Same. I took 6 weeks of sabbatical (unpaid) and didn't really care for it. I found out that I just don't want to be reliant on a job, which means my subscriptions and rent are a big problem.
@@averagewelder750 its different for everyone.. we all have different living situation. there's no 1 size fits all.. save as much as you can without you going hungry..
Been saying that for too long and wishing everyone would just say no and stop taking crap from people who make millions. The thought that some people make the equivalent amount of hundreds an hour while myself and my coworkers make only in the 20s it's insane that we build their pay. Without us they don't have their millions.
I did this like 10 years ago, best move ever. That sacrifice led me towards opportunities that I never would have been able to pursue if I stayed at the toxic place
So, so true. I work for the department of Education and the administration are verbally abusive to teachers and staff. The school principal and the assistant principal are the most nasty human being I ever met. I am so happy I am so close to retirement. Praise God that he has been opening doors for me to be able to retire soon. Today by God’s Grace I paid off my mortgage.
I quit my job, started waiting tables so I’d have time to promote my book and start my blog! Best decision ever! You’re never stuck! There are always options 😊
Changing careers and working for myself has been one of the best decisions I've done for myself, even after family and friends thought I was crazy for doing so. Jim Carrey supposedly once said: "If you're not willing to downgrade your lifestyle for a year to have a lifestyle you want forever, you care too much about what other people think."
i work 60-80hr weeks and love it, honestly dont know what id do with the down time. but i travel for a living, and only work half the year. other half i do what i want (without getting paid) when i want so it balances out for me. i wouldn't know what to do with myself on a 40hr week, no time to do anything big, but to much time at the end of the day to just do small things. 12hr days are the best, as long as its a reasonable commute
It would he just be bad luck if I got laid off from my 3 jobs. Oh well I'm right by the Mexican border, the average salary is $150 a week. That would be the new goal 😂
Why does my job feel like a bad marriage? I keep thinking I can change it, but in reality, it's just a toxic relationship with fewer weekend getaways. Time to draft my resignation letter or hire a divorce lawyer for my career!
You are completely correct. Switching careers did set me back about 30% of my highest income. I studied on my own to get into software engineering for 2 years after work and on the weekends with all my free time. Got an entry level job last year paying that 30% less. Not even 1 year later I received a new job with incredible benefits, an amazing set of coworkers, and a 50% pay raise. Just put in the work, and you can get there. I couldn't be happier, and I hope you all achieve the same.
Stress out at work, high blood pressure went up, ended in ER, I MADE CHANGES, JUST CAME BACK FROM A VACATION IN PARADISE, RAIN FOREST, SNORKELING, POOL ETC... I FEEL GOOD. Treat yourself, once you reach 67 you will not have much energy, get out, love your life, spend quality time with your children
I needed this today...I hate my job but I have kids and even tho I have a FULL TIME side hustle that makes the same amt monthly that I do in my medical job....Im scared. Especially since i just put down the money for our house and am now paying a mortgage but I have to do something. I hate waking up to someone else's clock...
There must be a swing in labor vs indoor email passing jobs. Those that do hard work are compensated less than the micro managers forwarding pointless emails all day.
I went back to school and I am doing everything to get doctorate level now. Planning my next 10yrs very very carefully. I might move out of america cause of the state its going to be in next 10yrs. Thanks CVT for your last few videos!
I just quiet quit lol I do the bare minimum, ignore some things I see that don't need to be done, and go do errands when I feel like it. Little care, little worry, still getting a paycheck. It isn't worth it to care about your pointless work. It is just work, it isn't your life.
I now absolutely hate my job. My management changed my schedule and workload. So, I am quitting next month. My wife, daughter, and I have $3500 passive income monthly to cover our bills and some expenses. I will need to find a part-time job. I love driving and chatting with people and love pet sitting. I think this is good since I live in Vegas. Also, my VA covers 100% of medical costs for all my family. Thank you for the clip and the encouragement.
Much Kudos to you, Frank! I'm trying to get to where you are and I know it will take a lot more ME grinding it out! I work in Healthcare IT and my wife is a paraprofessional. I imagine out lives, with $3500 of passive income per month! 😵
I was a lawyer in Russia, switched to the film production. Now I’m in LA starting the whole life again. Don’t afraid of changes, just do what you feel you need to do.
I legit just got fired on Friday. Got a new job on Saturday morning. Same great pay and a lot closer to home. I had no passion working for my previous employer and hated my job, but I do love the industry I'm in.
They complain about layoffs but the truth is that at every company I've worked for you could layoff 50% of the employees and it wouldn't impact productivity. Just make sure to layoff the right ones who don't contribute anything except for their "diversity."
