Buy the smallest hoop , cut in the middle of the bend , insert a small dowl and weld back up and grind back , that you can do with out a bender , also recommend buying the largest ultrasonic cleaner you can afford , will pay for itself in no time
Ryan have a look at the 1971 Norton Commando 750SS it has the sort of exhaust system you are interested in with the heat shields. Look how low it is, and please note this model only lasted for a year as it was not popular, and I believe it may have been the hot exhaust pipes that prevented its popularity. All the best John
I ve done same rebuid on a SD250N around same time. Followed your build as well. I only got the point of even running and tickover when i softened the inlet and airbox rubbers so i had a better seal and no air leaks. I have also fitted twin silencers and collector box as original set up, as i had the Motad 2 into 1 like yours. I'm sure that also makes it run and idle better, but I could be imaging it 😊
Hi Ryan many moons ago I had a CB400N it wasn’t the fastest of bikes even then when 2 up you struggled to do 70mph without dropping down through the box BTW love your videos they are interesting and knowledgeable keep them up Rich ( Richards home mechanics )
I've followed Flint's build from day 1 with it all in boxes - you are now getting what you deserve for all those hours of the build - thoroughly deserved!
I really feel your pain with those carbs . I have had so many issues with the single CV carb on my 250 Rebel . Had it on and off about 10 times before I was happy with it . Can't imagine the stress involved with two of them . Well done . Hope yours is ok now . Carbs can be a real pain .
Hi Ryan, Another useful video as usual and the bit on the air passage for the carbs was something i wasn't aware of but i am now and will look to do now that im close to finishing my 1982 Super Dream build. Have you considered putting the pipe the other side with a 2 into 1 system and using a short tail pipe low down rather than up high? Appreciate your trying to keep the pipe up for ground clearance but i suspect you will have to have something bespoke made in order to achieve that and the radius might restrict the exhaust gasses. just food for thought.
Hi Neil, thank you. Your exhaust suggestion is not a bad idea, just not what i am aiming for. Although maybe my abilities will ultimately limit my options.
