Have these Anti Botting Measures Fixed the OSRS Economy?

Over the last 3 years, jagex has put a stronger focus on economic focused updates. From simple changes such as removing items from heavily botted content, to content nerfs and even new account restrictions.
Now that a significant amount of time has passed, I thought it would be interesting to once again look at these updates to see how effective they were. Today I am going to be focusing on some longer term trends that I have noticed in heavily botted items. If these are working, then I think jagex should continue with more similar updates.

I remember the NMZ reward chest selling flax, spider eggs, dragon scales and potato cactus were to lower prices and combat against bots that gathered them from the ground spawns.

Manipulating the economy by nudging and budging certain things acts like squeezing a balloon. Some parts get smooshed in, but everything else equally reacts to it, in response.

As someone who's does zolcano for easy gp. I have to agree, I actually find it a struggle sometimes to find a world with people doing the boss now a days. It's either no one in a world or over crowded with 5+ people.

Massive bot farm at the minnow fishing platform. Multiple bots most worlds, with most having 90-99 fishing. No wonder why sharks are so cheap around 650-700gp.

Invention was such an amazing help for RS3 in creating tons of item sinks, making especially clues worth doing outside of mega rare drops. Truly wish OSRS could find a similar change for its clues because it's depressing to look at TT uniques being more or less worth their hi-alch price.

I think it'd be cool if you could trade your own clue rewards for a slight rng boost for other clue rewards to the mega rare table like sacrifice 40 h3 pieces and you get a .40% increase chance on next master

the fact people can get their hands on accounts with SOTE completed and the mining level to BOT zolcano without being banned right away.. really says a lot about jagex needing to improve their anti bot tactics.

Hell there’s plenty of people who code bots just for FUN, specifically for the challenge of it. It’s a shame, but I can’t blame em, if I had that knowledge idk if would have the disciple to not do it too.

As a botter that never ever got banned on ANY of my accounts (that was in ym use) i can tell you the only botter they get are the ones that use the "comercial" bots that run without any safety and almost 24/7 on 1 account. i know HUGE networks of chinese and venezuelan bots that still runs as long as jagex dont remove those 2 to be able to play i will continou playing free member and have unlimited GP, i can tell you most (not all) of the huge "collectors" accounts are involved in botting.

Zalcanos drop table was the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Idk why Jagex has a hard on for destroying half their game (skilling) with their drop tables. I hate skilling but you can litterally get every skilling mat alot faster( 10×?) by killing stuff then acutlly going to mine or chop.

I think they struggle with ways to maintain a reasonable gp/hr to make bosses last. But agree they should think of more unique ways.

The ornate maul handle rose because the LMS bots were cracked down upon more. There was also a period around Nov/Dec last year when the LMS world rotation was poorly implemented.

Just my opinion they need to make new content be gold/item sinks. Everything is always a profit which doesn’t help. They could implement it like deaths coffer but a raid offer that consumes gold/items.

It looks like Jagex needs to reevaluate how to deal with botting F2P items just from the graphs you showed.

It's not really about how to deal with them, it's the fact that the barrier of entry is low, it takes seconds to make a new account, with no effort. The current system requires a certain number of qp and game time before you can sell items, which is pretty strict as it is, but the problem is, anything humans can do, bots can do. The bots can even make their own email accounts and sign up with membership all on their own.

This argument about spider's eggs going up after being removed from the rewards table from NMZ is exactly why they should remove skilling materials from the drop tables of a lot of monsters. It would make resource gathering skills relevant again.

I have got 7.5 oak logs on ge right now. They're not selling. I sold 3.5k for 100 each and was like this is pretty great money. I then cut 7.5k, went to the GE and they were 105. I put them at 99 each and they're still not bought.

The new wilderness "key loot" system has birthed a legion of pvp bots. Most wilderness training locations are covered by a pvp bot if not a actual pker. "chaos alter" Youre not allowed to train there anymore, almost every world has a pk bot lurking. Dont go into the wilderness anymore to train, the value of bothering just plummeted way bellow zero.

@@LFSPharaoh I get yeah, some sides of the update seemed solid, for helping people get their loot in a PvP fight. But the problem is there's a full time community working to exploit every update with their bit systems. In the quietest times on the server, I had to hop 15 times before being able to offer 10 bones. You're just avoiding pk bots full time, no time go actually get any training in anymore. So why bother at all....

PvP is cancer and as a ironman, if I can't do any training at all cause I'm forever being spammed then I just won't bother entering the wilderness to skill. I totally accept the risk as long as it's fair and the gain on my end is reasonable.

The thing is, a lot of the nerfing and anti-botting measures have ruined low to mid level money makers, skilling, and f2p gameplay. Woodcutting is no longer the primary source for logs, with pvm providing most resources. This makes things like woodcutting more or less null and void. Also, locking easy money makers behind certain diary requirements makes it harder for f2p to progress in the game and eventually buy membership.

every single anti bot measure they take directly hurts legit players only. bots just move to another area to exploit while legit players get screwed over permanently. that's exactly why they "integrity updated" the coin pouches. they knew it was only hurting legit players and they couldn't care less about how things hurt the players. the day they added coin pouches was the day i knew osrs had no future. not specifically because of how coin pouched fucked people over but the fact they forced an update they knew no one wanted and lied about the reasoning.

My friend makes bots, pretty much for a living. It's his hobby more than for money afaik. There is little to no way to stop them. The best way they could, is if they make Member accounts a one-time-purchase and keep them on separate servers in their own version of the game. There can be the F2P shithole, and the Members world with a balanced economy relatively free of bots. As much as I hate world of warcraft, they held such a good chokehold on that for so long, because of the insane price to get in and stay in.
