For years I've been checking out garage sales. Now I want to begin purchasing and reselling. DO you have any advice for starting out? I'm starting at garage sales and want to move up to thrift stores later in the year.
Traveling the country searching for deals at Thrift stores, discount centers, and even Walmart stores. That's got to be grueling hours of travel and expensive as well.
What's the strategy for selling one item on both Amazon and eBay at the same time and controlling purchase and getting item off the other site without getting yourself in trouble? Do you just chose one or both or what?
I like that you are creative. I was the chief news videographer at the local Fox affiliate in Little Rock, so I very keen on creativity< shooting and editing. Please keep up the creative ideas even if they are what we call 'corn'. lol It makes the videos standout from all the rest and that makes for a better channel. I think i could make a good news photog out of you, but i'd say don't quite your day job. What are you using to edit with, software and hardware? Are you just using a cell phone to shoot with?
That actually means a lot coming from an expert. I try to watch other videos and even tv shows to emulate different editing styles. I have zero experience doing editing before I started my channel so you'll noticed the videos get better and better each time. Do you have any tips or recommendations on different editing tricks I should try? I use my iPhone 6 to do all of my filming for the most part. Occasionally I'll do a pov with a GoPro hero 3+. I edit on windows movie maker so my options are limited. After the holidays I'm thinking I'll get final cut and a MacBook Pro to bring up the quality more.
You are welcome. I appreciate someone that tries and even though you don't really know how to do what you are doing, you are giving it a go. One of my best hires was a guy in a small college that sent me a very short clip of video from a fire academy. It was hardly anything, but he had a shot or two there that I could tell he had an eye--the ability to capture a good shot. So I gave him a chance and hired him. He was my personal project and I taught him everything: shot selection, lighting, audio, editing, interview skills, etc. He became one of my best shooters. He's the one I mentioned to you earlier that lives in Nashville. That was his goal to make it to Nashville as a news photographer. He's a good guy. Anyway, sounds like you are getting a pretty fair grasp of the basics. These type of videos of course are not for broadcast, so they are what we would call "run and gun". Pointers, hummm let me think. Some basics to always remember that will make the most plan video watchable are capture good audio, use good lighting and make sure your shot is set up well. So many RU-vidrs fail at one or more of these things in their videos and they are miserable to watch. If it's windy outside and you are shooting with a phone, more than likely your audio is going to have that annoying wind blowing over-powering what you are saying. Shot out of the wind either inside a building or car. Try to always have a good light source and always use what light is around you to your advantage. One of your early videos in your hotel room is a good example of this. The video with the wall of toner. You admitted that the lighting wasn't good. It was horrible, but not great. Usable. You made a joke of using the little lamp and why you didn't use it. You made the right decision. Never backlight yourself without a more powerful light in the front because that's what will always happen. The backlight will cause what you showed. So you did the best with what you had a the time and it worked. The other thing is always make sure you are showing what you intend to show. Many RU-vidrs shoot with a cell phone while doing the walk about in a store or dumpster diving and they never pay attention to what they are shooting. That is very annoying trying to see what they see, but never get a good shot. So always pay attention to that. Editing is a whole other area that you can either make your video great or really make it suck. I love editing and I love all the things that you can do with editing. I'll tell you though what I always told my photogs that worked for me. Simple basic cuts are best. Most everything you watch is edited with cuts. Other types of transitions like dissolves of which there are a zillion different types, wipes which there are a zillion of those too are only used for special meaning or purpose. One of the biggest mistakes of someone who doesn't have a lot of experience editing that gets a great editing software with all the bells and whistles and just starts using them all throughout their project. Huge mistake. You have to know the rules to break the rules. You are doing right by watching tv, movies and other videos to get ideas. Pick peoples brains like mine. Haha! That's what I did starting out. Learn the basics and use them along with a good narrative and you have the makings of a good video. Final Cut is a good program. It has come into its own. It originally was for the non-professional market and was priced for that making it accessible. Being that actually made it desirable for professionals to use as well. It was easy to learn, cheap and had the tools you needed to get the job done. Many news stations across the country still use it today. I've not used it, but it is similar to Adobe Premier Pro. That's what I used predominantly while in news. Never used a Mac. I'm a PC guy. I've never been overly impressed with the Mac products. I have many friends that swear by Mac though. The one thing that I don't like about Mac although is getting better is that there are programs that Mac can't run. Mac is too proprietary for my taste. I'm not a big iPhone fan either even though I've owned one for years. Go figure. The GoPro is a great camera and I would use it over your phone any day. There are endless attachments and gadgets that you can use with it to make great videos. I had two that we used in news when they first came on the market almost a decade ago. We used them to capture shots that you couldn't get using the big professional news cameras. The built in mic used to not be great, but ot horrible either. They are probably a lot better now. Anyway, get a GoPro handle or stick, a dash mount, cap or head mount and you have a chest mount. You should be set unless the built in mic is bad. I don't think they are though. Try using it more. This is getting way long, so let me PM you and give you my email. Keep up the great work.
