Seeing this makes me miss towing. It's weird, now that I have all this training, knowledge and experience I am no longer physically capable of doing the job. I thought about working in management but then I woke up. I don't need the stress anymore.
Yes I thought of that back in 2005 for all three set up also use king ping to put on bottom n rhook it to the truck to pick it up along with safety chain to secure truck ii wish I knew somebody to talk too to patent it
No offense, but you are incorrect on how you tow with the Kingpin attachment, but your fifth wheel attachment and hook up looked pretty good. They have a video on Miller Industries page that shows the proper towing technique with the kingpin attachment.
Yeah I've never seen any trailer with the fifth wheel plate upside down and on the trailer itself, You can, however, use that kingpin attachment with that setup but upside down to haul a truck with a fifth-wheel plate backward by lifting it with the kingpin.
With the reach so far out, it seems that too much weight would be transferred from the steering of the tow truck. And it would put added stress on the reach extend cylinder and frame. Assuming the trailer is at full weight. Or sucking in the reach would be a bonus in making turns and making a shorter truck and trailer would be better for travel. Right???
+Andrew Brenneman One thing I think I failed to mention is that, with this single axle Pete, we only haul empty trailers, so the weight wasn't an issue and we could steer. And yes a shorter truck would make it easier to turn but then you'd run into the same problem you mentioned in the first place...no steering.
Exactly Andrew, also the rear axle is way back not centered under the bed. That gives you plenty of weight distribution between your stinger and the front trailer axle.
