The hospital was completed in 1987 by the late Lebanese businessman and Prime Minister (Rafic Hariri) and he donated it to the Saudi Ministry of Health, but this donation was not documented in the Saudi Ministry of Health. It was used as a residence for Kuwaiti families during the Iraqi invasion of 1990-1991 AD, and after that, Irqa Hospital was opened and operated from 1993-2000. It had outpatient clinics, operations departments, hospitalization patients, housing for medical and nursing staff, and recreational facilities. However, it was closed and abandoned in 2001.
