Such a lovely green mossy place. The burbling brook singing merrily, no doubt the breeze carrying the scent of spring flowers, the dappled sunlight filtering sweetly beneath the trees, an old stone bridge, and You there finding delightful treasures...what a perfect day...my cup of happiness made full! Thank you for sharing!
I think if I go back, I'll go looking for that old stone bridge... I'm sure there must be one either a bit further upstream, or downstream... it was a lovely little place, I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂
@@tomburleigh9261 I may have imagined the old stone bridge, but it seemed just the thing to match the beauty of that place. Thank you for taking us on such a lovely wander.
I thought it beautiful too... and I want to go back again and explore more, take more time over the pottery sherds, and the hillside befor the tunnel. 🙂
I certainly live in the middle of some beautiful locations... one day I shall film some of my local woods and rivers, they are gorgeous and peaceful, although there are very few old man made things to focus any filming of them. 🙂
Thanks Gail and Alex... I wonder if that leg will still be there after months of lock-down; if it doesn't rain much there's a chance. 🙂 Thanks to you too, for all your lovely videos x
Wonderful surprise to see another video and thoroughly absorbing as usual...the perfect combination of relaxation and intrepid anticipation!....take care and stay safe 😊
Thanks Deb, it certainly is a strange and beautiful little enclave; hemmed in by roads and hidden by trees... a bit of a lost world feel about it; and maybe a bit of magical light pouring in. 🙂 I hope I can go back fairly soon.
Thanks Kathy, I agree... it's an oddity too, a dumpsite up river of any notable population center, about a mile up from the nearest small vilage. I can't quite imagine what led to it being there; in such a beautiful little valley. 🙂
Mr. Burleigh...your videos are a soothing happy place I visit often this last week since I discovered you. Wonderful narration, enchanting vocabulary. You might consider a side job with Audible or similar. Your mudlarking has inspired me to start on my own here in Vancouver. It won't be as exciting as yours but the hunt is most of the fun & I've already visited new places in my city I didn't previously know of. Please do continue to show us your creations, like the octo-girl. Fabulous. Appreciate you!
Tom, this site is truly magical to look at and listen to. Love the water sounds. You do find some very interesting sites to wander around and look for treasure. Thanks for a very interesting video. you keep safe. 💦💧💦💧💦💧💦💧💦💧💦💧💦💧💦💧💦💧💦💧💦💧💦
Thanks Marina, I agree... there was a feeling of magic about the light and the sounds of that place, perhaps it's permanent and will be there when I return... hopefully not just the right time at the right place for filming. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you're keeping safe and healthy too. 🙂
Really enjoyed your walk along such a lovely stream and picturesque hildsides! Your finds, such as some differently shaped bottles and doll body parts were a nice bonus!
Thank you for the day out. Your voice and strolling through the forest is so soothing. I feel like I really left home for the afternoon. So many bottles and so much damage to the trees. Be careful and Stay Safe. 🦋
Thank you for taking us along with you. Lovely video. Once again there were so many bottles that I would have taken that I probably wouldn't have been able to carry them all!
Thankyou for sharing your larking Tom. Be careful in places where others have been digging. They have not been considerate of trees or people there. Trees might topple on people & people might fall down holes. It is disappointing to see such lack of consideration. An interesting search. I find myself absolutely fascinated by the patterns & shapes made by flowing, rippling, trickling, gushing, rushing, spraying, dropping, splashing water.
Thanks Sarah; there's always a chance of an accident happening while out; although I'm careful and pay attention to my surroundings; have kept safe so far (apart from a few very minor falls, scrapes, bruises, the usual 🙂). I love the patterns and shapes, the sounds and burbling life of water too 🙂
Thanks for another relaxing meander. You do find some real beauty spots. It does make my blood boil though when I see what other bottle hunters selfishly leave behind with no care or thought for others or wildlife.
Thanks NutsAboutNature. I am lucky to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It's certainly selfish of some bottle diggers; ruining the local environments, and making things harder for other more considerate diggers. I'd like to dig for bottles some day; but getting permission is hard because of Rogue night raiding diggers.
What an exciting new place to hunt, with stream too! This place is like a dream to me. Thank you ever so much for recording and sharing this experience - very much appreciated. Take care
Tom Burleigh thanks for the reply. We are doing ok here. It’s good to see the communities pull together under such difficult times. Hope you and your loved ones are well 👍. We look forward to your next video.
