There's something about a non-Vocaloid fan liking Project Diva that makes me so happy. I love the series and sometimes show it to my friends, but they say it's either too hard or the music is weird :/ glad you like mega39s though! I think you'll have a lot of fun with it for a long time. I've been playing Project Diva for a few years and have perfected a few songs on extreme, but it's still so enjoyable. Since mega39s has a lot of songs, I think you'll progress fast in it :) If I'm to assume the gameplay in the video is you, it's good you're already at normal. Don't be afraid to dip your toes in the lower star hard songs! Have fun and very nice review ^^

Project diva mega mix on the switch was my first introduction to Hatsune Miku and vocaloids! I got it because I wanted a rhythm game, now let me tell you, *I T O P E N E D M Y E Y E S* It’s really fun, I only started 2 weeks ago but I can already clear 4 hard mode songs! I love the game and now vocaloids! It’s super fun, when I first got it I had no idea Hatsune miku or vocaloids existed but I’m really happy now!

Hatsune Miku was supposed to perform at this year's Coachella, my guess is that the game would release around that time. In the summer, but sadly the music festival has been cancelled because of the virus :/ I'm still looking forward to the western release!

I. Love. This. Game. This entire series is my jam. Literally. Been playing it for nearly 12 years now. Thank you so much for covering this- though it was a day one purchase for me anyway (been playing it nonstop since last Wed), and I’m likely gonna buy the US version -again- later. Hope there are other Vocaloid fans out there!!!

@@SwitchWatch I always enjoy a good Miku game! The tutorial track is called Ievan Polkka; its traditionally restricted to the tutorial section in every Miku game. The only games that broke this rule were the first Project Diva (PSP) and Future Tone a couple years back, and you had to unlock it by beating any song on hard. I thought that might be the case this time around, but so far no dice. Maybe if a song is beaten on extreme! Though I love the games, I'm not that good... T.T Though on an amusing side note: there was a great commercial that aired a few years back to promote the Miku Expo 2017 tour with Jason Statham and the Ievan Polkka song in the background. Just youtube search Hatsune Miku Jason Statham and its like the first one that pops up. It's... it's just legend.

Excellent review as always. Just got my special edition yesterday and that 5 cds of music are really good. You really should get that edition since it's getting out of stock everywhere. I understand your point of lack of touchscreen gameplay but this series was always about buttons and besides this game and groove coaster wai party, almost all other rhythm games were meant to use touchscreen above the buttons so it's nice to have another game more focused on button gameplay. Keep up the amazing work on making my wallet cry.

The best thing about Vocaloid and Project Diva is that every single song is made by different artists which is one of the main appeals of Vocaloid I mean imagine a song you made being in a game or a live concert

@@SwitchWatch It is like making a song with a synthesizer, they pay a license to be able to use the software (Vocaloid voicebank), and when they create a song they would be the owners of said song. They make money if the song is popular in streaming sites (Niconico, youtube, Spotify) or selling albums. If the song is popular or rising in popularity then Crypton or Sega would pay for the license of the song to be used in concerts or in videogames, sometimes the producers are directly paid to create songs.

Bit of an update for this video, a touch mode is now available for the Japanese version of this game and the western version is going to be released on the eShop May 15th (Digital only) Touch mode might be out for the west by the time the game is out but it's uncertain.

I'm so glad this game is making people that weren't previous fans into fans. Maybe sega will start taking the series more seriously and giving us more new songs and content in the next game.

I think the only hurdle is getting people to try it. From an outsider it's very difficult to see the appeal especially if you're not into vocaloid (or even know what it is). I'm sure when people actually play it, they will love it.

I'm glad that you like it even though you don't listen to Vocaloid :D a lot of my friends think the music is weird, my bf got used to it and likes some of them now haha. You should try playing Project Diva Future Tone on PS4 has more songs although doesn't have the other modes. Also, it's really funny when I watch Vocaloid fans bash this game because it's a direct port from PS4 and too many DLCs and toon shader is bad etc. and here you are enjoying this game as it is :P

Compare to future tone it is a catch grab since that games has way more songs for a cheaper price and the new songs in this game are coming to future tone and the dlc is 50 dollars to get songs already in future tone, but I not complaing I support this game glad I can use the PlayStation layout instead of the switch which I would not want to play a rythem game making me play with the switch layout plus using a ps4 controller for all switch games, I not complaint I support everything miku, while future tone will always be my main game and I will always play that over mega 39 this is a good version for switch fans despite it being a future tone with a lot less content, I'll probably play this for around 100 hours while future tone im at over 300 hours and will defiantly continue to play and eventually reach 1000 hours.

The English version has been out for a while, and they haven’t patched English in. None of the last entries that were localized received this treatment, so they probably won’t do it.

I' really did want the collectors edition for the CDs back then and i'm still gutted, it was far too pricey but at least the English version came out since, i was so thrilled to have more than half of Project Diva Future Tone potable back then and i still play it now [also personally i do listen to the music outside of the game, i own 124 vocaloid CD's collected for 3 years from Feb 2017 to Feb 2020 and then i stooped collecting because the pandemic happened :(]

Not sure if anyone already said it. But the Japanese name is a play on the sound of "39" in Japanese (3 is 三 - mi and 9 is 九 - Kyu or ku) so 39's is like "Mikusu" which is not only "Miku" as in Hatsune Miku, but also as in "Mix"

I imported the limited edition from Amazon Japan (bought two copies -- one for me, one for my friend, so we both save a bit on shipping fees). Really enjoying it, but it was day and night when I switched the button icons to the PlayStation version (accessible in the Customization section, where you can change the characters' looks). Of course, there's always going to be missing songs, but in general, the song list is good. And it's basically a portable version of Project Diva Future Tone (the PS4 version of the arcade game), so no having to unlock songs to play them.

Also, how well have you gotten at the controls? Cause i remember first playing one of the earlier games. I really sucked at it so it took quite a while for me to get good at it. I recommend watching Hisokeees videos, they're what helped me get better at the game since he gives tons of good tips.

It's been a while for me, but I think the songs are unlocked right from the start. As for the season pass I would say play what the game has to offer first. There's enough songs to keep you happy for a while. If you think you need more then go for the season pass.

@@SwitchWatch I'm already sold on buying the English base game on May 15. But the option of buying it on a bundle has a big price difference compared to buying the DLC separately. With the US eshop cards on sale right now, I can buy the game + all DLC for a converted price total of 48 pounds 😁. Though I'm concerned that the dlc songs are not "cream of the crop" quality as compared to the base songs

I'm a long time fan of Hatsune Miku, but have never played the games. Since this game doesn't have much over Future Tone though, I'm sceptical to buy it (I own a switch, but not a PS4). Should I wing it or wait for PS5 to come out, buy that and enjoy Future Tone on there?

Well, the prime reason to get this over Future Tone would be portability. Having it in your hands rather than needing a TV is a surprisingly versatile option.

Future tone is the better package and you get a lot more of your money worth mega 39 charging 50 dollar season pass to get 36 songs future tone already has and future tone for a lot cheaper you get 224 songs plus buying the season pass is way cheaper as the season pass is only 20 dollars for future tone. Plus the new songs in this game will be future tone dlc

I think anyone who knows what Rhythm Heaven is would also be wise enough to know that Hatsune Miku has nothing to do with that game. I just thought it was an apt description for this fantastic game. Apologies for any confusion though.
