Haha, that truck doesn’t work and spends her days in the barn! It’s also not the least bit comfortable, only enjoyable to drive for short Sunday outing type stuff
Rob, we have chatted a bit about my kodiak with the 5.9. I found another l10 pretty clean with jakes. Good price. My only concern on fitment is the fan is so far out there like 13 inches from front of head to block. Engine measures 53 inches from back of head to front of fan. I have 50 without cutting farther back into cab floor. Are you aware of any shorter fan set ups I can cut in the floor if needed just didn’t want to set engine that far back ?
Nothing I’m specifically aware of- I’m pretty sure the Louisvilles all have the longer fan hub on the L10 because Ford used common rear motor mount locations between motors, but the L10 was also common in larger S series Internationals and some Volvo/Whites so you might start with those in boneyards
I got this bulldog brand from e-trailer. They have a number of options depending on the coupler on your trailer. www.etrailer.com/Gooseneck-and-Fifth-Wheel-Adapters/Bulldog/BD0289640300.html
How does it haul compared to your F450 in the ball park 20k on deck of trailer. Does it have plenty of power. How well does it pull hills with that much weight? Rough fuel mileage?
Honestly it’s comparing apples and oranges. With that weight load, the 450 pulls harder, accelerates faster, gets slightly better mileage and stops just as good. The 450 can gross 40k up an average grade at 70 mph, whereas the Ford will have to drop a gear and be at 50-55. That’s the difference of a 475 horse automatic vs a 325 horse manual. The L10 roughly gets me 6-6.5 grossing 40k whereas the powerstroke will get 9. The L10 has plenty of power for its weight and what I’m pulling, with my new trailer I’m grossing 50-55k depending what’s on the deck. If I was pulling 70 or 80 I’d want a tandem with 450+ horse. I hear a lot of talk about folks switching to a medium or heavy truck to pull rv’s and trailers in the 10-26k range, and I think they’ll all be disappointed. At those weights you don’t need it and they’ll be slow and harder to maneuver. If you’re comparing that to a 30 year old 1 ton then sure, it’s a win, but modern diesel pickups will dominate every category at those kinds of weights, it’s just a numbers game.
