👀 Please Read Before Commenting. I've got some stick for making this review, so I'd like to clarify a few things: 1) Flextail did not say this was a prototype, only the nozzle was subject to change. In fact all Flextail have done is swap out the battery for one with a charging port! 2) I fully charged the device before filming the review! 3) Flextail asked for an honest review, and that is what they got, I reviewed what was sent to me! On the day before the videos were meant to go live, Flextail advised they changed the battery. Hence why I had to quickly add an extra part to the review. I have no issues with Flextail, they reimbursed me for the additional charger I had to buy and I've always worked with them on the basis that my reviews are honest. I genuinely love the Tiny Pump X2 and that's the pump I'll continue to use! Cheers Robin

Just a note as someone who got a beta version as well: the Nitecore battery that they sent me with the demo unit was nearly out of charge when I got it. I needed to charge it completely before writing about the unit. I'm a little surprised that they didn't send a battery with a USB-C port and sent just a standard rechargable. On their purchasing page, they offer a battery with a USB recharging port.

WELL DONE 👍👍 This is the first review of this pump I have watch without screening at the PC everyone who's reviewed this has skipped over the fact that you can't charge it while camping so it's bloody rubbish unless you buy and carry a big charger. However, after what you found out at the end this isn't the pump they're going to ship. Well even if they do add a USB in my opinion it's too little too late, and to tell the truth, when I clicked on your video I was all ready to leave a comment saying (yes but you cant charge it) Glad I watched your whole video first lol. Great information buddy The best and most honest review of this thing on YT 👍

Just received my Zero Pump (Dec 6, 2023) and there is still no micro-USB socket to recharge the battery. Flextail did, handily (?), include a USB>micro USB cable, but there's no port on the device itself to plug it in to. I don't have a separate battery charger - and can't afford to buy one at the moment - so my unit is already useless. Exceptionally disappointed.

I've a Thermarest Neoair Xlite and already have the inflation bag. It takes less than a minute to inflate. I don't find the work of inflating an issue, even after lots of miles and looks like electric pumps take longer than the bag to get the bed inflated. In the morning, it's easy to remove the last pockets of air by folding -maybe takes a couple of minutes to pack away and I guess is minimal extra work over using an electric pump. In addition, I use the inflation bag to keep my Xlite, pillow &c as protection in my bag. I also occasionally use the Xlite plus bag to make a comfy seat. So I don't plan to buy a Tiny or Zero anytime soon.
@WalkWithWallace

To be honest these pumps are definitely a luxury, I do like the lantern on the Tiny pump though. FWIW I also think pump sacks are not required for most mats either, good old lung power is fine. The mould thing is scaremongering.
@AScotsmanOutdoors
@AScotsmanOutdoors 9 месяцев назад
I've always found the pump-sack to be a solid option (provided the mat comes with one) but have been eyeing up this behind all the recent hype. Im glad I watched this though because it's made me think twice. The Zero pump looks the part but i now think I'd go with the Tiny 2 instead. I too think the mould debate is a bit weak and if you use a pump during winter conditions then it will be putting moisture into the mat regardless. Again, a good watch and more food for thought.
@WalkWithWallace
@WalkWithWallace 9 месяцев назад
The Tiny X2 is excellent, lights up the tent nicely as a lantern and inflates your mat several times between charges. The Zero just doesn't hit the spot for me. Pump sacks can be a faff in winter when you're confined to the tent, but yes if its damp outside then the pump is going to suck that into your mat. 🧐

Can't say I see the lack of port as a serious issue. It's using a pretty standard CR123 size battery, which you can just swap in a fresh one yourself, or use an RCR123 with the port on the side if you want something rechargeable on the go (which usually has less capacity as a result). Only disappointing part is that they didn't make an even beefier 18650 version.

@hanwagu9967

the last thing you want to do is carry extra batteries or a separate battery charger, plus, even the latest version where you can plug usb c into the recharge battery, that is still a hassle since you have to remove the cap, take out the battery to charge. they could have achieved the same thing by having an internal battery with usb c port. I think they got fixated on making this have a replaceable battery.

seems like the work spent making a fancy box would have been better spent sending the usb battery, oh well, guess we'll wait and see. The battery will have been shipped part charged, so it should do more inflations than you found.. maybe. I use the tiny; 91g with a 1300mAh battery, will do over 2 weeks without a charge. Taking that battery specs can be a bit made up, it's really only the run time that counts, and as it stands it's a no from me. I did think the pump was slowing when you tested it, so maybe a repeat when flextail send you a full spec battery that's charged. I like the smaller size and weight, but not that much. I had a look for USB battery on the nitecore website, looks like an extra 1.3g for that (NL1665R) version, they also list the NL169 950mAh battery for an extra 2.2g, but without the USB.

