If you have a decent vessel and are have way competent haulover shouldn’t be the end of the world. It’s the throttle jockeys with terrible timing that are having a bad time lol
@@nswiss19751 yeah your not wrong. After finding out I was a boat lover I started checking prices on the ones I like.... Won't be getting one anytime soon. If ever..😂😂😂😂
@@nswiss19751 I spent 7 minutes researching those 4 engine fishing yachts thinking I could sell out and live on one. I could afford the boat, but I wouldn't be able to drive it anywhere. I think the fuel to go 100 miles was like 350 gallons.
Or maybe... just maybe, most of them have not crossed haulover before and they weren’t expecting those waves. Kinda more realistic than the money/brains remarks.
New to boating whats the right thing to do in these conditions other than not to go out in the water. Im on a lake so i dont think it will happen but im curious
Hugo Hernandez most these guys trim their motors up 25% or so and keep the boat just off-plane. This keeps the bow in the air and stops you from submarining. It’s not fuel efficient by any means but it’ll keep your bow out of the waves.
Holy Moly ... that first situation is just plain ... child endangerment in my opinion! I literally couldn't watch. What the hell is the matter with people?
These people have no common sense. Even for a grown-up it is challenging if you drop in. Big waves, boats everywhere and you being invisible for them. Can you picture losing a small child there?
Wrong speeds for the sea state, too slow in many cases, people are way over their head and have no business being out there, many kids were put at risk.
@@mikemiller3927 You're usually right about those keyboard warriors. Except I have been driving boats for 16 years, so I kind of know what I'm talking about.
“Loca” esta muy loco! Kids crying, moms screaming, crews hanging on for dear life, skipper just ignores it all. What bothers me most is the fact many of these small boat Skippers turning a 180 inside the inlet without clearing the turn, move your head before initiating the turn. Better yet, exit the inlet before going back. You’ve committed to going out in the ocean, so do it, or stay inside!
@Juji-Gatame I was commenting on skippers not clearing the way before turning, you can’t just turn when you feel like it. Better to make sure there are no other boats coming up from behind, they come fast. A good skipper knows the limit of his weighted vessel and should make the “go-no go” decision before entering the inlet. Be safe.
20 years ago I fished a 16.7 foot Whaler Montauk up to 15 miles into the Gulf of Mexico. I had encountered stand up sea at inlets like this & navigated safely through them, but you need to be trained how to do so. I proved several times that a Whaler will not sink when filled with gulf water like when the boat takes a wave over the bow. I always had my PFD on & i was tethered to the boat by a life line just in case.
Mystery Boat 2 did a nice job of keeping his bow up and powering through. The rest of these "captains" either slowed down or kept the same speed when they started to porpoise. GET YOUR DAMN BOW UP!!
HOLY COW, Batman! The boat at 7:12, I thought for sure it was going to flip/roll over and trap everyone. I am amazed there aren't multiple deaths per day in that inlet, given how many captains SUCK and have no clue how to operate a boat in the ocean.
It's for when up on full plane you can see past the bow. My 18ft grew on full plane has a huge blindspot in front of the boat where if my bow curved down it wouldnt
@@lyman135 what? He asked why they design the curved down bow riders. I'd rather be caught in rough waters in my Canadian made Grew than one of those bow riders that are on the verge of being swamped
The Boston Whaler was going slow and was tossed around, then they added power and seemed to handle it better. With a closed bow he should shed off most of the over the bow water. Unlike the first boat that acted like a water scoop. Same for the closed bow @ 6:50. Good video grandma and I will sit this one out.
:23 Blows my mind these kids have no life jackets on especially driving like that!! They probably haven’t boated much, I wouldn’t own a boat that small living in that area!
Open Bow riders have no place in seas like that. they are for posing on flat water. Small ribs excepted since they float up in the bow more to keep it up.
Great footage, the section ahead of the help position/screen should have a deck not seating unless flat calm and I hate multiple outboards hanging off the stern, structurally wrong!
How is it wrong? Do you even know how many boats are designed to come from the factory with twins, triples, quads etc? “Structurally” built specifically for it?
Baja slammed trough it with 4 adults (no life jackets course 😉 ) in the bow. Damn my standards dropped after al these inlet vids. Still enjoying myself though. Thanx Wavy Boats!
