THIS STILL WORKS in the Ultra Games! Breeding mechanics are the same in Ultra Sun and Moon as in Sun/Moon. It was never patched and probably will never be at this point, as the mechanics would have to be completely redone.

ok it all makes sense but i have one question. if i am trying to get a shiny pokemon with a gender ratio of 1/2 (50% chance male, 50% chance female) do i have to do the whole rejecting process or do i keep hatching egg 5 (as per example) to get the gender i want? i would appreciate literally ANYONE giving me an answer and asap

Place your foreign pokemon (such as a ditto) with the destiny knot into the daycare. 2. Save the game. 3. Place the magikarp into the daycare. You do not need an everstone because we don’t care how the nature turns out since we will be resetting anyways. 4. Make sure your PC is set to a blank box. This is optional, But it will be easier to keep track of where your 30 eggs go. 5. Put six random pokemon in your party. The reason for this is when you receive eggs from the daycare lady it will ask if you want to put the egg directly in a box in the PC so you don’t have to physically bring them to the PC or hatch them while grabbing all 30 eggs. Technically, you could multitask and use soothe bells to make your pokemon happy while you running around obtaining eggs. 6. Obtain 30 eggs. We are doing this at chunks at a time. 30 is a great number because it fills up a box and is an attainable number (a reasonable goal) when you know the number of eggs it takes to hatch your shiny. 7. Take the magikarp out of the daycare to halt breeding once you obtained 30 eggs. This is important because if the daycare lady is holding an egg and it is the shiny and you save the game later, you will not be able to reset and modify that egg. 8. Hatch the 30 eggs you obtained. If your shiny magikarp does not appear within the 30 eggs, repeat steps 2-8 till your shiny magikarp appears then proceed to step 9. Why save again after you hatched those first 30 eggs? Because if your shiny magikarp appears within the 40th egg, you would want to just breed 10 eggs than the whole 40 eggs. 9. When your shiny magikarp appears, take note of the number of eggs. For example: if your shiny magikarp appeared on the 10th egg, you will need to reset and hatch 10 eggs for the shiny pokemon that you actually want to appear.

I did this tonight with a Gyarados instead and of a Magikarp (because it had perfect IVs already) and I got a shiny Magikarp on egg 26! :O THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Now I have a shiny competitive Perish-Trap Lapras!

Love this method. Got 4 Shiny Eevees in 3 days with it. If it continues working that well I'll have all eeveelutions including Eevee itself as Shinies in less than a week!

They won't patch it out. "Swap breeding" is also known as the "Time Machine Method" and has been around since at least X and Y. It can't be patched without overhauling how breeding works. Instacheck was patched out because it was re-tooled into a way to cheat in battles.

I wanted to thank you for this guide. I managed to get a shiny female magikarp with hidden ability on 342 egg and i swaped it into shiny female salandit with hidden ability. Yes, that is correct, i have now shiny Salazzle with Oblivious ability (and 5 perfect IV's, just need to level it to 100 for maxing HP iv's via bottle cap). And it all happened on my birthday! After the 30 eggs and no shiny, you save the game but do you need to remove the ditto and the other mon and put it back in again or can you just simply put the mon back when you removed it to halt the 30 eggs?

At this point, having a competitive shiny Pokemon just means you have no life.

Question @John4g , ok so I save, place a foreign magikarp and ditto (I know you did foreign ditto and sandy), get 30 eggs, take one parent out(does it matter which?) hatch, check for shiny, repeat if no shiny (do I need to take both parents out then save or just save and put the 1 parent I took out back in?) What I currently am doing is saving, placing both parents, getting 30 eggs, taking one parent out, hatching 30, then releasing all if no shiny, THEN I take the parent that was still in the nursery out, save and repeat. Am I doing anything wrong?

yeah I'm kind of lost, do you save your game before you put in the magikarp or do you save after you take it out? because if you save after you take it out you wouldn't be able to switch it out for the Pokémon you want to be shiny right?

I have 5 boxes full of magikarp still no shiny. yes I'm breeding it with a Japanese ditto.

is the destiny knot necessary for getting the shiny or is it just to have ditto's iv's on the pokemon?

