I wanted to clarify something. I’m not saying I’m not doing live versions of the songs, like I said if the suggestions really call for the live version, I will try my best to get that one up. I fully recognize the importance of the bands live performances and importance of the crowds impact to the band. But from what I’ve heard others had to deal with, and what I experienced in the first episode, the live ones get your entire video blocked, and I hate having to fully blank a video even after blurring. I will do everything I can to try and fulfill that want though to get the fullest experience. Also with that being said, I also want to do the original videos as they clearly work hard on them, they display the vision of the songs meaning, and I do not want to discredit anyone’s hard work they put in. It doesn’t matter if a video is over 10 years old, music stands the test of time (most of the time)

Megitsune:- "Megitsune" (メギツネ, "Vixen") is the second major label single by the Japanese kawaii metal band Babymetal. It was released in Japan on June 19, 2013 as the fifth single from the album Babymetal. It is also the first single released independently from the idol group Sakura Gakuin. Nice to see you're back with this suggestion, they were quite young in this one but wait to see Doki Doki Morning or Iine!!, you can enjoy this song with the live sound of the Kami Band at Budokan 2014 or Budokan 2021 and after with the new formation. This is another BM fans favorite song and is already a classic one they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist when performing live such recently at Germany festivals as well at FOX_ FEST Festival last weekend of May when they even opened up the festival with a exclusive remix version and dance called "Akago Kinzoku" dancing with a hand-fan. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal, MomoMetal not here yet) and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. The pig squeals are just a backing track and is credited to no one as well many more growlings and harsh vocals you can hear during early era. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" mic she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts. The origin of the "fox sign" is kinda long to explain but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀 This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want. You made the right call regarding the Fox sign! Yeah like many my first impression of Babymetal was Gimme Chocolate. But last year when I started looking into them, this was the music video I came across. Then I went into the Headbanger rabbit hole and down the Fox hole I went. Yeah assume live version for most of BM’s music. But there are certain music videos that are an exception like this one and Karate. Headbanger was good because there was an interesting bit of lore in that video that might be useful to know in the future. I like many do recommend Road of Resistance live in Japan. But if others have recommended different live versions I don’t think it’s as issue. It’s just their official live video in Japan from 9 years ago is such an iconic performance and has been reacted to by so many people. It’s got 35M views so it speaks for itself.

The traditional instruments held by the dancers in the back is the shamisen. However, the song features the koto. This was the first song released by Babymetal as an independent act after separating from their parent Idol group Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy). 15 year old Su-metal was encouraged to sing the song in Japanese Enka style. The melody used for the breakdown is that of an old Japanese folk song, Sakura Sakura (Cherry Blossoms).

The author of the music for this song also wrote Babymetal's part for Ratatata.

Nice reactions. Hand sign is the fox for sure. Megitsune is a great song and a standard at their shows. It's been said that it is rather difficult to sing. So, of course Su uses it to warm up her vocals with it. Kind of giving herself a sound check on where her vocal cords are that day. Headbanger is a song that gets you going for sure as well. Love all the different versions of it as well. MoaBangaaa Momobangaaa fangs out. and even the remix version they did for the start of the Legend 1997 (the year Su was born) concert. It was for her 16th birthday. The rock opera concert that took Babymetal from idol to metal forever. Now they recently did a remix version of Megitsune live. You just never know what Babymetal has up their sleeves. Next may I suggest a Su solo tittle "Rondo of Nightmare" with the Kamiband intro. and in contrast a Black Babymetal song (Yui and Moa as a duo) tittle "4 No Uta". Fun thing about Babymetal live is the songs with intros. Those intros never appear on an album. They haven't done a Black Babymetal song as a duo since Yui left. Moa has done a few of them as solos. Tittle "GJ" Moa solo. Now that Momoko has joined Babymetal. Many wonder if we're going to get the return of the duo Black Babymetal. IMO they should call it Red Babymetal their other original color. Keeps the Yui fans happy. But that would also mean the return of Su solo songs. and since they're all bangers. It would be Amazing. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

Great reaction. 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, I have no idea on the difference) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains the fox masks in the video) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional subservient female role in Japanese society saying that is changing I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive kitsune (foxes), they are maiden-like megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su spoke a few words and pulled the tanto (short blade) out of her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.

