discussion of the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee on Education and Human Resources Development and Women and Gender, pertaining to the highly debated ‘Hathe Ape Potha’ concluded without a final decision reached.
The Parliament Communication Department said the Sectorial Oversight Committees will convene once again today to deliberate the content on the textbook.
During the previous government’s tenure, the Ministries of Health and Education jointly launched the book for grade 7 students, with the aim of educating children on topics such as sexual and reproductive health.
However the book was subject to much controversy, as various factions accused it of being obscene.
At the last meeting of the Sectoral Oversight Committee, several groups, including experts, pointed out that the textbook was an important, timely teaching material for a developing child’s mind.
