We used to have our own version of this show in Finland. It was so good, especially with the original cast. It's sad we have so little political comedy on television right now.
@@cwbrooks5329 I can try to answer you as I'm Finnish but I haven't watched much Finnish TV in a while so I'm not completely up to date. Personally, I've found that while we do have a couple of our own panel and sketch shows (of varying quality), mostly TV comedy tends to comprise of imported popular UK/US sitcoms. In the past, we didn't import panel shows but this has changed recently as UK Taskmaster has started airing in Finland. Some of the most popular Finnish shows are probably Putous (a type of live improv/sketch show, 2010- ) and the late Finnish version of Hignfy which ran for almost 20 years.
@@cwbrooks5329 I haven't watched television much at all for many years, except for Jukka Lindström's satire shows, but he's been off the air mostly. There are a few panel shows with authors and actors as panelists. There used to be a stand up comedy competition show that ran for multiple seasons. In general, I feel like Finnish comedy scene has recessed since 00s and the decades before that, which are full of legendary comedy shows. Part of the problem might be that international shows are so accessible to people like me who probably use English more than Finnish in daily life.
There's been a lot of truly horrible people on the show over the years. Usually for Ian to skin them alive. This seemed like an inexperienced young person that he probably didn't want to break on camera and stuck to throwing in jabs at GB "News" where he could.
Boris Johnson was by far the most entertaining guest in this show going back to his first appearance. You can let your personal likes and dislikes color your judgement as we all do: but the response of the participants and Merton in an interview some time ago rating Boris as a good host and guest says it all.
It's OK. she barely said anything anyway and what she did say wasn't funny. They could have cut her out completely and not changed the episode one bit.
For anyone watching this weeks or months later: at 2:15 "bigger news stories of the week, apart from that one because it's just too awful" - it was the attack of Hamas on Israel and Israel's response.

Associating freely: my family lived in NY end of the 19th century. With all the immigrants arriving in overloaded ships, NY was infested with lice, flees and all creepy crawlies among which bedbugs. Their remedy: place each leg of the bed in a tin filled with petroleum. But then there were still these bugs that let themselves fall down on you from the sealing in the dark. Oh, those good old days !
@@linrob1312 I mean, he's dead, so we can't know, but it doesn't seem super likely that he was hoping his nascent fame would be used to build a million pound spa for his daughter. Regardless, she has torpedoed the foundation.
@@London755 She has done them no favours ...if she took some I say fair enough cos every foundation pays someone ..but to then embrace a lavish lifestyle whereby you are getting greedy, is a whole other story and its that that will sink her too.
Just heard on the radio: 39 million was collected for the NHS by the 99 year old Tom, walking in the garden daily during covid, wearing his war medals. His daughter does PR for a living and promoted him succesfully. After he died she took the profit from a book he wrote. Although he wrote in the book that the profit of the book would go to a good cause.

The mayor, waiting to greet him as he steps off the plane, is surprised to see that he is wearing a huge, furry fox hat. He welcomes Prince Charles, then asks why he's wearing such unusual headgear. Charles replies; "When I told the Queen I was going to Ouagadougou, she said 'Wear the fox hat!'"

Do the producers of the show find bits for the missing words round that they know Paul would likely get the exact answer to? If so, do they do it to make Paul look good, or to make him realize he has the same sense of humour as some journalists?
What the hell kind of cave neighborhood do you live in where it's at all OK to run noisy power tools on a Sunday? I schedule my whole week of yardwork around not using power tools on Sunday. Seems like simple human decency, never mind neighborliness. Seriously.
They addressed it at the beginning of the first segment, when Armstrong said, “and now onto the top stories of the week, except for that one; it’s too awful”. It’s not really something to joke about, and with wall-to-wall coverage on every channel, a comedy show is just not the venue to address it.
Love HIGNFY but I'm getting tired of agist jokes. Lazy writing by staff plus Armstrong, Hislop and Merton are getting long in the tooth themselves, so pots calling kettle black to use an equally old adage.
And people are getting tired of Californians bitching about every imaginable thing. Do you seriously have nothing better to do in your life than get offended? If it was up to people like you there’d be no comedy at all
Yeah. It's all they have to criticize Biden about in a quick way. (Not saying he's beyond criticism, just that they'd maybe need more context than their willing to spend time on.)
