everyone saw Hathor sneak away, why would that be an oopsie?? it is similar to deadpool 2 how juggernaut sneak away...if you do not watch you will miss, it is a "be immersed or be punished scene" dont be adhd, why keep eyes on screen for ever nanosecond, and then it is over you can turn head

Without saying too much, there is at least one or two episodes where we see a scan of Junior inside Teal'c, so we do get a sense of positioning within the pouch

I take in change from "they need it once they have one" to "they need once they come of age" as the first version was Teal's belief and the later is if how it really is. I know it still doesn't work perfectly but it works for me enough

Rya’c was a natural born Jaffa. Jack had been freshly made into one. It is possible that the transformed ones do need a larval Goa’uld to live. After all, if you create one you probably need them to serve you right now, so why give them a choice?
@Markus117d
@Markus117d 4 месяца назад
Rya'c would have been fine without a symbiote, Ic he'd never gotten one, It's not until the first symbiote a jaffa carries that they become dependent on them.. So presumably Jack would also be fine even with the pouch as long as a symbiote never moved in lol..

The Jaffa don’t require a symbiote until they come of age, like 13 then they have to have one, rya’c always needed a symbiote because that’s how it works. They say this in later seasons and this is why rya’c was dying without one, they didn’t explain any of this until later episodes, idk why teal’c thought he’d be fine without one when all children go through this but I blame the writers, all of this confusion comes from early episodes where they had no idea what was going on
@Mirality

Rya'c only needed it because he had a serious illness, it wasn't specifically about coming of age. Though it did get retconned later, unfortunately.
@P226nut

@@Mirality he was coming of age, that’s why they were doing the ceremony of implantation, why would they only implant when they get sick? That makes no sense, he was always going to need one when he came of age

I used to think this was just a silly fanservice episode. You two have made me rethink this one. It's a great episode that shows some reality, despite the silliness of the science of what happens. Btw, the women did outsmart the men in their escape. If they hadn't outsmarted them, the men would have realized what was going on.

One thing Hathor has over Emancipation is providing story beats that are relevant to the rest of the series. Emancipation is what people nowadays would call pure filler.

As far as leading female villains, the BBC was ahead of most everyone else. Blake's 7 had Servalan as their leading series villain; and Doctor Who had Cessair, Lady Adrasta, and the Rani in the 70s and 80s.

It's interesting hearing you talk about how the American navy is the odd one out when it comes to ranks because there's a similar oddity with our navy here in Australia. In the army and air-force here we pronounce lieutenant as left-enant like the British do but will say loo-tenant like you guys do when it comes to the navy. Why that is I have no idea
@Mirality

Obviously, it's because a loo is water-based.

I was amazed, whilst watching The Wire, that apparently the Baltimore Police use the rank of Major? I've been watching American cop shows on TV since certainly the 70s, and I don't remember EVER hearing of a police officer with the rank of Major . . . I don't know if this is just a Baltimore/Maryland thing, or if it's across the whole country?

Everyone needs to understand, Samantha Carter is outside the norm for women, on any number of levels. She's about 5'10" and incredibly accomplished and well above generius, and stout. Close to Daniel Jackson's build at the beginning of the series. There is a reason Amanda Tapping was chosen for the role. It was so she wouldn't look ridiculous fighting alongside the bigger, in Judge's case much bigger, men of the show. She is also quite intelligent and can make complex realworld and not so realworld technobable understandable. Frankly I would have loved seeing Teryl Rothery in the field more, but she is nearly a head shorter, 5'2". In Universe, most people assigned to SGC are going to be exceptional among exceptional people.

Rya´c was not a human, Sarcophagus would not help him. He was a Jaffa and his immune system was failing because he was at the stage of a development where his´biological childhood ended.

But Rya'c DID need a symbiote once he came of age. Jack was a full-grown adult when he was turned so it makes sense he would need one.

Not sure it seems there are a class of Jaffa (or potential Jaffa?) who never get implanted, Rya’c is only going to get one cause his mother has found a way to get them reinstated to the ‘upper class’ but it would imply the people living in the outskirts never get them
@mworldxyz5631
@mworldxyz5631 13 дней назад
@@dekulruno No, people in the outskirts did get them. Rya'c and his mother were outcasts among the outcasts as well, therefore she had to beg to the priest to do the implantation, and actually save her son from death as a result of not having a working immune system. At this point in the show, a Jaffa without a symbiote is a dead Jaffa. Later there are developments, but I don't want to spoil it..

I do want to say one other thing though, about the *Bechdel Test.* First, the Bechdel Test is _fundamentally stupid in principle._ It was a joke from a comic strip about a lesbian character's criteria for film selection, it's not some fundamental principle of social justice and has absolutely nothing to do with a film's quality. There is absolutely no reason why we should reify Alison Bechdel's movie preferences. _Das Boot,_ set entirely on a WW2 German sub with no female characters, completely fails the Bechdel Test but is a great movie. _Pride and Prejudice_ also fails the Bechdel Test, as the entire story is about love, marriage and the relationship between the genders, but is a great story and several great films. Meanwhile, _Barbarian Queen_ passes the Bechdel Test with flying colors but is a gross, misogynistic exploitation film. Second, I don't think a conversation about men being mind controlled by an alien goddess really counts as "women talking about men" as per the Bechdel Test.
@dargron7614
@dargron7614 4 месяца назад
The Bechdel Test should be treated like the Pirate Code - more a set of guidelines than actual rules. It's a great and useful tool for a scriptwriter to keep in mind whenever writing female characters, but it should never be treated as a strict "to do list" or interfere with the overall story trying to be told, nor be used as criteria to dictate whether a film is eligible for awards.
@wolfofthewest8019
@wolfofthewest8019 4 месяца назад
@@dargron7614 I don't even think it's a particular useful tool for writers. The reality is that the Bechdel Test is _designed_ to eliminate the kind of movie most popular with women, which is romances and especially romantic comedies featuring straight protagonists. And while it's entirely fair for Allison Bechdel, a lesbian, to not be interested in heterosexual romances, it's the height of stupidity to assume that the _average_ woman, who is _not_ a lesbian, to have the same prejudices as Allison Bechdel. In a romantic comedy, you typically have a female protagonist who is involved in a romantic quandary. Most of the plot and thus most of the scenes will be directly involved with developing the romance between the protagonist and the male love interest. Scenes that don't involve the protagonist and romantic interest will typically involve the protagonist and a confidant discussing the main plot of the story, i.e. the romance. And that confidant is typically another woman (or a gay man if it was made in the late 90s/early 2000s). The Bechdel Test is actually _designed_ to dismiss the standard structure of the _heterosexual_ romantic comedy -- notice a _lesbian_ romance would pass the Bechdel Test, because two women talking about a third woman passes the test. But it's the height of absurdity to suggest that the average woman is represented by a butch lesbian comedian.

It bothers us too. We had a big discussion about it. If we were flipped, our eye line would have been all wrong. So it’s really one or the other. Since we look at the screen more than each other, that’s what we went with.

Wait you like modern Star Wars? Instant credibility loss, I love women in Star Wars but I hate “the message” that they push and the writing sucks, they ruined Star Wars and put chicks at the forefront so at some point people are going to hate this and blame it on the women, it’s sad, the issue isn’t the women staring in the show it’s the women making the Star Wars that push “the message” whatever that is, it seems like “the message” is that straight men have no place in the universe anymore. I just can’t believe you actually like the garbage being sold as modern Star Wars
