What a brilliant review - Branagh should be convicting of destroying the legacy of Agatha Christie. Surprised the Christie Estate permitted this.

Thanks! Christie was notoriously picky about adaptations of her works. If she were alive to see this she'd have a few words for Branagh, I'm sure.

Where's the Christie estate up to now: her great-grandson? I doubt there's much reverence for her works now. They're just milked for the cash cow that they are.

@@robertthomson1587 At least we still have the David Suchet BBC series and the 1970s Albert Finney film. Though there were some questionable changes made to the stories in the later Suchet adaptations. But at least it still felt like Poirot. This? It's like if someone got the rights to Tolkien and...Oh wait...😉

Thank you for confirming my decision not to see this. I LOATHED Branaugh's Death On the Nile, and once is enough. One positive I can see in Haunting is that he chose a less well-known, less than perfect story. But if Branaugh, or any writer thinks they're overall a better writer than Agatha Christie: no. No, you're not. But so many screenwriters feel they have to leave their mark on her works, rather than bring them to life.

Christie was not a great prose stylist and her plots began degenerating after 1960 or so.... but in terms of human motivation and human nature.... she was absolutely dead on and it's amazing at just how much she managed to get into the books through suggestion (rather than billboarding like modern authors do).

Hallowe'en Party wasn't one of Christie's best works, coming as it did in her later 'relaxed' period. Even so, it sounds like the 'adaptation' is execrable. I won't be seeing it. I saw Branagh's appalling Orient Express. Once bitten; twice shy.

Death On the Nile was somehow worse. And this...Even worse. he didn't even TRY to stick to her work.

His adaptations are abominations

They don't even deserve to be called adaptations. They are the sluice juice that seeps from a poorly maintained septic tank that was once installed by Agatha Christie's Mother in Law after a bender. This thing wishes it was an abomination.