Everything is unfair. That’s because you’re still on your journey. Hey you’re not alone. Love and respect yourself guys. I’m on my way to stop doing negative things to myself and yes it does take some time and effort. Face the reality but dream big hope everyone have a good day.
I technically retired in my early 30s because my boss tried to get rid of me but he actually retired me because he's an idiot and very insecure so I flipped the situation to my advantage with some help.
I don't hate my job but my boss needs to be trained on how to manage her office. I almost quit yesterday. For real. And my husband is 100% supportive and actually hopes I quit because he makes more and wants to work more. The only reason I haven't quit is because I am using my paycheck for investing and savings. I understand we can manage without my income but I also love paying my bills, being out of debt, AND having food to eat whenever I am hungry. But if my stocks keep popping like they have been this past 5 weeks, I just might quit.
No just quitting is stupid..I hated my job so I did the work to better my condition..I upgraded my skills by going back to school to put myself in a place where I had More options..
I'm definitely a structure type person - show me how its done then I'll take it from there and give it my best. My day job is an IT gig that is 100% telework so I never have to be at an office and I have a boss who is very hands-off (not a micro manager). It really is a good job and I enjoy what I do. My financial focus is watching expenses and investing smartly when funds allow so I can retire in my late 50s then relocate overseas where the purchasing power of my fixed income will go farther.
Brian, this is excellent advice. As a top earning salesperson in a multi-million dollar company, I was a victim of corporate restructuring where the major accounts became house accounts due to automatic replenishment systems on computer. My income was cut in half so I had to do something. I took my first $10,000 and invested in my own importing and distribution business because that was my area of expertise for almost 20 years. I kept my day job and worked out of my home as I slowly grew my business out of the cash flow. After a few years of careful well planned growth, I finally left my day job as I continued to grow my client base. Eventually I moved into a warehouse space and now have a multi-million dollars business with 4 full-time employees! It can be done in America.
The problem is if you open your own business in any field, there is already high competition out there ! Worse thing you can do is to open business now during hyperinflation ! There will be always someone who does it cheaper and you are screwed....And if you hate your job, no worries, you will get laid off soon ! We are fucked...
I think the majority fall between not minding their job and hating their job. Few people in America love their job. I am working toward what my Dad has. He is retired, living on a small pension and social security. He doesn't have much in material stuff, he is a simple man but he doesn't answer to anyone. That's my goal and I'm getting closer every day! Simple life where I don't answer to anyone! Sounds golden to me!
I hate my job. Im a dentist. I went to an Ivy league school. Im home in Africa couldnt or wouldn't stay in the US. Pushed into medicine by my pushy father since highschool. Regret it AF. I need to get out. The jail analogy is exactly how i seen my plans the past 6 years: digging a tunnel out of a jail. Can't take face to face human contact anymore for money any longer so all my effort is online business - its a wonderful dream, I can already see my success. I still see patients but cant wait to be free
I don't hate my job itself, I hate the constant struggle with others who incessantly try to pawn their work off onto me. I hate that no one ever wants to take responsibility for anything because they could be wrong, so all decision making and accountability comes back to me. I hate that certain peoples are never held accountable for their work, but instead it becomes my responsibility to take care of and mentor them when NO ONE mentored me. Yes, I'm a white male but you could also have assumed I was an Asian male.
I know where you're coming from. I work very hard and it seems that the people who work the hardest not only get the most work, but get treated the worst. I had to change my whole daytime schedule around to accommodate others when I am the most productive employee. It isn't fair. I won't be here for much longer. Something better comes along and then I'll bounce.
Sort of a funny video here. Working for a company that you don’t particularly love; that can be said for just about anywhere. You can’t blame a specific company when people are people at the end of the day. Meaning, people are the same, no matter where you go. No better/no worse. People are people.
Thanks Brian. I have been blessed by my 40 year career as a CPA. I started in public practice with a local firm way back in the day. When my daughter was born I was hired by a mid sized nonprofit, working part time, around school hours and activities. This balance was key to my job satisfaction. In addition, I love the nature of my work because it's a blend of crunching numbers which I love and helping/training others which I love too. I have been paid a fair, generous wage although certainly not what I would have made if I stayed in public accounting. After 30 years with the same organization, I will be retiring in October. I am grateful for my years of joy and my heart goes out to those who feel stuck in their jobs. Looking forward to using my gifts in volunteer work. Excited to turn the page!
Many of us like our work, but the corporate America environment is intolerable due to DEI and other woke policies. That basically only leaves starting a business, or in my case just coasting on the off road to retirement.
I agree with everything you said, or take on full time side hustle dont expect nothing from working for lyft/uber or any delivery services other then your own. You cant expect tips for everyone and i wish people would end this trend.