It is pretty common knowledge to charge a battery before using it. Also, they mentioned to you that it was a prototype and You’re upset they made a change to improve the product? Seems like you rushed a review and gave it a poor score and didn’t retest after, which you probably should have done in my opinion
@WalkWithWallace
@WalkWithWallace 9 месяцев назад
Firstly, I did fully charge the device before using and secondly I can only review the product I was given. Flextail did not make this clear it was a prototype, was only when myself and others fed back the shortcomings of the device. If anyone rushed it was Flextail, I was honest. 😉

@@WalkWithWallace did they say it was tester and that it was still in crowd funding? They haven't pushed it out, but seems there has been some miscommunication on Flextail's part by not pointing out that these weren't even available yet except on crowdfuding. Others that reviewed noted it was in crowd funding stage, which implies that it is not prime time, or at least wasn't up to this month for mass production. Flextail obviously listened to the testers that it gave these things for free, since they include an option for recharg battery with usb c; however, even that is rather clumsy. I think they fixated too much on having a replaceable battery that they didn't go ahead to just seal the thing up with a reacharg battery with usb c port.

@@hanwagu9967 the communication was pretty poor. We were never asked to be testers, Flextail wanted a review to go out on a certain day. I know some youtubers decided not to review it at all, others have glazed over the flaw. I decided to review what I received.

The fundamental flaw, to my mind, is in general you can already easily fill any inflatable mat using any plastic bag, stuff sack, etc. For ultralight/minimalists perspective it really doesn't make any kind of sense at all...the pump is heavier than my actual sleeping mat!
@WalkWithWallace
@WalkWithWallace 10 месяцев назад
I know some people go with good old fashioned lung power. I find pump sacks a bit of a faff, particularly if it's raining and you need to do inside. If Flextail deliver the ability to charge this device without the third party charger then at 60g. It's pretty light. My snozzle bag is 80g.

I gave up on my tiny pump V1 (with light) I found it really annoying how the adapter for my xped kept falling off of it. As it has the light though I think the idea is fantastic. I have just upgraded to the V2 but not had a chance to get out with it yet. I would not bother with this if I need to keep weight down, I use my schnozzel sack as I dont bother with a lantern, just a head torch. Ok the schnozzel sack does not way nothing but my sleeping bag, xped and clean clothes are all staying dry inside it, if they were not they would probably be in a dry bag anyway. The battery on this new pump would need to last longer in my opinion too, I would worry that the cold would drain it faster etc. Excellent review Robin it's great hearing an honest opinion and not just someone saying what they think a brand wants them to say to get more freebies.

@@GusExplores cheers Gus, the pump attachments on my original pump kept popping off too, really fiddly. They improved that greatly with the Tiny Pump X2 which is an excellent device, love the light and it means I don't have to carry my vlog light.

Just received my Zero Pump (Dec 6, 2023) and there is still no micro-USB socket to recharge trhe battery. They did, handily (?), include a USB>micro USB cable, but there's no port on the device itself to plug it in to. It takes some kind of logic to go to the expense of adding a useless accessory. I don't have a separate battery charger - and can't afford to buy one at the moment - so my unit is already useless. Exceptionally disappointed.

@@WalkWithWallace @MastaSquidge pointed it out to me - the charge port is on the actual battery but isn't mentioned on the instruction leaflet (in fact there's nothing at all about recharging it on the leraflet) or on the packaging. If not for MastaSquidge, I wouldn't have seen this, as it's something I've never come across before. Anyone have any feedback on batteries with a built-in charge port? Safety implications? Print on the battery (set in something like 2pt) warns not to expose the battery to water or to keep it in a confined space… couldn't get much more confined than in the Zero Pump itself!

well, they pushed it out for people to test out, and responsible product testers that get this thing for free do post that it is still in crowd funding stage with mass prod this month for delivery november. the chief complaint has been the battery charging, so flextail adjusted to include an option to get a recharg battery with usb c port.
