A really wonderful video showing the very best of Hastings Old Town. I grew up here - you showed my childhood home - and have lived here all my life, 60+ years, and you've really captured the spirit of it. And well done for finding so many 'twittens' (local name for the small passages and alleyways) that even local people haven't explored.
Have u been to all saints st it the poshs st in hospital snd its got 5 star pubs the last one in the last one out is ace star pub do good food as well I.ike the open fire in the middle of the room
I absolutely love Hastings. My Mum lived in the old town for years, up until 2013 when she had to move back to the Midlands for health reasons. I used to love visiting her, we made so many great friends there. My sister and then i moved there in 95 for a couple of years. I loved the pubs in the old town, especially the Adelaide. The pram race, was also great fun. I’ve not been back for 10 years. Thanks for the beautiful video, it bought back so many fond memories ❤
Thank you for your kind feedback and the story you shared! I am so happy that this video brought good memories to you! Next time we will be there, we will be sure to visit Adelaide pub!
@@mikebogatyrev3058 You’re welcome 😊 Unfortunately the Queen Adelaide closed down a few years ago, it’s been renovated into a cottage. It was a proper spit and sawdust pub, you could get a pint in there at 4am if you knocked the back door. I look forward to watching more of your videos ❤️
Please explain to me why this couple are not on mainstream television presenting travel vlogs ? Another enchanting, interesting and magical video, featuring my favourite English Seaside town. Thank you to you both. All my very best Kev
Thank you Kev! It's because of your recommendation that we've visited Hastings! We were absolutely blown away by this town! It really is a gem or culture and architecture! Now its one of our favourite seaside towns to visit!
Hasting old town is a testament, to the owners of those unique houses, and shops, the cost of maintaining this living museum, must be a constant drain on there resources, and may they long continue to love there OLD Town HASTINGS SUSSEX. WELL presented video, and I'm sure it will be of use, for future historical reference, thank you 😊😊
Hi. Excellent video. Beautifully filmed. I was born in Hastings; though I only actually lived there in my twenties. I am nearly 71 now. Hastings was a bit of a dump in those days, not a good reputation. It has much improved over the years. But of course, these streets and houses of the old town were always there to be appreciated. I do not live in England now, so this was a nostalgic trip for me. I will be viewing more of your videos.
Loved exploring Old Hastings with you, guys! Hastings is a well-kept town with rich traditions and culture. Thank you for your guidance! The choice of music is superb!
Thank you Zina! This town is amazing: the more we come back to it, the more it opens up to us. All the tiny details, places to eat and of course the wonderful rock-a-nore beach! We even saw Samovar in one of the antique shops!
An excellent reportage video that has the advantage of showing all aspects of this beautiful city, and not just what can be found everywhere else. I am a French journalist living in Normandy, and before this horrible Covid I used to come to Hastings practically once a month, I miss it a lot.
I love this visit to Hastings. This is one of my favourite videos, I have watched it again and again. You have a very soft and calming voice which gives added pleasure to the beautiful views. I have a particular interest in Hastings. Thank you.
For anyone who'd like to visit Hastings with EF, STS etc I can really recommend it. A great place to improve your English. Hastings was my first home and I was also a language student here in 96/97 and I'm now residing in Suffolk and hoping to retire in Hastings
I've never been to hastings , I used to spend a week in the summer in Eastbourne visiting my auntie Hastings looks so nice I'm going to visit at the weekend 😊
Incredible to watch 👍👍👍 amazing video with lots of useful information, attention to details 🙌 I would like to visit it now as it looks very welcoming 🤗
Thank you Anna! I must say that this town has so many hidden places which are incredibly beautiful and the nearby town of St Leonard’s is also amazing: it’s a bit like Brighton but with a different twist to it :)
@@mikebogatyrev3058 wow so much useful information 🙌Never heard about St Leonard’s town before - worth to investigate 🔬 to understand better the similarities with Brighton 😁 By the way is funicular still working at Hastings or was closed before of Covid?
@@annaanglia I am not sure about funicular but the caves were open for the visitors. I mentioned them briefly but what I didn’t talk about is there was an ancient carving of a pagan deity found in the caves. It predates everything that we know of and nobody is quite sure of what this carving is. It was always there. We didn’t film in the caves as it was way too dark for our phones to capture it. But it really is breathtaking to see that the hill where the castle is is full of secret passages under ground
Great video with a good choice of shots and angles. The thoughtful commentary adds to the atmosphere of the occasion of your visit! Thanks for uploading.
Loved every bit of it, the images, pace, music, explanations, your voice and the attention to the different houses, and fishermen net buildings, awesome, thank you so much for taking me there
Beautiful upload, great presentation from you, very historical and lovely town. I love it. I would love to visit there one day. Thanks for sharing this. I wish you all the best dear. Have a wonderful time and see you soon again.