You right Brian...I have two businesses and on my 3rd and 4th year respectively...it takes a bit of time to get profit. But I was able to get the EIDL grant and Targeted grant that help to propel me... Commercial window washing Procurement company for Oil and Gas
I used to hate my job and ever since I quit, I feel free😂 the pay and benefits were great, but the environment was so toxic that it started affecting me. I just found a job that is super easy .. I am eager to learn new skills and get the job done. 😈
Great video! Some parts hit home for me. I was in an industry I was tired of. Moved back home to go back to school and worked crappy jobs while in school. Graduated last year in accounting. I work at a smaller firm. Next goal is to pass the CPA. It would be nice to open my own little shop, but I'm happy where I'm at right now. I'm in early forties, so I did a career change a lityle later in life, but it has made all the difference. Best of luck to everyone!
It's a great video. Some people have to stay because of family obligations and finding companies that have flex schedules present challenges. They can be overcome but takes more time.
So interesting how your channel was focusing on the stimulus checks and seeing it grow into something so much greater is a blessing. You have great information and presentation - making society a better place!!
I started my own business about 20 years ago, but quit that 5 years ago to get a job, because I was tired of the business. Now I think I'm getting a little on the older side to get hired easily and have gotten fed up with either too low of pay or abusive bosses. It's hard getting away from underemployment. I'm seriously considering starting another business. What's funny is I'm thinking about a cat related business and Brian used a cat business as an example..lol. I figured if I'm going to start a business, it might as well be something I like, as long as it makes decent money.
I filed my LLC paperwork last week for my handyman business that I am starting. I’m keeping my full time job for the time being, I work 7 am to 3 pm so I will be scheduling jobs for nights and weekends in the beginning and looking to transition out of my job if demand is high.
I worked in the same field for about 30 years. Did do an upgrade after some tech school in my 20's. Never was promoted ONCE in 30 years. Worked both private, public and even went on my own for two years. Found a way out 🙂after they rubber roomed me in my last job and haven't worked since. Going on 20 years of freedom. Find your own way!
Brian... Brian I've been watching you for years. You're definitely the most honest speaking person on RU-vid in my opinion. I never met you. But I would love to have a few beers and talk with you on a fun basis. This video Hit me harder than anything I've seen for you. I'm making construction Craftsman 25 years deep. I make more money on a side job on the weekends and I do all week working for the company that I work for the last 18 years. I keep telling myself if I keep working I'll get paid more. But I have slowly realized I'm being taken advantage of. And I'm just tired of it. It's hard to make the big leap when you got a wife and four kids and a mortgage. My wife and I have been together for over 20 years. So all of our kids are ours alone and they are not welfare babies. What's what you said that much structure I have. I've got to stop waiting around. Thank you for this video honestly. And thanks for not having CGI in the background. Always full hearted and straight to the point. I hope to buy you a beer someday.
Excellent video, Brian it's amazing how close to the way I became self-employed years old. I have always sold myself as an independent contractor. Have a great day, BROTHER! BRIAN IS THE PODCAST🦁 LION (the Walter Cronkite of podcasts)🏆
Anyone with an average income can achieve financial freedom in 10 to 20 years. So why isn't half the population able to retire at 45? Ageism is real. If you aren't financially secure by 45 and you lose your job... you're screwed!
After being laid off I cut Grass. I made $25/yard and soon I could cut 2 per hour. Today you're lucky to find someone charging less than $50. People of your kind are stuck because they fear sweat.😂
That’s me. Will never work for someone else again and I burned both my science college degree diplomas. The only regret was waiting and not doing it the very moment my supervisors opened their mouths 😂 My advice is to focus on creating redundancy in a short burst of time because you don’t know what will work when you first start. If you can get to a critical mass of creating thousands of products, thousands of emails, thousands of whatever you do, you will have so much work that you will be forced to quit your day job. It took me just 4 months to quit my day job and right away my income doubled. Now six years into it my income is 5x what it was at my day job. Went from making 25k to 160k a year, but the freedom to wake up whenever you want and not have to drive like a maniac and enjoy your driving is priceless.
@@clearvaluetax9382 You're making videos on your "Lunch break"... Because that's when you are ALLOWED to be away from your desk. And you do it in the Bathroom... Because that's the Only place you can get decent PRIVACY. It's actually quite logical... 😎😎
I was an employee and ran my own consulting firm and your advice was 100% spot on. I would only suggest one caveat for folks to consider. Always do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life. I found that as long as I was doing what I loved, somehow the universe knew what I was doing was the right thing. And THAT was when the prosperity followed. It just seemed to come to me, I didn't have to kill myself chasing a dollar like a fool.