Tom -- You were very fortunate to get the revelation of that location. Loved your shout-outs to the other Larkers today...Simon, Phil, and Kate. As always, you make it interesting to tag along with your wry observations. Gorgeous spot that I hope you will revisit in future with us in tow.
Yes, I'm lucky that I've met a few nice people out who've been happy to share information... it seems to be a hobby which doesn't attract people who jealously guard their locations. I'm hoping to re-visit this location when I can, and explore a bit downstream and up. 🙂
Oh wow! What a brilliant mudlark! I finally got chance to watch and enjoy, hoping it would ease my mudlarking withdrawal. No chance of that, it made me want to go even more lol Wonderful finds and you are right, Phil would have loved it there. So many things, but I think my favourite was that knob and metal off a bedstead or fence :)
Thanks Eddiek, I'm looking forward to finding out about the pipe bowl too when I get home; it said something like Gambiene on one side, which suggests an African connection, but made in Paris.... strange colour of clay too. 🙂 Hope you're staying safe and healthy too.
Your voice is definitely one of the most soothing voices that I have heard. I am fortunate in that my husband has a very similar voice and people have always commented and complimented him about it. He also has a Scottish burr which makes is even nicer. If I could bottle his voice and sell it I would be rich!
I do love a nice Scotish accent; my girlfriend can do one (lived there for years), and with a bit of practice I could probably do one too... I think it might be needed if I ever try to do a reading of some Robbie Burns poems. You're very lucky, perhaps you can persuade him to do some audiobook readings; it's about as close to being able to bottle a voice and sell it as possible. 🙂
Can I just say how much I've enjoyed your videos lately. I've been binge watching mudlarking videos since Christmas and I must admit, your dark and witty commentary speaks to me more than most. I can really appreciate that you see beauty and usefulness in such a variety of things. The artist in me can also relate in that way as well. Just wanted to say thank you, and I look forward to more of what you find.
What a happy coincidence to meet up with a fellow/lass who shared this location with you! Such an idyllic area: mossy rocks, river-worn pebbles, treasures of all types, and a sense of timelessness. Thank you for clearing away the trash. May not seem like much, but it does add up. Thank you for the journey. I hope it gave you the peace and relaxation that it gave to me. Best wishes from Florida.
Reminds me of a place from my childhood Tom. A woodland stream, lots of wildlife (from frog spawn to froglets, that we took home, which then escaped into my grandma's garden, she nearly had a heart attack!) A wonderful place! I do hope you'll return to this place soon Tom, it really is a special place. xxx stay safe xx love to you and your family from chez in lliria Valencia Spain
WHAT A GREAT MORNING! Sat down to drink my coffee, turned on RU-vid, and there it was - a new Tom Burleigh video. Coffee in one hand, cat being held with the other, watching the beautiful English countryside and listening to Tom's soothing voice - it just does get better as a start to my day. :)
Thank you, yes... we're both coping reasonably well. I'm probably doing less well because I can't stop from wanting to be out exploring in the rivers. Thankfully we can both still go for walks. 🙂
What a wonderful surprise to come in from clearing blackberry brambles from the fence line, working in my greenhouse and garden to finally sit down with my coffee and find an adventure waiting! And you did all the walking because I was tired! A beautiful scenic lark...I thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🙂 I wish blackberry brambles grew better in the woods behind my house, it would make it much easier to forage them come berry time 🙂
It's *lovely* when you tilt the camera upwards so we can see your surroundings, especially for those of us who are city-bound. Thank you for removing the poisonous lead - good of you! Great to hear that you are well :-)
Aw, thank you... I don't know of many people who do upwards camera tilts in mudlarking videos, but I do lark in some places where it seems the best way to really show off the scenery. 🙂 I'm still in lock-down, but managing to keep busy. I hope you're keeping safe and well too.
Ah, but you have the Thames and the Seaside close to you... so I'm Extremely jealous too 😃 I'm keeping safe and healthy, and happy a good proportion of the time. I hope you and your family are coping well too. 🙂
That's good to know... sorry I had to shorten the intro music in this video; there were fewer editing options I could use than usual. I'm glad my videos can calm you (and other people)... makes me feel like I'm helping. 🙂
Ah, the wonderful music of the rushing water, one of my favorite sounds...and your voice, another of my favorites! I miss the days of all tea pot spouts, what has happened to all of them, I wonder. Lovely bottles, just loved the small one with the stopper still in it. I just know you will find your intact cod bottle and I can't wait! We don't have those in the states. We do love our Mason jars though, the blue ones are old and hard to find. Til next time take care my friend and keep tight to those you love.
