Thank you Audene for your lovely comment!! My pleasure to share the fruits of my labor before I retire. These patterns have been good to me and I hope they can help others rather than just disappear in a closet in one of the kid's basements someday! 36 years, lots of original designs to share. Have some good ones coming up! Working on about three different videos right now while I finish orders.

@@madcaphats People like you inspire me and make the world a better place. I was so moved that you chose the Sunflower fabric in your headband video to show support for Ukraine. Blessing upon you! One quick question: I saw your “ Rosie” headband and I see that it is made with stretch fabric so could I sew it with my serger?

Hi! I just love this hat and am planning to do it as a first hat project, do you think it would be ok to do it on denim? Or would you recommend a thinner fabric? Thanks for all your explanations ❤

Do you use interface on corduroy as well
@madcaphats
@madcaphats Год назад
You would decide to use interfacing if you want a more defined shape. I would use if the cord is a narrow wale, lots of ridges per inch, but if it is thick and wide you will probably not need interfacing. The three dimensional texture adds lots of the stiffness of the fabric. Thick cord no, thin cord use a light interfacing would be my advice.

Can you make cloche caps for mens too ?
@madcaphats
@madcaphats 11 месяцев назад
Sure! Why not! The shape would make a nice golf hat or fishing cap. Men tend to like their hats shallower in depth however so the depth of the top pattern piece would have to be played with a bit, squashed a bit or pushed down in the center like a fedora is. Let us know how it goes if you decide to make one for a fellow!

I am frustred with this hat pattern. I made it last night and the briim for way to big for the hat and spent close to 3 hrs trying to adjust the brim to fit the hat ! I took it in lke the video says 3/8 of and inch and it was to small. it the non paid pattern a normal women's head size? 22-23 inchesWhat am i doing wrong? please help I am so frustred ?
@madcaphats
@madcaphats Год назад
It sounds like the top pieces were cut too small or the brim too large. Or perhaps the numerous seams joining all the top pieces together could have been sewn a bit larger than 3/8"? First of all, cut only to the black line for the 3/8 seam allowance. Ignore the blue shadow outline for a larger seam allowance. Then I recommend printing two copies of the pattern and join the brim center seam (one side will be turned over so the writing will be on the other side) and tape together at the center front to create a full size brim piece. The top of the hat is in panels so the seam allowance joining those pieces at each side is very important. Over 6 seams a slight variation can make a difference but certainly not 3" unless you cut the top piece at the black line and the brim at the outside of the blue shadow. Sounds like a cutting issue so redo your pattern piece for the brim and cut the top panel at the black line not the outer shadow edge and try again with a new fabric. Second time will be the charm! Also check printer settings are at "actual page" or "custom" and then 100% as well. I hope that helps!
@CarolPark-u1x
@CarolPark-u1x Год назад
@@madcaphats I will try again I cut on the blue shadow line, not the black line wouldn’t the black line make it even smaller? I took in 3/8 of an inch like the video explains the non-purchase item is that for a normal size head 22 to 23 inches?
@madcaphats
@madcaphats Год назад
@@CarolPark-u1x I just replied to your email. I think this is an issue with your printer settings when you actually printed the pattern. Very pronounced when you have a top piece x 6 that is cut too small and you sew it together over 6 seams while the band has just one back seam so it might be small too, but not the extra 5 seams small. Check the printer settings ... must be printed at "actual page size" or "Custom" and then select 100%. Default for many printers is to "Fit to Page" and that will make your pattern pieces too small. Fingers crossed and cut to black line for 3/8" seam.

What size hat is the free pattern?
@madcaphats
@madcaphats Год назад
Hi Pat. The free pattern is the average women's head size which is 22.5 inches in circumference or 57.5 cm. Make sure your printer is set to print a page size "Actual" or Custom 100% when you print out the pattern from your PDF program. Check the printer settings before printing otherwise most printers default to "Fit to Page" and the pattern will be too small. Thanks for watching! Tori

There is a free copy in size medium and a nominal price pattern that is in three sizes with scarf templates and instructions. Both are digital PDF ... Free one is here Anne Marie, the very top on the list ... madcaphats.com/pages/summary-sheets-for-youtube-videos-in-pdf-form and the paid one is here madcaphats.com/products/fabulous-fashion-cloche-sewing-pattern-and-instructions-digital-format?variant=44452401086741 Hope those links work. You need to look at the index on the page that the link in the description takes you to and click on the larger type heading for this hat. That is the free link. There are lots of patterns on the list and how to click on the choices are explained above that index list. Hope that helps!
