank you very much for this awnser👍 there are so manny options and sometimes they are at a place in the menu that is not logical to me. I have of course taken images with the camera and i am super impressed with the 80 mm 1.9. The sharpness at full opening is really impressive. Thanks for all your in depth video's they are of great help 👍👍👍
The new X2D does not have a Remote Cable capability. The only way is to use your iPad/iPhone for remote shutter release. How are you liking it? I think that is a big mistake on Hasselblad. They should come out with a USBC remote cable.
Agreed. But perhaps there already is a remote cable capability via the USB-C port only no one has yet been brave enough to connect up a release button. Remember when the X1D first came out there was no remote capability until some guy did some experimenting. A few months later Hasselblad came out with a remote release cable. Fancy an experiment?
Thanks! Currently Hasselblad is still working on getting the XCD90V to market, was announced months back and is still not available. But I could image that they bring a new standard zoom in the next couple of years, let's see. Greetings to sunny Mexico, you guys are privileged not freezing like we do here in Switzerland :)
i couldnt as well, that if you mean internal ssd. I had to use the cf type B. i suspect it may be something with macos ventura. Saw an issue with another program and they recommended not using ventura. Something with m1or ventura(or may be older versions too) may be the culprit.
Are you going to do a part 2 on setting up the Leica D-lux 7 I own .I have not found the best set up yet. Starts taking photos when I touch the back screen.
Hi @mathphotographer, can I get your opinion on X2D vs H6D-100c? Does the image quality from X2D live up to the H6D? I understand sensor size differences will, or should play a role.
I will work on a video comparing the two cameras in Q2-2023. But what I can tell you already is that the only real advantage of the H6D-100c besides sensor size is a feature called "True Focus" which enables the H6D to focus with the center, recompose the scene and focus will be automatically calculated to stay sharp on the original focus point based on the camera's sensors. I still hope this feature also comes with a firmware upgrade to the X2D and then the X2D comes really close to the H6D and has a much lower price tag.
I bought this camera. I wish it had two features, Histogram in live few (no brainer) but it doesnt have it. you only see it AFTER you take a shot ;( and B&W preview. other than that its great
I hope so, there are some rumors. But its not for granted and if you need eye tracking in autofocus and have not yet bought the camera wait before you spend so much money until Hasselblad issues new firmware or at least promises to do so.
@@mathphotographer ya,was a bit confusing.Y said I uploaded the card AND NOW I PUT IT BACK IN MY X2D .It was already inside the camera ,right.....That made me buy a card reader$$$$.regards.But anyway ,the firmware is in🏁. hai,I be so free ,Question; how to check or the two cam motors of my xcd80 lens are working properly ,The sound is irregular and likes to stutter a bit on the end/begin focus.not permanent, but its there.Only 495 clicks.regards.
Hai, just to be clear, After upgrade firmware, the firmware is IN the camera and y can safely take out the CF card, has no interference, right? Regards.Just found out after the 3 lens updates of the xcd 80 its running smoother,Happy again.Regards.
They did, even newer firmware came some time after I posted this video. The newest version incorporates a stable connection with Phocus Mobile 2, finally!
Still no cable or remote release and no support for the X1D GPS adapter? I know that the idea is to help DJI recover the money invested in Hasselblad, but this way of doing it is destroying whatever little is left of the brand and could misfire terribly.
Its a bit frustrating, yes. Hasselblad is a small company and it seems that things take a while. I am still waiting for my new XCD 90v lens ... patience is what we need.
@@mathphotographer Def slow, but the craftsmanship and diligence that I have noticed with their team is pointing in the right direction. I'm sure this DJI buy out changed a lot of how they operate and still finding ways to become more efficient. Seems like most companies are still dealing with backorder of almost any piece of tech. Car companies having production delays as well ever since 2020.
It always gets better and more mature over time ... Hasselblad is not the only brand who uses firmware upgrades to make a camera more mature. But its tedious to always wait for these upgrades, I share the pain :)
HI.. Thanks for your reviews on HB camera.. Can you compare HB X2D with Leica Q3 in terms of AF, DR, sharpness and color rendition in Landscape? How can I get your email ?
