The fact Hatari was stopped from turning this song into an historical Eurovision win for Iceland and european pop culture is a void that will never be filled. Still made history though.
@@faridaaxo I was both happy and shocked when I saw Måneskin’s Televoting results. But still Måneskin are something people would still choose over Hatari as they were just too divisive. :(
This is the type of song that grows on you. First time listening you think "the hell?", fourth time around you already know (or think you know) the lyrics and start the fight against capitalism
@@thomasneal9291 Iceland isn't a socialist country dude. Its a social democracy(capitalist with strong welfare state) like the rest of the Nordics. We would prefer it if people from the rest of the world didn't continuously misrepresent our political systems
Me: First time: Troll act??? Second time: Hey, this is actually really good Third after reading the comments over on reddit: ICELANDIC MCR??? Forth: ICELAND... YOU'RE OUR ONLY HOPE!!!
@@artlady4619 Even if because of that. That rule, that no-collaborating-with-Russia thing should have been announsed before National Selection. We have war like 5 years. And Maruv wasn't first. That year when Jamala went to Eurovision another partipicant of NS was going to win but oops! He supported separatists or something so Ja went then. I mean, they even not changed the rules officially. They only remember about it because of election coming in this march.
@Les Millis It's not particularly inventive. Novel for the Eurovision song contest, and pretty good for sure, but it's a run of the mill electro-industrial band. Look at bands such as Das Ich, Psychlon Nine, Combichrist, Aesthetic perfection, Angelspit, Santa Hates You, maybe even KMFDM etc. etc. etc.
@@polybian_bicycle And Throbbing Gristle back in the 70's who started it all... It's new for some people so it's cool they discover it. :) Aesthetic Perfection being the main act pushing the scene forward!
Alfred the Great said fiscari about fishermen, and would surely say hatari about haters. So icelandics sing in a very archaic language. Ástin mun deya, would probably be, 'hin asts munin dauhian' in gothic..! Èg kenni ást fyrir Hatari.. I feel love for Hatari..!
Psychlon Nine still the kings in this genre followed by Combichrist. I find Celldweller more badass than KMFDM. Celldweller - The Last Firtsborn is one epic industrial song, not the remixes they suck, the one with 2.4 mil views. The Enigma TNG has many badass songs to.
I'm definetwly a fun of industrial music but this is just transeds conventional music. Its angry, its raw, its in your face. Its doesnt sound like life in a factory. It is the factory. How can you not nlove it?
I already was a fan of bands like Sigur Ros so I loved the chorus right away. Had to get used to the distorted verses but it's actually kinda badass and a nice contrast.
i love that this has the same message as a lot of eurovision songs with the whole we need to love eachother and be united but it takes a completely different route and shows us whatll happen if we dont. awesome
Who are we supposed to love? The Muslims? Lets love them sure but back in their own countries. The irony btw is that they are probably talking about the right and how evil and racist they are when the right loves their country, its the left that hates their culture and everyone that doesn't think like them.
@@katyameowmeow What's wrong with nationalism? Not extreme nationalism just nationalism. And it's not vague, todays left literally can't stand people who don't think that there should be good border and immigration control and call everyone who has a problem with Islam a horrible racist, everyone who doesn't agree with todays extreme feminism a sexist and force diversity on everything because too much white men is bad and white people should be ashamed of their history.

okay, in the last 6 hours I watched all their interviews on youtube, read all the available info, looked at all their websites, their merch (tracksuits? classy!), found their instagrams and now i'm trying to figure out how to get some money to go to their concert in Poland in August... a day well spent
Hanna As much as I want to go to one of their concerts, I feel it’d be a little intimidating if everyone there is geared up and I’m just standing in the corner wearing jeans and a t-shirt 😂
@@klaudia6057 I was wearing jeans and black tshirt at their concert 😂 trust me, everybody is looking to HATARI fire on stage, not at what you are wearing ☺
Iceland, you made a damn right choice! And since my country (Ukraine) doesn’t participate in ESC anymore, I’m literally going to Poland at 18th of May just to be able to vote for that masterpiece. It’s a winner.
