I live in FL and I can’t afford the GW or thrift store prices. Those prices in Destin are really ridiculous. I walk around my neighborhood and find all kinds of things on the side of the road. I pick them up and if I can’t use it I donate it to either the Veterans Nursing Home or a shelter. We also “barter” in our neighborhood and trade items we don’t need with things we do with each other. It’s fun. It’s amazing what people throw out. I will also upgrade what I have with what I have found if it’s better than mine.
Prices are higher because they are finding out about thrifters reselling. I used to be able to get a pair of Nike pants for my boyfriend for less than five and now because of this, they have pulled all those pants and put them on a different display now and charging anywhere between eight to $10 . So namebrand clothes like Adidas, Nike, etc. they’re pulling them and putting them on a different racks and charging really high prices. Pretty much anywhere at any of the Goodwill stores where I live at have raised the prices a lot like ridiculous high. I used to thrift my dresses there for myself for like a dollar or two. And because of all this reselling, the dresses are going up to eight dollars now you can’t even afford to buy at Goodwill. I’ve watched other videos where Thrifters have gotten thrown out of Goodwill stores because they videotaping and reselling. Which I think is wrong as long as you’re paying for it they shouldn’t be telling who can buy there. My local Saint Vincent de Paul store has started going up to so pretty much anywhere has raised the prices like either doubled or tripled the prices.
Goodwill has gotten crazy with the pricing…and for a “non-for profit” get there items from donations! It kills me they want to put retail prices on used donated items!!! Ours here in Georgia are the same way…I’ve pretty much stopped going to the Goodwills around us because of that and I donate to other local thrift stores where I know the money is actually going for a good cause instead of a CEOs bank account
I am in Atlanta & those are like consignment store prices. Our thrift store prices are definitely going up, but they are not as high as that store in FL. Thanks for your videos! Love your energy!
Everything in Florida is expensive. I find better deals at antique shops than I do at any of the thrift stores. $575 for the sofa? $229 for the table? That’s wild.
I just read the caption yes Florida goodwills are horribly overpriced... look at the building they need to pay that high rent... om gosh I would of walked in and walked right back out...
Yes prices are outrageous in Florida at the thrift stores. I’m in Pensacola and it’s crazy. I think these prices are somewhat higher because it’s Destin and it’s a tourist town with tourist prices.
Furniture probably came from rental houses so would almost be like new. And if it’s Tommie Bahama brand it usually cost about three times what Ashley’s or Rooms to Go furniture cost.
That high backed bench is called a "Banquette". Ceramic log canister set had Copper bands not brass. Thrift stores in Wisconsin are horribly high for second hand and there is Nothing in them.
The Sarasota Bradenton area is great for thrifting in the Summer. There is a map of all the thrift stores in both areas available. As soon as the snowbirds arrive, the prices increase, drastically!
That specific place is high priced. It helps people with jobs etc. A better thrift store to go in is in Navarre. Methodist thrift store. Good prices and great people. I was so excited to see you here, I follow your channel and website etc. I am from this area so it was exciting to see you thrifting in the area. Hope you found some good items! I think there is an American Thrift store in Crestview which is about an hour from Destin if you cross the Midbay bridge. In Bluewater bay there is also a Goodwill and The Methodist Bargain Box in Bluewater on the way to Crestview. If you ever visit again.
Ya thats crazy. In our littel town of 700 people we got a thrift store run by ministerial alliance surpose to be for low income well they got prices so high so high everything in it expensive . The people in the town bring in there things they dont want for free and they turn around and jack up the prices real high and its so sick. I hope they are ashamed of theselves. So i wont take my things down there i take my unwanted things and put in a box or i have a folded up tabel of things i put on it and put it next to my curb out front and i sighn days free. And some people if like they take!!! I love doing it so it makes my heart happy!!!! We have a food bank next to the thrift store thats run by the same high priced people and the food is extremely over over out dated and meat what littel they give is brown and out dated in our town there is over 60 people and its not just poor is middle class and oh i know its all over our country as well. People are hungry ,overwhelmed, and when you think of our goodwills and outher thrift shops run by some charity's you think a break would be nice but now its big money to be made. To me its sick sick to some people !!! I wont go in goodwill high priced crooks i dont need it i dont need it i buy it if i reorganize i put it to curb free it helps me it helps prople !!! I just pray for our country each and every day!!!!
I detest when thrift stores purposely bring in new items to sell. I'm not talking donated items that are new. I mean they got some stuff at liquidation and now are selling it for top dollar. I hate it so much.