Good video, but I'm gonna have to call BS on 2 things: No one is going to buy a baby einstein DVD for 60 bucks even brand new, and Guitar Hero guitars will not get you anywhere close to 50 bucks. 15 if you are lucky on craigslist and practically lose money selling online due to shipping costs unless you are adding it into a large system bundle.
Actually, the baby Einstein already sold. Someone else called BS and I showed them when it sold (should be somewhere in the comments) Also, $50 is the low end on guitar hero controllers. I sell them commonly for $80 and even as much as $150. Look them up on eBay and Amazon. Especially Xbox 360 or PS3 with the dongle. There are also listings where you can bundle them with the game (on Amazon) where they sell for even more. It's actually one of the most common items that resellers sell. Oddly enough, you're right, on Craigslist, you'd be lucky to get $15 for one. That's why I'll buy them up on CL and sell them on Amazon.
I don't think you can say that's what you made because the items haven't sold yet. How long do you think it will take to actually get your investment back
On average, 30% will sell the day it checks in and it'll be 80% gone within 2 weeks. Nearly everything will be sold within 2 months. I try to stick to fast turn items.
Ok. Seems ok I guess, just personally I feel like it take a little to long for some thing for the amount of profit involved. But if you can sale 80% in 2 weeks without anymore overhead or costs to you sounds pretty good. I sale on amazon electronic items that I buy wholesale. I make on a good day 1000 after fees but on a really bad day it can go down to 300-450. Awesome reply time.
+jason hernandez I don't do a whole lot of wholesale. I prefer thrifting because of the margins and RA because of the scalability. When I wholesale it's usually pallets of shelf pulls. I've been averaging around $1k per day sales over the last few months which is a huge improvement from when this video was uploaded.
I find your information very informative, but I have always been told if you have a great fishing spot you Never tell anyone, also if the people seeing this video work there they might realize there product is to low and mark it up.
in my experience, most people are watchers, not doers and the rabbit travels across the country so I doubt its much competition for him. Plus a lot of items are one time finds. :)
must be really nice to live somewhere that you can travel to 15 GW stores in a day! I could only go to 3 GW stores in a day because of travel distance between them.
rural maine! There are only 3 goodwill stores within 50 miles of my town. I have to travel over 2 hours away to get to the nearest "buy the pound" goodwill. Sometimes I go to that one and stay overnight at a hotel...make a mini vacation of it with the wife. At some point, if I want to really make $ at this, I will have to step into the world of OR.
+Resale Rabbit I started last month and I am selling my cloths and I only had sold a3 pieces can you give me one advice rabbit? I am not selling easy and you look so sure than you are going to make that money please advice me
where is the check with the profits at the end of the day that's what counts.... you could probably sit on that for years months days you never know.....
I base my quotes on historical sales data and competition. If there's a lot of competition or the item is a slow mover, I quote low. If it's limited competition or an item that will sell quickly, I quote current price. Of course I'm not perfect, but overall it's pretty accurate.
i do enjoy your videos but the single 45 hp cartridge sells for more like 6-10 bucks .. its expired i know i sell these type of things all the time......best wishes marc
i love all your videos man! I have a question, im getting into goodwill shopping myself and i wanted to know whats good and whats bad. what goes for alot on ebay. things like that. So if you time just message me back! thank you.
I don't sell at all on eBay anymore, but the best things to put there are unique and one of a kind items, wholesale lots, and defective items being sold for parts.
+247ebay how so? Guitar hero is gold. Some sell as much as $100. Look them up on Amazon. I go on the listing with the game and guitar and they sell quick! Especially the Xbox 360 units.
