Man, Lakeith Stanfield is something special. It doesn’t matter what type of role it is, he brings a quality that is just different. He does his own thing and it always just works. Pretty much the definition of “it” factor.

Fun Fact the Crump Mansion is based on Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom’ Haunted Mansion ride facade. And of course, the main mansion is from Disneyland.

Here's my take on Haunted Mansion. I don't see this as a reboot, I see this as another Haunted Mansion in the same universe. This entire world is filled with haunted mansions so the next movie could be in Europe, Japan, Mexico or wherever interesting.

This was a movie I saw in theatres and the audience response was totally positive. Another comment was asking why they chose to release in August, and I absolutely agree with them on that - this movie DESERVED an October release more than anything. Hopefully, someone gets the inspiration to make a movie based off the French version of the ride - follows a very sinister plotline like this film does.

Plus it came out the WEEK after Barbenheimer. It didn't stand a chance. An October or heck even a late September release would have been so much better. I also saw this in theaters and genuinely enjoyed it. I swear though at my screening I saw two people walk out of the movie which disappointed me.

I didn't know much about this at all or that it even existed really, but I love Owen Wilson now after watching Loki and been watching some of his older stuff and I just love his vibe and humor and of course his voice. I liked this just because of him haha

I LOVE the Eddie Murphy version! Most people dont because its not accurate to the ride and the story doesnt make complete sense but the characters are so likeable and the overall vibe is just so much fun.

This movie was really good. I still love the Eddie Murphy version, but this one was pretty cool. I'm glad that this movie had a good story and that it had a balance of comedy and some tragic seriousness in it. I also love that it gave the Park ride a lot of justice.

Fun fact: the Hatbox Ghost was never meant to be as popular as he turned out to be on the ride. At one point, the animatronic was removed from the mansion, either because it needed to be replaced or have maintenance done on it, either way, Disneyland probably did not think that people would know it was missing. However, people DID notice, and they would often say they remember a ghost animatronic in the attic that would scare the ever-living crap out of them due to how he just seemed to come out of nowhere. It is also said that he was responsible for causing one rider to have a heart attack. They did not know the name of this ghost, all they knew was that there was an effect that made it seem like his head would disappear from his body and reappear in the hatbox he was holding, hence why they gave him the name "Hatbox Ghost". Disneyland realized how popular he had become and reinstalled him some years later. The movie version, Alistair Crump, was actually named after one of the creators and animators of the Disneyland Haunted Mansion ride, Rolly Crump. There is no evidence suggesting the ride version is evil, in fact, he seems more mischievous than anything else. Fans of the ride have also given him the nickname "Hattie".

as someone who’s favorite ride ever is the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland… this was so much fun. from the score matching that of the ride, the reference to the ride, and the light heartedness of it… if this movie was released in October (like it deserved) it would be talked about so much more. all in all a fun movie.

I saw this last night and was pleasantly surprised. The trailer did not do the movie justice. I thought it was going to be Goosebumps 2 silly, but it was more Casper 1993 silly. I enjoyed it.

Oh man I've been dying for you to watch this! (No pun intended) The Haunted Mansion is my personal favorite Disney attraction. I literally call my son cause the ride is a classic piece of Imagineering history. When this movie was announced I was overly hyped cause I was still groaning over the Eddie Murphy version and even though it's nostalgic it was an absolute disaster. That one didn't feel like THE Haunted Mansion so Disney definitely needed to take another swing and I think they hit the home run with this one. This had a much better and more compassionate story and I definitely had my eyes open for all of the easter eggs. This cast was just so damn perfect they literally brought their A-game to this. While the inclusion of Jared Leto is debatable he really nailed the Hatbox Ghost he was really terrifying. 35:54 Speaking of easter eggs I'm surprised you didn't catch that the Crump Mansion has the same exterior of the Haunted Mansion at Disney World and that's the version of the ride I go to all the time as a Floridian.

Took my gf to see it for a date night. Being from England, I’ve only been to Disney once when I was like 7 or something so I have no memory or attachment to the ride, and I’ve never seen the og Eddie Murphy film, so I went in completely blind and it was actually a lot better than I expected. It made my gf cry multiple times (Ik ik 😅) because of the love story between LaKeith’s character and his wife, and how much he missed her.

I really enjoy this film! I am the nerd that knows history and deep cut information about haunted mansion, and the amount of details of its history and Easter eggs were incredible. The DisneyWorld one has the captain ghost referred to in the line queue, and Allister’s home (exterior) is what the DisneyWorld one looks like. So I appreciate them incorporating both houses. Gracey and Krump were names of the original imagineers of the ride. I am impressed they were able to have a story flow as well as it did while having all this information involved. ❤️ I also love that Jaimie Lee Curtis was involved in this film because her parents have a connection to the ride. Her father worked directly with the narrator (ghost host) of the ride in another project, and her mom was in the movie psycho which the Disneyland Paris version of the ride based the house exterior off of.

