But honestly the truth is I prefer to identify simply as American because that's what I am. We shouldn't be separated or divided over race and ethnicity but we should primarily identify as Americans to emphasize our unity over our diversity (though our diversity is important too). America should be a place that cares far more about the content of one's character than the color of one's skin, as Martin Luther Jr. said, and our nation should be a land that lives by its founding ideals and principles first and foremost. But sadly in the USA, race and ethnicity have become politicized weapons in many places.

I have no idea. It was a long time ago; I think about 60 years ago. The melody stuck, but the words disappeared from my memory.

We wrote Hatikvah in a minor key, and it’s the only national anthem to be in such a key; we did it because this isn’t a patriotic march like you see in other anthems. This is a song detailing the Jewish struggle for statehood.