I’m finding a lot of thrift stores have lost their minds! Sometimes they charge the same or more than when the object was new. I’ve seen the original price still on it.
Yep, that's Destin for you. I'm not at all shocked. I lived there for 16 yrs. Cost of living has always been high but the wages are super low. When I left 20 yrs ago I had a county job, was in management and only made $22,000 a year. Beaches are most gorgeous in the U.S. Unfortunately, the beaches don't pay the bills. Hope you had a great trip anyway. 😊
Wow I could not believe the prices in that place. Even if you weren't trying to find things to resell it would still be awful High . But I still enjoyed the video thank you so much for taking us along blessings and hugs from New Mexico
Goodwill is trying to outsmart the Resellers that are so popular, thanks to RU-vid. The online resellers have the world looking at their stuff. That local Goodwill only has the local clientele. I can't imagine they'll sell much at those prices. I could be wrong. My local Goodwill has very high prices for very cheap junk. I live in an area with a population of which 28% are under the poverty line. Seems unfair that they can't afford Goodwill.
I come across a lot of Dollar Tree items in our local Goodwill and they are marked up to 1.99. Goodwill done hit their heads a few years back. I don't even go anymore.
MOST thrift stores have lost their minds, Julie. I've given up thrift shopping and opt for retail for what I need. Resale businesses have made thrift stores believe their items are more valuable. They're cutting into your profit margin. Hopefully, it won't last too long. They will have to reduce stock as more donations arrive ???
Oh my goodness I have that exact same sofa and loveseat and I didn’t pay that for brand new😳 although I do live in Wisconsin in the city that’s less than less an hour away from where they manufactured it at the outlet so maybe I got a great deal
I feel like thrift stores have been raising their prices because of resellers online (me being one of them lol) but that is ridiculous how high their prices are in Florida! I’m in Texas and you can find some reasonable prices but I have come across some crazy high prices too
I'm in St Cloud Florida and yes, I don't go to the thrift stores as much as I use to. It use to be my therapy, but now the stuff is basically overpriced junk! 😢
I’m just 45 min north of there. This is on the beach with high end items from multi-million dollar homes and expensive condos. There are a couple of places in Santa Rosa Beach that have more reasonable prices. That whole area though, not much is cheap.
I love to see charity shops when I travel to the south of England. some of their prices make me want to scream! I looked at some furniture and it is cheaper new at home. Denmarkis not cheap and prices at second hand shops are increasing but you can still hunt for bargains.
I think I would have walked out laughing hysterically after just walking through the furniture!! I agree though Julie, not a lot of normal in style/on trend going on there. But if those couches would’ve been a better price they’d have been gone!
I live in Central Illinois just outside of Peoria. I would say most of our thrift stores are pretty good with the exception of one that is even higher than Goodwill but every once in awhile you can find some great deals there too. They run daily specials also but they definitely look at eBay prices on some things. They also mark stuff down by certain dates but the tags give you the price, you don’t have to figure it out. However Southern Illinois I think is more expensive and of course North towards Chicago.
I live in Florida and yes the thrift stores have gone crazy! I do better at garage sales and estate sales. Goodwill started the high prices and other thrift stores followed. We don't have the bins where I live. Most things at goodwill start their prices at 5.99 and go up . Not as many people shop there, used to be crowded.
I hate when they quote online some online prices are crazy high like Etsy or eBay and are they quoting sold or listed prices, you can list at any price but what did it sell for!
Our goodwill stores here in florence sc are ridiculous with their wishy washy pricing. I have found items from dollar tree and they are priced at $5 or more and it still has the dollar tree sticker. Then I will find items priced correctly for a thrift store. I thrift shop twice a week at 6 different stores. Our local thrift stores have better pricing and 100% of the money goes to helping local residents. I do not resell. I shop for items to flip and craft with for my home.
Julie, I live in Panama City & the prices at Good will in my area are high also. If you drive to Ft Walton, west of Destin, The prices are better. Someone different runs those stores.
I've thrifted in West Palm and the prices were not near that high. Here in South Central PA they can get a little crazy at the local Goodwill (nothing like in the video though) but I always follow their color sales and only shop when their new colors go on sale.
All the thrift stores in Australia are very high, especially the Salvos and Vinnies it isn’t often now that I find anything that I can afford in a thrift store, which is sad. That store was atrocious that you were I. Julie. They think they are a very high end antique store by the look of it. I wonder what they would all do if people stopped donating and began selling their stuff themselves. It’s just like the thrift stores are out of reach of people who really need them, they arent there to help people who need it anymore, it’s ridiculous.