So, if I were to take the destiny knot from ditto and give it to a different parent, e.g. 6 IV wingull, for the same species swapping, will the chain break? also do same species parents still do dice rolls for pokeballs even if they're both in the same ball?

What about if I get my shiny and I wanna go for another round of swap breeding? Do i just keep the ditto in the daycare untouched or what do I do? Is there a way to reset the whole shiny queue or is it as simple as maybe taking out both the karp and the ditto?

ok I think I got this so do you put in the foreign dido first then save your game then put in a magikarp, collect 30 eggs and if the shiny is egg number 15 soft rest your game and instead of putting in a magikarp put in the Pokémon that you want shiny and egg number 15 of that Pokémon will be the shiny one? is that right?

I was able to breed a shiny charizard but afterwards I forgot and took destiny knot off ditto. This reset the shiny chain but I tried to redo the whole process again. But now I can not breed anymore shines. Why is that? Is it just bad luck?

Thos happens with me: my first egg magikarp has serious as nature and if i keep resetting it constantly has serious as nature. In the first 30 pokemon i didnt get a shiny but if i reset the nature keeps the same so does that mean i cant get the shiny magikarp either?

What if my eggs hatch in my party? Usually my first Magikarp egg will hatch before I've even collected the third one. Can I just hatch 5 at a time in my party and wait until I get to 30 before saving and trying again? Is that effectively the same thing as collecting 30 eggs and hatching them all?

Okay, so let's say I get a shiny Magikarp. Successfully swap to a Froakie with Protean, but the shiny baby has Torrent instead. How do I make it so that in the sequence, I make that shiny Froakie have Protean?

After you hatch the 30 eggs and don't get a shiny, do you either A. L+R Start and then resave? Or B. Take the magikarp and ditto out and then save?

There's just one thing I'm unsure on and cant find in the comments, when you switch out to the parents you want to breed, do you reject that first egg as well?

Sorry just one question, I couldn't find it anywhere else, but, do you save before or after putting the DITTO in the daycare, that's the one thing that baffles me and that nobody seems to agree on at all accross videos, time and space and freaking REDDIT, also with that in mind when you didn't succeed in getting the shiny in those 30 eggs, do I save again and put the magikarp back in daycare, or do I take the Ditto out again, and then put both the Ditto and the Magikarp back again into the daycare to generate eggs as a second attempt, I don't know why this confuses me so much but I guess it's a doubt about when does the mechanic predict the eggs, thanks in advance, and sorry to be such a bother.

Have you done any egg modifying? I hear without cheating, you can re roll the dice to have lets say better ivs or a different ability. I tried doing that by rejecting eggs or whatever but it didn't work for me any help would be much apreciated

5:37 What if they both have the same ball? Does it still generate that extra roll for ball inheritance? It would seem nonsensical for it to still do so, but I want to be sure. I'm trying to get a shiny Mimikyu but my foreign Ditto has bad IVs. I have a foreign male Mimikyu with 5 perfect IVs that I want to pair with my 6 IV female though, and both have the same ball. Would I still have to alternate accepting and rejecting eggs?

What if I give the ditto an everstone and the non-magikarp parent a power bracer. Should I also give the magikarp the power bracer and then switch it to the real parent once I get a shiny?

I have absolutely no clue how the fixed gender thing works. Do you need to reject one egg, get the next, repeat or just one egg and then breed until the number you had your shiny magikarp?

Will this method work if the say the pokemon from another state is not a dito say its a magicarp could you breed it with an in game dito and still get the same result?

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out but you don't need to hatch XX many eggs TWICE. You just have to save after each NON-Shiny Egg, once you get an undesired shiny reload to the previous save, swap the mons, wait for an egg and hatch it. It should be shiny if you do it right, if not it should be the next one after.

I have a question. Let's say I'm doing the method where you swapped both parents and do the accept and reject. Would it change anything if the original parents were not holding items (destiny knot and everstone) but the replacement parents were?

I honestly recommend doing this for hard to hatch Pokemon like Beldum or dragon pokemon. I got a shiny dragon pokemon using this method thanks to how fast hatching magikarp eggs are compared to getting them normally through MM.