True: five members of my family have had ghost experiences, but none of us ever "saw" a ghost. It was all footsteps, things moving or being thrown, glass "cracking" without any damage, knocking or scratching noises, a cold-producing someone "sitting" on an occupied bed. These were various incidents from about 1944 up to about 9 years ago.

Even though many movies make me emotional nowadays (must be my age, I don't know), I did not go into this movie expecting to cry! I thought this cast was exceptional, the visuals were gorgeous, and the writing was great! I did not get that the father was dead, either, until the scene in the car with the book and pen. Gabby did not elaborate what happened earlier, just that something horrible happened. I did immediately understand that it was Crump, though, because it was the same trick he played on Gracey.

So actually from my knowledge when the Haunted Mansion ride stops it is usually because there is a disabled person and since the rides are on a moving track as you see when you enter the Doombuggy,. So they have to stop it temporarily for the person to enter.

I love this movie and everything and for the record that "fisherman" is better known as The Mariner, Death by drowning at sea in storm. I love a good tale of how they died and then became ghosts even the hatbox ghost story one.

In the ride, The Hatbox Ghost never really had an official backstory, he had one or two but they were never canon or official. Some fans of the ride are fine with him being an evil spirit, but others disagree, believing he's not meant to be depicted as evil but rather more mischievous.

One of the best Disney live movies ever! It’s soo good cause I think Jamie helps produce it, I’ve got that print on my shirt too! It’s awesome!! Also notice that when you go on the ride at Disney they have all the jokes on the tombstones like crump had on the ones beneath the house, this movie was released early in August in the UK on the 11th it only came out on the 28th in the USA

The batteries died because of the ghosts. Lol he definitely charged it. Battery drain happens in super haunted places. That was the first clue that Ben missed. Also it’s a hat box ghost so his head goes in a hat box. There are elements from the Phantom manner from Paris and Crumps house, the 2nd house you said looked cool, is the Haunted mansion in Walt Disney World. I loved this movie. Fun fact this ride was supposed to be a walk through attraction in the beginning.

One reason the Haunted Mansion stops more than other rides is because of the non-stop nature of the doom buggies. Occasionally someone may have trouble getting out of them fast enough due to disabilities, etc. and need a bit of extra time or assistance.

❤ i absolutely enjoyed this movie, especially more than the eddie Murphy version even though i grew up with that one first. I loved the way they talked about grief and losing someone, and the end having the classic song but with a new Orleans twist was great

Disney REALLY sabotaged this film It's a fun movie, better than the 2003 version in every way, and honor's the attraction it's based on, but it couldn't compete with Barbenheimer and it should've been an October release film, in line with Halloween

They dropped it in the Summer so they could release it on Disney+ in October. They need content for the Halloween season. They did the same thing with Hocus Pocus last year.

I haven't been to Disneyland and tried that ride, but that didn't prevent me from enjoying this movie. I wasn't confused about the ghosts either. They gave us a quick explanation of their past and it was enough for me. I had a lot of fun watching it. It's a great Halloween movie. The only thing that really bothered me was that I would have liked to see more of the other characters of the main group, like the priest and Rosario's character.

Ok to compare this movie to the Eddie Murphy version without any major spoilers. This movie hits an emotional core that enables you to look past some of its weaker parts and it makes the experience enjoyable as an adult. Lakeith Stanfield was also able to convey the emotional weight of the film really well. The Eddie Murphy version doesn't have that emotional core and Eddie Murphy couldnt carry it like Lakeith Stanfield could. Eddie's version also focuses more on comedy than it does on spookiness. The other thing is the Eddie Murphy version came out a year after the first Pirates of the carribbean movie and keeping that in mind I'd be interested to see how you guys can pick up the headspace Disney corporate was at in producing that movie.

I know this is probably nitpicky, but I won't lie. Considering how into The Haunted Mansion she is, I was really hoping she would recognize The Ghost Host, but oh well. The male ghost with the hatchet, and the one who possesses the main guy (at 30:00) and you see around the chandelier is billed as "The Hatchet Ghost" I think, but he's canonically The Ghost Host. I'm not sure where his portrait is in Disneyland but in WDW it's in the queue and right after the doors that are knocking on their own. He's been called "The Hatchet Man" but Disney has confirmed he's the Host. If you look at his portrait and a close up version of the hanging skeleton in the stretching room their clothes are the same, plus he has a cut noose around his neck and is holding a hatchet in his portrait. It's taken them years, but he's finally starting to appear on official merch and I'm living for it! Sorry, he's my favorite character and I'm always ready to info dump about him. Also, I'm sure someone else mentioned it, but originally Haunted Mansion was supposed to be a walk through, but they had the issue of how to make people look at what they wanted them to look at. In comes the omnimover ride system, which fixed that problem and would be able to get more people through faster.
