Glad you had such a successful hatch. It is so cool to watch them as they develop in the shell and then to be able to see the beak and eyes. Amazing! And then to see their instincts after hatching. Thank you for sharing this with us newbies.

We really enjoy keeping chickens! They're an important part of our gardening system too, they eat pests, and make fertilizer! Maybe you can reach out about them changing the rules on keeping chickens where you are? I also talked to my neighbors to make sure they were ok with it.

You know your hatching stuff. My wife breeds finches and can pick things I don’t see. Are these going to be layers, eaters or both? Great presentation of the set up of incubators and egg development . Gorgeous pup.
@DiggingForHealth
@DiggingForHealth 2 года назад
Thank you! We used to have an aviary with finch when I lived on the west coast! I loved watching them! The Gouldian finches were my favorite! These are a bantam breed of chicken so they will be very small eggs but they are layers and pets. My daughter and I enjoy hatching chicks so we often fill the incubator and give most of them to friends and just keep a few to add to our mixed flock. This time because they're so little we may just keep most of them. 🤣 Little half-pint chickens! Haha!

Nice. I hatched my own eggs for the first time. I got 7 out of 11. I should have had 11 out of 11 but I'm an amateur and made some mistakes. Still happy with 7. Now, just hoping they aren't all roosters. Oh, the current flock has 2 Rhode Island Red roosters, 1 Americana rooster, 1 Americana hen, 1 Americana/black copper maran mixed hen, and two Asian something or another hens that were given to me. Who knows what my hatchlings are. Chicken mutts.
@DiggingForHealth
@DiggingForHealth 2 года назад
7 out of 11 is great, especially for someone new to hatching! I give all of my roosters away but I do know people that keep bachelor pads of roos because they don't fight with each other when they don't see hens.