Resale Rabbit hey I don't really get how this works how do u make sure your stuff sells , like if it doesn't you would be wasting money so how do u reassure a sell?
He scans this stuff on his phone and the prices are the lowest the particular item is going for on Eba or Amazon. If some one has a comparable item lower is is already SOLD.
Why did you entitle this video "I made $763 in one day." We both know that is not true. You BOUGHT merchandise that you hope to eventually sell and maybe make that much if you are very patient and stubborn with your prices but you did not come close to making $763 in one day. Some merchandise, you will sit on for months. That is an untruthful claim and very nice clickbait.
when you operate at such a high scale you can't afford to care about pissant shit like whether you sell stuff right away. The point is $763 of profit is going in the pipeline, and it doesn't matter when it sells.
Mark Johnson here's a good tip! You and your friends will put you out of business, you don't buy stuff that you like personally you buy stuff that others like. That's how you make money on Amazon like he said look at the sales rank for these items it clearly will tell you the items is are selling!
Can you do a follow of video with actual numbers once items sell. I enjoy the education but you are just giving pre assumed values . Just curious what actual margins are.
Holy crap that's a lot of Goodwill stores. I mostly get my best hauls at salvation army and Goodwill. I wish there were more Goodwill stores, but for now I keep looking for new stores. Best item from today. 7 for all mankind jeans brand new. Retails for just about $200. Can't wait to list it. Love the videos. Got yourself a new subscriber.
And I only spent $600 of that $649 on all the gas money I spent going from town to town to town to town looking for these items...SCORE !!! Just kidding
I live in Phila., pa and flipped a 24 piece candle set I bought brand new $7.99 made $30 plus the customer paid shipping. nobody believes me. I need a scanning app that will scan product without barcode. Does anyone know one? Even if I have to pay subscription if I can flip and make a huge profit it be worth it. stuffed animals and jewelry figurines.
I have a goodwill store very close to me that sells things for stupidly cheap. The workers are volunteers. Each purchase you get 3 free vhs tapes. Every video game is $1 each no matter what. Most things like board games and toys are under $1.
Rabbit ... you find a good deal of used items, and older items. Yet all seems like great ROI. Is that a good approach...look for older stuff? I see you getting ink..doesnt ink get too old to be usable?
You didn't make $763. You bought a load of stuff and valued it at that price. That isn't the same as actually making money. You have made $0 until you actually sell it.
I hate it when people get on youtube and say they made money before it's actually sold. However, there's good money to be made if you buy the right stuff.
Hook Me Up Ken you're obviously not an experienced reseller. You don't make money until you find a buyer who's willing to pay the price you want. That's not perspective, that's fact.
That may be the case, Ken, but until you've actually sold anything, you've lost money. I notice that he isn't posting videos documenting his huge profit on all this stuff. I suspect that if he was making so much money, he probably wouldn't be making RU-vid videos for the ad revenue. Just a thought.
I understand what you are saying, however, he is just speaking from experience and many experienced sellers, see inventory more as an investment in capital than a loss because they have lots of experience with turning that capital into cash flow, being familiar with the types of products, ranking etc. I really think too much is being made about all this, those of us into reselling online understand his intent etc. The Rabbit is one of the best out there and has tons of free info to learn from to get your own reselling business started if that is what you want to do. If not, then feel free to pursue whatever business model you choose. :) Also, He doesn't need defending, his business did like about 800k in sales 2016. He has a warehouse and workers with pallets of product that come to the warehouse and doesn't need to go out and thrift on his own anymore unless he just wants to. Most of us enjoy the hunt for good deals all in itself! :) Also, I studied internet marketing for a couple years before I jumped into ebay/Amazon and Internet marketers know that add revenue from youtube videos isn't much at all unless you have like tons and tons of subscribers and views etc....at best its a little supplemental income for most Internet marketers and not much to speak of at all for most. However, the Rabbit puts together good quality videos and content along with many others such as Raiken Profit, The Green Room and a ton of others out there so if they make a little extra coffee money on the side creating good content...i say Go for it! :)
Ok but how much did you make actually selling it? Not what it would sell for? Because I got a video game and the sell price is like $40 but i have no profit because it hasn’t sold yet...