The great Teapot spout migration of Autumn 2019, they all seemed to leave, and no-one was paying attention to where they went. Maybe they'll be back one day, who knows? I'm glad you enjoyed this video; it's certainly a lovely spot and probably worth a re-visit when lock-down is over. 🙂 Til next time, keep safe and well, I hope you and your loved ones come through this OK.
Not much call for the blue Mason's here so I gave mine away to a lady that still cans with them. If I knew you would have wanted them I would have shipped them to you.
Welcome to the channel 🙂 I hope you continue getting enjoyment from my videos after the craziness is done... but if not I'm glad they're providing a little escape for now.
Very much enjoyed the video. Very much didn't like the destructive diggers. Dig away but fill in your holes those of you who leave such a mess. I happen to love bubbling brooks and little streams so I thank you for your video :) Stay safe :)
Looks like a promising spot for finds! I think you should definitely go back. (If only for the doll's leg) 🤦🏼♀️ It appears a section of the stream bottom and sides were cobbled. @10:14 So pretty; moss, nettles and cress.
Yes, I'd very much like to go back there after lock-down. I think the stream bottom and sides were cobbled around the bits that go under roads; so there's nothing for things to catch on and create blockages... which could compromise the structures. I meant to forage some of the watercress before I left; completely forgot. Oh well... plenty of it around. 🙂
Hello Tom, I watched all of your videos from top to bottom. Your videos have come a long way from when you first started your channel. I'm looking forward to watching any new videos when all this chaos of the virus comes to a close or at least slows down enough for you to get back out to do what you like doing. Thank you for your videos, they are really enjoyable to watch.
I would of liked to see more of the glass and trash in the area .It had more stuff laying around than any site I've seen in a long time . You know what you want and collect it , and I understand . I cannot go to such a place , if I could I'd spend all day wandering around . Bring a sack lunch . Go home when the sun sets . I look forward to all the mud larking videos . Thank you for sharing time .
Afraid I had very limited battery life, and limited time; it was about 5:30pm I arrived, and Sunset was at about 6:30pm. I do hope to go back there sometime when lock-down has been lifted and film something longer... I want to explore more and perhaps take some of the broken bottles to cut down. 🙂
@@lunakatt429 Laying usually refers to something that is placed; lying when it is resting or reclining. I'm not sure I'm so precise in my language as to use them correctly every time. 🙂
Hi Tom, so glad you got such a good video from this place. I saw that crazy deep and narrow bottle diggers hole, I hope no animals fall down it. The Dutch scene on the pottery would definitely fit my project. I decided to start my own channel after meeting you and with all the new time on my hands...you inspired me!! The pottery shard project is well under way, I'll send you an email about it. Stay safe and hope to see you again one day.
Oh, I don't know if I could do that without accidentally putting on a bit of her accent too... which, on her is wonderful... from my mouth would be terrible. 🙂
Thank you for another wonder mudlark walk. Was hoping to see a video from you today. I collect mason jars and that turn of the century one is wonderful. I have mason jars from the 1800’s and use them on a daily basis in my kitchen. I use a lot of them for storing flour, sugar, dried fruits…
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Any advice on how to restore the Mason Jar? I think perhaps wet sanding with very fine grit emery paper might be enough to polish it up again... a lot of work but I do like the thought of restoring it if I can... perhaps I could even make it into a video with some other bottles. 🙂
Tom, I personally do not restore them. If they have a small crack I’ll stabilize it, but that’s about it. Now that being said, Brandon, Adventure Archaeology (RU-vid channel name) has a way of sanding them that makes them shine again. I have also seen SiFinds use a polyurethane spray (I don’t think that’s food safe) for making his finds glossy again. Just FYI, some masons of that era are quite rare and worth a bit money. Lots of helpful sites that can help you see the variations and help you ID exactly what you found. Happy Hunting 😊
Oh wow it was really great to see this video ... I have been looking forward to another of your videos. Really enjoyed the it Tom thank you and I hope you are well .
