I just realized that the reason Wowaka's songs are somewhat vague is that everyone can get something different from it, that resonates with them and their emotions, much like poetry! This song is a great example, especially if you read all the different interpretations in the comments!
This has to be my favorite Wowaka song. Miku sounds beautiful in this and the music itself is really good. Its a shame this isn't as popular as the rest of Wowaka's works.
i think it's same with Rolling Girl. I mean he used different instrumentals but every beat, composition and rhytym or whatever they are called are the same. So I love it as much as Rolling Girl!!
I bought the "Unhappy Refrain Wowaka" CD and this song is on it and I LOVE it! I had favorited this song a while ago, and I just listened to it recently and realized it was this song! XD
i'm gonna apply this song to my own problems and say that it's about the singer trying to make connections and talk to people, but is too shy or too awkward or too afraid to talk to people. therefore, the singer hides away and only prefers to hide and be alone.
I actually applied it to my own life in a similar way. There's a youtuber I really like who runs a small business and my dream is to work for him, but I of course have my doubts about accomplishing this, hence the line, "My dream is innocently selfish." and this feeling makes me scared to approach him or other similar people online.
Jace Lynn I don’t know anything about what you do or what this youtuber’s business is about, but I’d think he’d be overjoyed that his small little business has someone who’d really want to work for it. Knowing yourself and that you can work for him like you have the ability and time and the skills he’d need, on top of your exceeding willingness, you wouldn’t be hurting anyone by trying so good luck with whatever you choose to do about this(though it might be embarrassing even online I get that feeling a lot lol). I believe you could do great.
@@hoodspawn9073You're the first person who hasn't told me that my goal is absolutely ridiculous, so thank you. I'm going to try really hard to get into his company, but even if I don't, I'll just be happy that I tried. Thank you for the supportive comment, I'll remember it!
Jace Lynn I hope you well and exactly, even if it doesn’t happen ideally you tried and gained from that and it’ll be a lot more than many people who held back only to regret it can say. :) (Btw sorry for the late response, I don’t come online all that much haha.) I wish you well! :D
thanks for your translation katagatar. as always, you do a pretty good job of bringing out the meanings of the composer as best as any good student of english could. in my opinion, i think wowaka is one of the best composers/producers out there, who (thankfully) uses hatsune miku to do his songs, which are all very unique i might add
Wow ok I fucking love you. I love this album like crazy, and have been dying to know what's actually being said in these songs. Toosenbo is my fucking favorite, too ;-;
I think this shares a common theme that most of Wowaka's songs have. Suicide. (Happy refrain and World's End Dancehall they jump of a building, Rolling Girl has attempted suicide, Building Blocks.... holy fuck) I think that this is the same story as Rolling Girl. She's upset with her image, so she wants to kill herself. With either one you could assume that they did kill themselves, or someone else saved them. Going with the later, I believe one is Miku and the other is Luka, being saved by the other. Then they fall in love and move to the events of... you guessed it, World's End Dancehall!
Lavernia Blankenheim I can actually figure out a cannon between Rolling Girl, Standing in your Way, World's end Dancehall, and Unhappy Refrain, by just changing some of the characters in the songs around. The way I see it is Miku in Rolling Girl was bullied, and tried to kill herself. Now, let's say the boy seen in RG is the same girl singing Standing in your Way, and they are Luka. Luka is also going through depression, except the difference is she just hates herself. Luka just doesn't want Miku to go through what she's going through, so she helps Miku stop her thoughts of suicide. After her job is done, Miku tries to become friends with her, but Luka says things like "Go away, don't look at me" like in the song, because she doesn't feel self-confident. She essentially stands in Miku's way from trying to return the favor of saving her. Of course, Luka is saved. The two girls become friends and later fall in love. The bullying returns, now for their relationship. The both agree that now that they have each other, there's nothing else left for them, and jump off of an abandoned building, and this is the only time they are ever truly happy. In WeDH, at the end when they're falling, another Miku and Luka are standing in the window in a scene that looks very similar to the Kagamine version of Unhappy Refrain. Let's go with their version of the song, even though the original had Miku, and also say that the Miku and Luka in the window are the twins. It can be assumed that they knew Miku at one point, as there's a reference to the Rolling Girl in the song. Maybe they dropped out of school and aren't happy with the life they now live, leading a gang that's disbanded. Either way, they see Miku and Luka happy when they jump, so they follow their lead, hence "falling onto the asphalt that lied below" I know it's convoluted and very unlikely to be true, but I like my theory :)
Why do I always mix a few of Wowaka's songs with his other works? I don't care if they're all depressing, they're still good. Wowaka you'll be remembered...
Yeah most of his jobs are overshadowed. Not that its a bad thing. Those popular work of his are undoubtly his bests. A nice gateway to more of Wowaka's chaotic music

@VocaloidFTW well i think their weird and hard-to-understand meanings are the reasons of why i love wowaka's songs so much =D but i understand what your saying about ura-omote lovers,to me miku is just to sweet for something like that XD
I wonder if Wowaka used MS Paint to draw most of his song's visuals? Tenohira does looks like something that came outta paint. Although the "Off limit"'s font is not a font Im familiar with
also i think the angle of the line behind “off limits” is too smooth to have been done in paint… but you certainly wouldn’t need a very complicated program to make this picture…
I have the album both physical and digital and the original of this song still slaps so hard. I wish this version was on the disc. RIP wowaka you changed vocaloid as we know it forever
@NerushiMotsu21 Well technically 'boku' is often used for girls in songs, just because 'boku' is two syllables and 'watashi'/'atashi' is three respectively...
Can someone please tell me who made this version of the song? what the remix name is? or if this the original. This one sounds MUCH different from the version on the album. This version sounds more electronic, while the album version sounds more like it has a pronounced drum-line.
Hey! Just a little late, but hope this helps: Wowaka wrote this version as well. When he original uploaded the song on Nico Nico, this was the one he released. For the official album release of his music, he used a lot more of a rockband (assuming it's because he had the funding for it.) So it's really likely that if you hear a more electronic sounding version of a Wowaka song, that's the original he released, with the album version being a subsequent one
wowaka is good for someone with little experience, but his songs usually (if not all) have a wierd or hard-to-understand meaning. i mean the beat is good in most of them, but he's not my favorite, just because of "Two-Faced Lovers", doesn't fit Miku at all hate how it make Miku seem older.