Next suggestion: - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official MV (2015), it's the most epic live version and with the best sound and technical execution by the best musicians you can find in Japan. Disregard any suggestions over early era songs performed after 2018 (including 2023 versions) for the moment, not saying some of those are bad, you can come back later with those if you want, isn't about nostalgia nor melancholy like some comments said, is about to experience the same path we did appreciating the evolution of this group, there's no need to rush.🦊🤘🔥

9:10 There are some copyright issues with BabyMetal's live-videos sometimes but there's a reason for that.... and that's because BabyMetal's live shows are what they're known for and are in essence, a billion times better than their music videos... and I'm saying this as a fan of theirs for about a decade. Also, rather than blurring, a watermark, even a moving one will work a lot of the time. You can also invert the video orientation (Right to left) to get past it sometimes. Nice reaction, and you´re one of the very few reactors spotting Su-Metal´s special "Tanto" microphone at first sight 😅 "Megitsune" is a masterpiece, and its MV is done super-well! The MV for "Metali!" was done by the same director, btw. Your problems with the live videos might be in part YT´s fault... there are LOTS of reactors getting up their videos without blocking, some even without blurring/overlays. Most of them resort to compilations, which is quite ok with us, if the compilation is done well. "For The Fox God" channel is one of the few doing very fine live performance compilations. Nonetheless, you could try - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL) That´s one of their showcase live performances, and it will blow your mind 😉 Regarding MVs, - "Karate" is another GREAT one, accompanied by a quite well reactable live version - "Karate - Live at Download 2016" which is a very special live performance, too.

This was Babymetal’s 5th song, and their first release (Jun 19th 2013) after they split from their original parent Idol Group (Sakura Gakuin). Su was 15, Moa was 13, and Yui turned 14 the day after this song released. If you wanna do a true deep dive, I suggest reacting to MVs 1st (when avaialble), then the live after. While their MVs are great, there is a reason BM has only 13 MVs out of their entire ~70 discography. They are by design, 100% a live performance act. Trust the fans when we say: DO THE LIVE!!! Lol. "That thing" is called "shamisen". It's the traditional Japanese string instrument that was "used" by the people in the background during the dancing scenes. Blade is a tanto, instument is a Shamisen or related. They really DO need to be heard live (they are a LIVE band) - even if you have to put a logo over it or if necessary use a countdown with a link to the track - other's may well provide links to "safe" tracks - , but the ones with the huge BM logo over them aren't the best. Honestly their studio sound rarely even begins to compare to live (Megitsune is an exception imo -I actually prefer it to most of their live versions). Good reaction anyway!

Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. Megitsune is my jam. It's still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography. Definitely quintessential BABYMETAL and among their most Japanese songs. BABYMETAL's producer Koba sent this song back to the song arranger Yuyoyuppe dozens of times before he was satisfied with it. This one consistently comes in at or near the top in fan polls, and has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song. Much of the video was shot on location on a Noh drama stage by the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has since become something of a pilgrimmage site for BABYMETAL fans. I was able to see it last March. : )

You should definitely keep doing the live versions aswell. Amuse (BABYMETAL record label) has eased up quite a bit compared to the years when they blocked pretty much everything so you shouldn't have too much problems (usually blurring the video should do the trick). BABYMETAL themselves have said that their songs get "finished" when they perform them live since the audience interaction is really a huge part of them.

Suggestion: "Catch me if you can" with the original Kami Band Intro. Then grab your ankles and kiss your butt goodbye because you'll be hooked....... 🤘🤘 Thank me later.
