Have I bitten off too much!? The amazing challenge to build Bradford Cathedral from card and paper!

Michael Thanks for a great introduction to your latest challenge. It a real honour for you to bring us all along with this project. Liking the Love Bradford & Bradford Cathedral logo alongside Chandwell. I think this project will be a great crossover from your usual inspired by approach to exactly what you see. Wonder if you could do some collaboration with other You Tubers who are also championing Bradford, so one like Darren from Adventure Me, who is already covering Bradford, even a now and then around Bradford Foster Sq Station. As you developed different techniques these will be able to be used on Chandwell. I know many of the Grand Looking Victorian Industrial Buildings used the Gothic Victorian Architecture. As a West Yorkshire lad looking forward to this extension of both Bradford & Chandwell. Good look in the upcoming year, including the talk at Bradford Cathedral. Ian

As a born and bred Bradfordian I am looking forward to this serie. My interest is in wargaming WW2 and my card models for my terrain are not in anyway as detailed as yours but in my defence they do not have to be. They need to be playable,,, model soldiers need to be placed in them, they need to be somewhat generic and also built to be easily stored and transported to the next battlefield . But I am always interested in how other craftsmen work and how they approach and execute a project. Good luck.

Wow…..yes I’ll agree it’s quite a challenge. I remember the making of the windows for Revs so thinking this will take place many times over is quite a feat. Same goes for the stonework too, there’s been recent videos on this but the cathedral is another level. I’m sure though that you’ll grab the bull by the horns and pull the project out of the bag. I know it!

I've been to the cathedral a few timed for various events, and love looking at the outside, trying to work out how it's actually structured and put together. The Heritage Day is already in the calendar, looking forward to following your progress.

This will be an amazing build. They picked the right model builder! The patience required for that technique you used for the windows on the Revs building should have landed you international awards. Perhaps a knighthood. I wonder if you'll use that on this build. I'm excited to see this come to life!

Had to add a comment. Always enjoying you here in the United States. Been watching you now for several years since you started. Every pot of Chadwell is a pleasure to watch, but this is a major project and it’ll be amazing to watch you build this over the next year. We all look forward to this.

I once thought I might do Exeter Cathedral but once I got an N sized set of drawings and could see that it would be about 30" long (762mm) I'll just say that the project has gone to the bottom of my "I'll get around to it" list. Good luck with Bradford! I hope that the cathedral or someone will find a spot for it in a permanent public display when it's complete.

Wow! What an honour to be asked, Michael. The way you go about your modelling, certainly makes you a top candidate to take on such a challenge in 2mm scale. There's a lot of work to be done, so you'll need to plan carefully to make sure you're not burning midnight oil a few weeks before showtime. The very best of luck. wow Michael! What a great challenge you have been given. You are certainly capable of doing it, perhaps with trial and error, but ultimately I see you achieving it. Hopefully you will work on it for less time than the Sagrada Familia, but I think the challenge is at least as great! ;-). I am following your progress with unprecedented enthusiasm from Belgium-Ghent.

Well Michael, based on Chandwell you certainly have the skills to do this. But only you know if you have the time to meet the 2025 date - when in 2025 would they like it? I've often wondered if you have employment as the work on Chandwell is so intricate. You make things in card whereas I wouldn't have the patience and would use 3D printing. It's great to see your skills recognised by such a notable organisation. I am giving a talk on Architectural Modelling later this year and I shall be including your Chandwell as an example par excellence.

What an inspirational project. It also means that we, the channel watchers, will at last get the opportunity to see one of your models in the flesh, since presumably the finished model will be displayed in the cathedral. I am really looking forward to that. I do think it rather sad that Chandwell is not portable and shown at exhibitions, where people could marvell to your incredible artistry.

That’s quite an honour to have the opportunity to share and show your work And quite daunting as you’ll want to do the cathedral and your own model justice. But I have no doubts that you’ll do a very fine job, even if a couple of sessions end up in the bin. You’ll do it ,and yourself , proud.

Its a sad fact Michael... I lived in Bradford twixt 85 and 93, but I never went in the Cathedral. I probably couldn't find it now! Can't wait to see the build.

Dear Michael, now that’s a great honor, to be asked to build a 1:148 rendition of the Bradford Cathedral, is indeed a true recognition of your modeling work. I’m sure it’s going to be an absolute pleasure to follow your progress in the series you’ve announced. One question though, are you modeling just the cathedral’s outside? Or, will you also include the inside of the cathedral? In any way shape or form, you may find that the structural design of the ‘church’ may be a clue to construct the building in paper. Which in turn may open up the possibility of, at the very least, a rendition of the interior. Especially where the nave support piers form a solid base towards the aisle buttress walls and build up the structure in separate triangular support sections. Anyhow, I must digress, can imagine this project will also be a challenge. Nevertheless, with your skills and creativity, I’m sure you’ll pull it off. Humbly think it will become a beautiful model, a learning experience, and an excellent opportunity to share historical information with a paper and cardboard twist. Cheerio