Thanks Donna, I'm glad you liked it. There's a few more coming before I run out; hopefully the lock-down eases before then... I'm keeping safe and well in the meantime, I hope you and your loved ones are too.
Morning tom hope your keeping well mate, that's an amazing place your in there, and it will change after every storm which should provide more goodies for you hopefully, excited to hear you purchased a forge, I sense some interesting uploads on route , as always many thanks for your uploads , until the next 👍🇮🇪
I think if I head back there, I might grab a few of the prettier ones, and give that a try; I have some bottles already to try it with but those ones are in great condition apart from missing the marbles. 🙂
@@tomburleigh9261 Go for it! There's one in my area which I still need to dig through when this lockdown is over. Haven't found a codd marble yet, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :)
OMGosh!!!! I would not have made it past the beginning of the stream! I would have found somewhere to sit with my feet in the water, listening to it rush over the rocks as I took in the beauty all around me. I would hope to have some paper and pencil to write some thoughts down, poetry or even try to draw the scenery there. So good to see a video from you as I’ve missed your videos. Hope you are doing well and staying safe! Hopefully this will all be over soon and we all can return to a somewhat normal life. Take care, hello to you girlfriend and as always, much love and big hugs from E. Tennessee USA😁😁❤️❤️
Yes, I find it quite sad; bottle diggers don't have permission to dig on that site; and they're the ones making it so that asbestos is getting into the stream, and killing trees by digging up the roots in search of bottles. I don't mind bottle digging as a hobby, but with or without permissions, filling in the holes afterwards is the right thing to do.
As often as people seem to find tea pot lids, wouldn't it be cool if someone could figure out a way to display them on a wall? Not in a shadow box or on a shelf but hanging by hooks. I don't normally like knick knacks but I think it would look nice in a kitchen or breakfast nook. Sir ,your videos are just plain wonderful, so soothing, especially after I spent 5 1/2 hours in the ER with my 95 year old Mother yesterday. I knew I had your video to look forward to. Thank you.
That's a pretty cool idea, I was wondering when someone would give me an idea for them; they're so often intact and quite good looking... I think it would be fun to have most of the teapot though... cut just below the spout, or at an angle, so that it looks to be embedded in the wall. 🙂 I'm sorry you had to spend so long in ER, I hope your mother is OK, or at least well patched up... and that the ER was a safe place to be.
@@tomburleigh9261 You made my idea even better, I hadn't thought of that but then I sometimes have a visual problem with items that don't hang straight. I cannot resist straightening a crooked picture or a rumpled rug on the floor or an uneven towel in the bathroom. Its a visual thing for me which a psychologist would probably tell me is some sort of psychosis, who knows. But your idea is still even better. Mom has fallen 3 times since the ER and still isn't better but we're hopeful. The ER people were gowned up head to toe, masked and shielded with plastic face shields but no one washed their hands. How can they forget a simple thing like that? I did point it out though and we need to do this to protect our love ones and ourselves. Stay safe Tom
Aw, sorry I can't carry everything out; too much out there and not enough space to store, clean, parcel and post things. Glad you enjoyed the video anyway. 🙂
It's funny how I'm trying to scan all the broken bits of pottery and you're: "oh, here's a bit of copper wire and some brass…" Which I didn't even see… And again a lovely outing, thanks Tom :)
This is truly medicine for the soul of one who loves the outdoors, rivers, streams and to listen to others.. Thank you for sharing your trips. Loved the little bottle with the stopper, and the marble..💞 I couldn't believe you resisted the milk glass! Stay safe and healthy, you and yours.. 😊
Ah, you haven't seen the milk glass box at home; it is piled high... and I've only found a use for 6 of the pieces. 🙂 I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope you and yours can stay safe and healthy too.
I always guessed complete cod bottles were so rare because children used to break them to get at the marbles..but they are out there because I have found two in my time although some years ago now...keep hoping and hunting.
Hi Tom, lovely video as per usual! In one of your latest videos you found what you assumed was a lid, Singleton’s Eye Ointment. I found one exactly the same and it turnded out not to be a lid, but the vessel itself. The very small amount of ointment would be covered with greaseproof paper and sold as such.
Them bottle diggers have no respect for nature! Thanks for this video it's just what I needed today as I feel under the weather(Strange saying cos it's been quite sunny) Very calming x