BIN TO HASTINGS BIN GOOD 😉 Hi, Mike, thank you for the video. I came back from Hastings on Monday. I have been to England for the first time. With my dear friends ❤ I had the time of life ❤ Magic is real ❤ Hastings, I love you!!! 🙂
Like many in the comments below, I was born here and had an idylic childhood clambering over the West Hill rock face and running up and down the Pier.. There is a lovely piece of acoustic music that starts with the Mermaid (6 min).. Do you happen to know what/who it is.. Thanks
Thank you! I am so touched by your kind words! I have no doubt that you will enjoy the place. I really recommend visiting St Leonards too! Its a neighbouring town with a very different feel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MKUGXSE0L-g.html
Lovely video, very positive and engaging... I live in George Street in the Old Town... Hastings really is a magical place 🙂 Thanks for making the video!
i'm greatly enjoying all the architectural features you include. I really love the uniqueness of all the architectural details relevant to their era. Thank you for including the images. Wonderful work. It was a brief holiday for me from Sydney Australia....so charming and uplifting.
What splendid vlog on this amazing historical seaside town - there is so much more to it than the castle, goodness me I visited Hastings in June 2018 and I really scratched the surface as we were collecting a painting from an online auction. We visited some antique shops too. This year I do really need to revisit
You are very lucky to move there! I am sure you will enjoy living in such a beautiful and vibrant place! And of course the sea! It’s always a great thing to live by the sea
My connection with Hastings was in the '68 to '70, when I was attending HCFE. I was residing in 72, Warrior Square, St Leonards-on-sea. This video does brings me back to those years. I did explore the surroundings, from Folkstone to Brighton. But Hastings is my base.
When I was not going around the south coast, I would be loafing around the old town area. I must admit that I missed the lanesthat was such peaceful. My time in Hastings was '68 - '70, but did go back to Hastings '70 - '71.
Great video, one of your best so far. The length is also great. So far I've always found it a shame that the videos were so short. So far I only knew Hastings from passing through and it never really interested me. The next time I come to the island, I'll definitely see Hastings once. Thanks for that. Keep it up. Warm greetings from Germany.
Thank you for your kind feedback! I really appreciate it! When it comes to the length - I can edit to a specific length but I prefer to let it flow organically and see what it turns out to be. Now I think my videos are longer because I am using gimbal and playing with structure more
That was a lovely trip down memory lane for me. I left home 200 miles away in 1977 to work at what was the Queen’s Hotel on the seafront. I was aged 17, and it was my right of passage in so many ways. The video shows the town very much as it was, although sadly, I think the demographics have changed for the worse since those times. Thanks again, that was a lovely 20 minutes of nostalgia.
I am so glad that I brought warm memories for you with this piece! This is exactly why I feel compelled to make some of my videos: to bring out happy memories of the places for people
Thank you! We didn't go to the museum but next time we will be there we definitely will go. We went to see the caves. It was amazing. Especially that carved figure on the wall - quite strange what it is
An excellent and informative travel vlog and interesting perspective on the old town of Hastings. An interesting contrast would have been to show the development of the Regency/Victorian seafront over towards St Leonard’s and to also show the modern architecture of the Jerwood Gallery, which imo beautifully reflects the fishing net sheds. We also have a very evocative picture of those net sheds in our house by local artist Andrew Dennis, which we purchased as a memory of our stay.
Thanks for a great tour around Hastings I loved all the nooks and crannies you found. We are visiting there in a few weeks and now I can’t wait to explore
Very nicely done, I've lived in Hastings & St Leonards for the last 30 yrs you've captured it beautifully, I now live in Beckley nr rye for the last 15 yrs, you should do a film of rye, and Winchelsea, surrounding areas.
Thank you Martin! I will definitely make more pieces around the area next time I am there. I love seaside towns and the vibe, no doubt I will be back there:)
To add a touch of realism, you are only seeing the old town. The rest of the town has a large number of hideous and inappropriate buildings. However as a resident of many years, it is a great town with a huge musical background and bands, artists and authors congregate here. I always think with a bit of intelligence on behalf of the council (fat chance!) it could be the UK’s New Orleans!! Come see us sometime
Merci Mike for this wonderful video.... I will come to UK next Autumn and for sure will visit Hastings.... Where can I find good places to stay in Hastings? Bel Eté à vous🙋♀️🌺
Hi Sabina, thank you for your comment, the best place I found was Webbe's Rock-a-Nore restaurant: seafood platters are amazing there! Oysters are just like those served in Normandy!
@@mikebogatyrev3058 No its a ladys private home or was as she might not be alive as we lived there from the 170s into the 1980s,the outside was painted yellow shaped like a piece of cheese.
Thank you for clarifying: I am really surprised that Hastings is the only place I have seen those net shops in. And yet there are so many fishing villages with nothing like this. Do you know why it’s just Hastings that has those?
To be honest I found the constant pans a little off putting - there are lots of lost opportunities here e.g. the significance of the Battle of Hastings in English history is not covered, instead we hear a few not important facts and figures (not even particularly accurate) about the number of people killed etc. The commentary suggests we're moving into the heart of the town but the pictures show Croft Road - is that the heart of Hastings? we're also told we going to take a look at Hastings Castle but then we just see a few rocks on the cliff edge and none of the castle at all. I think it needs a bit more structure a big pairing down- suggest lose 10 mins so we don't repeat shots and and a review of shots are used because they're all a bit jumbled up add structure and review your comm as its baggy and doesn't work with the shots used.
So what if he doesn’t dwell on the ‘significance of the battle of Hastings’. He gives it a mention but it’s a travelogue - if you want a history lesson then go to a history channel, this one’s all about getting the atmosphere and flavour of a town and I think he’s done a perfect job. It’s certainly made me put Hastings on my staycation list.