You my friend are goals I can't wait for the thrift store to open back up after this covid 19 I will go cover up of course grab 60 games clean them with Lysol and ship them
Resell Rabitt your awesome. You inspire me to make more $$$$☺Thank you for ur awesome videos buddy.Keep those videos a comming!☺☺☺Have a great day Rabbit.☺
I work and feel like that isn't comparable as it is physical work but I do make good money. I like to see what others make thrifting to resell. I do sell things and am getting back to selling on ebay again. I sold alot years ago. I stopped at a walmart today to get a hand brace to protect my broken thumb. Hubby wanted to look at the $5 mark down shoes..there was a section for $1 shoes! I bought all four pairs of the cool pattern which are a name brand and left the others. I can sell them for $10 each on ebay minimum. I looked it up already and that took me 2 minutes to look, consider and put em in my basket. One stop and there they are. I do find awesome deals at a local senior thrift store and other thrift stores besides Goodwill. However Goodwill has the biggest inventory of the thrift stores....sadly the ones they have in our state do not help the community like others do or at least the ones in our area do not
I don't think it's too far out of your way, but check out the goodwill in Marion. I've always had great luck there. They do sell their books online though.
I read 8 or more negative comments. Well believe it or not all those items that he picked up Will sell on Ebay. Believe it or not he will make a profit. The video was GOOD too.
Not to bash you but your counting a few chicken eggs before they hatch, I know those items will sell but I wouldn't count them until sold and you have the money in hand or bank.
4:10 it is a "clicker" used in colleges to answer quiz questions. I bought 44 of them from an outlet for ~.10c each years ago. Great AZ item for $20 used each.
You didn't "make" $763......you assume the items are worth that much based on eBay numbers.....That's not how this works, that's not how any of this works. What was your actual profit after paying for gas? $20-40
I mean if you get off on traveling around going to Goodwill then good for you but you're lucky (in this video at least) that so many people donated ink cartridges that have probably been sitting around for years. You don't have to rub how much you ANTICIPATE to make in viewer's faces, though since as others mentioned there will be countless hours spent listing crap, etc. as well as all the time and energy you spent traveling to find junk.
no wonder I can't find anything in gw indy. I guess at Michigan SA that's where it's at. One due keeps posting how he finds brand new items every single day with tags high end brand name clothing and buys for $5-$6.00 each. I want to visit one day Michiigan SA and GW maybe u should go there and make a video.
Its more like obtaining gold that is worth a certain amount but isn't yet in cash form so you can buy things yet...but you know the value of the gold. So when a reseller buys product that has a certain profit value to it, its similar to having gold in your pocket just waiting to cash it in. :)
lol, the stores that you didn't find much at are the stores that I frequent. At store number one (the Nora store) say hi to Matt the store manager. He also just had a baby.
What’s your average weekly net income after taxes, fees, & shipping/gas? Do you work a FT, PT, Or contract jobs aside from thrift/flipping? Good luck and keep up the videos.
They asked if u were a senior. hahahahahahaha talk about judgement. Must be all the gmo products America is consuming. You appear early 30 ishhh! Btw cool video!!!!!!!!!
all the stuff already sold by the end of the video WOW GREAT JOB BUT if it didint ell right then u didint make 600 dollars in 9 hours u have 600 worth of inventory in 9 hours u hve let to make cash of ur purchase
Fancies goodwill stores I've ever seen! Ones in Denver are pretty rough. I find waaaay better stuff though! Ever heard of antiques?..much more money to be made than trying to flip old dvds.
Hey quick question I haven't used amazon how do you use it? Is it free? And I've heard of people "scanning" items to see how much they are worth how is this done. Thanks this video was interesting
Cool video! Pretty good items you found. How do you how fast your item will sell once sent to Amazon? Once you find an item & it meets the profit minimum. How do you calculate how long does it takes to sell on Amazon before you rack up on storage fees?
Its weird how they asked if you were a senior lol! I got asked that too and I am only 40. I was very concerned but now having learned of your experience, not so much lol. I think its like some rule they have to just automatically ask everyone no matter what.
I am a new subscriber. Just wanted to say your videos are awesome so keep them coming. If you come to Delaware or South jersey let me know, it would be cool to thrift with you.
I really appreciated this video! I am about 4 months into flipping and I source primarily from Goodwill. It's always good to learn about more stuff to look for!
What time and day is the best day to go thrifting in your opinion? I find that it's better to not bother with sales and Saturday because everyone and their mother is there cleaning the place out.