@@Kookie-fx1rr Klemen’s talks about how it’s a song reflecting dystopia. hope and hopelessness, power and powerlessness and that if we forget to love, hate will prevail

@@wesleyw7908 terrible singing quality? *TERRIBLE SINGING QUALITY???* You might not like this type of music but terrible quality singing is just wrong. I dare YOU to try to sing like Matthias without hurting your vocal chords or sing like Klemens without your voice cracking. Singing like they do is an accomplishement and you should at least give them that. Amd don't get me started on the lyrics and how important they are. I hope you changed your opinion after this.
Probably the most underrated song of this years contest. It was awesome to have something different in the show apart from all the "love" songs that are 90% boring, apart from Denmark. Denmark was just cute.
Their visual is shocking. Their lyric is philosophical. Their melodies and rhythms are exciting and beautiful. Their message is political. This is an art.
1. Same goes for Italy, Portugal, Portugal 2017 and Ukraine 2016 and they are/were fan favourites. 2. Meanings are for juries, music is for the people. 3. I bet that 90% of people watching the shows can't understand a full sentence in English (when sang ofc) let alone poetical lyrics.
@100Davros Iceland is not known as a Christian home country . Israel is known for being shelter to the jews. The only jewish country in the whole world. You see the difference?
The whole thing about those jury votes is so random. I mean come on, here in Germany the jury was composed of just five (mostly young) pop singers. That's it. No musicologists, no music journalists, no highly experienced songwriters, just five singers, who performed their new songs on TV at our highly cringe-worthy Eurovision Party in Hamburg. It's record label marketing that 'qualifies' them as jury members, nothing else. Of course those capitalistic puppets can't (or mustn't) appreciate an anti-capitalistic anti-mainstream song. I don't know about the jurys in other countries, but the votes of our German jury are absolutely pointless to me.
@@gaellemathieu3752 Same story)) Yeah, it's so strange))) At first I was not impresssed, but then I watched again, and again O_O Fifth time today :-D Unexplainable)))) I think I love it now O_O
This is their more quiet and sentimental songs. This song helps go to sleep sometimes. Good to meditate to. You can study with this song. Just a good song to chill to. Edit: how the hel did this comment get so many likes? Thank you tho!
I to mnie najbardziej zabolało...
@@cwireviews3503 racism and prejudice agains people of Chinese or Asian descent, physical fights over goods at stores, people using the fact that elders are scared and scamming them, arguments between sceptics and panics, families of people who have coronavirus getting treats and being ostracized, people who are employed in another country getting fired, hence creating hatred against that country etc etc
I'm here after I found out Matthias left and I'm heartbroken. But I'm glad I discovered them and had the chance to see them live. Unforgettable moment.
Amennnn!! I´ll vote for Iceland aswell. Worth the damn money. Also, I can´t vote for my own country ofc (Denmark) - And Iceland is just amazing and like I said in a comment, it is SO different
Saw the performance with my incredibly conservative and 'set in their ways' half of my family. They expressed nothing but contempt and disgust while, unbeknownst to them, i knew this was a banger. I was raised on Rammstein, musical richness and diversity. All in all 10/10... this is great. If you dislike this incredibly clever way of bending ones platform to their means and beautiful construction of vocal dualism as well as phenomenal display of inventive reinvention/interpretation of the industrial sound i encourage you to look beyond the visuals and sexual content and instead embrace the message. This piece is not about hate and nihilistic existentialism but rather a provocative display of a what is to come if we do not settle our diffrences and engage in civil and productive discourse and debate. United we can achieve the seemingly impossible. Alleast that''d be my interpretation.
I liked this song more and more in four stages: First: wtf, bad song. Second: There is something I like about this song. Third: It's actually good. Fourth: It's fcking awesome!!!
No way.. There is no chance that actually EXIST art like this... My winner for this year, I don't want to hear anything else! You take all my love (and votes) from Greece 🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸 #esc2020Reykjavik
When I was 16 industrial was my favorite music 🤣 but what I can say.. this guy with angry voice..oh my God ... he s so handsome and hot....for me it's ok even if he will scream on me like that. Call me 😅
It's been REALLY long since I had such a huge crush on a song. THANK YOU ISLAND, for sending this to ESC, and THANK YOU HATARI, for existing and creating this masterpiece!
