About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

I was speaking to my husband about this opportunity and he asked me to ask Rob if he does buy it, we would be willing to buy one of the small buildings to refurbish and be a part of the new renovated village.

I’m thinking 10 not so deep pocketed people with $150k in free cash each and the ability to easily spend an additional $150k each over the next 5 - 10 years could make a go of it by forming a partnership if returning it to a village is the goal. As a retired architect and general contractor I would probably approach this project a bit differently than others to do something unique. I have the money, inclination and skill to do it, but at 70 years old, not enough time to enjoy it or finish it without a lot of help. But, I would love to spend the rest of my life there every day working on it none the less. What a great project. Folks forget the only resource we all have that is in short supply ….is time and it takes few prisoners. Count me in if it looks like there will be a group of folks taking the huge project on. Terry should have been an architect but he will train himself to be one in the end anyway.

I love your idea. I'm a small business adviser specializing in food service venues. It could be restored and turned into a vacation or wedding/events destination. With the acreage, a small cider orchard could be planted for an on-site cider mill and bottling facility, a few acres for goats to make cheese, breads baked in the bread oven, and small cottages and a spa and small cafe with formal and wild gardens. Throw in a few RV parking spaces and you're good to go. If a partnership were formed, it would allow for quicker and more beneficial focused restoration and thus, a speedier opening time.

Potentially a beautiful place but there's easily a minimum of five years work, probably nearer 10 years. Well worth the asking price of €100,000 but it will cost at least another €1,000,000 to get it into any sort of shape. Whoever buys it will need deep pockets and lots of time.

Bonjour! There is NO DOUBT in my mind that if Lalacelle were near completion Terry & Ashe would have been drawing up a contract then and there! The land - beautiful, the buildings (gulp) defo are a mammoth task but can imagine this fully restored. ROB, you already know you have a LOT of fans on here and wouldn't it be awesome for you to have your own channel (along with the little pig) as you restore a deserving part of French history. Just saying.

I want to be a part of this. It’s absolutely amazing… to bring a whole village back to life would be incredible! You couldn’t do anything like this in Canada either because it doesn’t exist. The history, the bones of the structures. Amazing!

To us over here in the USA, that’s 12. 1/3 acres and the boys are right, even if it were just empty land, you wouldn’t be able to buy land for $100,039.00 Such-a deal!! I live on 3 acres in North Central Florida and cleared land goes for more than that! I say go for it Rob though I don’t know what your line of business is or your money source. At 70 I look back at my life and sadly there are too many lost opportunities I now wish I’d acted on. I didn’t “Go For It” when my heart wanted to, caution won the day and now I live with my regrets. Always say “What’s the worst that can happen?” and if you can live with whatever that is.. your path is clear. My very best wishes are with you all. 💕🐥💕🐥💕

You'll have a beautiful resort when you are finished.... I was already thinking the chateau was too small for your plans! It looks to only fit family guests and maybe two suites. The village will give you more options for those not wanting to camp out on the land around the chateau. Of course, that should put the building of cabins on hold... which should give you more privacy around your homestead too. This will work, but you'll be bringing in more help, right? The British Invasion all over again!

Beautiful place which was problably linked to the château. Just a little precision : this group of houses cannot be considered as a "village" in french but a "hameau" (hamlet). A village, is bigger and - generally - has a church or a chapel.

Wow, as Terry said, "Beautiful and enchanting".....the old stone and brick structures covered in ivy, broken doors and windows with their antique brass handles.... What's not to love about these wonderful old places where generations of families lived, worked, and grew old. It is definitely a mixed feeling of joy for the beauty and sadness for the abandonment of these once thriving homes. Would love to see this property brought back to life once again. True, 100,000 Euros is unbelievable for a property like this. Thank you for sharing.

I can see a dream for someone or for 2 or 3 people investing in this. Wishing you all the best of luck whatever you decide to do, I love seeing the restoration work you have done so far. A wine store/beer Coffee Shoppe, a chocolate Shoppe, and a bakery, vegetable and herb gardens. Is there a chapel for weddings? Topiaries, garden shop, How many buildings? A lot of work! I’m excited to see you start. Lots of parking space and a village green. French blue and white and stone, of course. Do you have to register it as a village, legally? Some buildings are quite derelict , rotten wood collapsed staircases, & floors. The amount of mould in the walls caused by years of water infiltration from a failed roof would cost an absolute fortune just in materials to repair, let alone the labour. There is a good reason that Frenchmen stay away from such huge financial money pits. For every problem you can envisage there will be many more major issues that will arise. When nature reclaims houses, trees that have plant themselves within a structure will pull moisture into their roots, thus affecting the ground the walls sit on. After many years of abandonment ,you’ll often see major structural cracks, or bowing outwards of exterior walls. I would not buy this village before having a structural engineer evaluate each building.

I can see a couple of grand formal gardens to have weddings and celebrations fill some of the spaces. If you make it commercial including having an Inn you'll definetly need talented staff to help run it. This must have been a fabulous place a century ago. It's a real shame that everything has been stripped from it...not much left. What worries me is that gigantic crack all the way up to the peak on the main house....that whole side of the house is compromised and ready to fall. There's potential here and as much as I would like to see it saved...you would need to be a millionaire to restore this. Definitely have a structural engineer check out this place before buying. I would have had a blast exploring this complex.

Just catching up on your videos. The village looks amazing. We have been thinking about a renovation in France for a long time and love watching what you are doing. Sadly we are probably too old to take on such a large project but if Rob is considering it we could think about going in partnership. We would have sufficient funds to get a lot of the work carried out too. Please let us know if this is an option.

Incredible! To think it's just been sitting there for decades. I watched and wondered what it must have looked like when there were people living there. Still looks beautiful tho

You'd need a village of people and their savings to get that put 'right'. But what a great opportunity in these times ie. Self sufficiency.

Utilise what is already useable there. There will be a cost in renewing much so, keep that in mind when settling on the price. You need to make a good deal from the offset lads! 👍👍👍👍👍

All you need to whip this hamlet back into shape is several million dollars and a dream! 😆

Held back from commenting, was thinking, please tell me they didn't... should have realised you have more sense! However I see the idea of it appeals to you. I don't know that I'd pay 100k for it. The value is probably mostly in the land. The structures would almost totally need to be rebuilt. Costs more to fix a ruin than to start from scratch. Who knows, in time to come, when Lalacelle becomes self-sustaining it might be feasible to revisit this, but that would be a good few years down the line. If anyone else buys it, it will be interesting to see how they get on.

I just subscribed! Love from Edmonton Canada! How exciting for Rob (hopefully)! I will have to go back to the beginning. I just got the 10 minute video showing the progress over the year, now I’m down the rabbit hole! 🇨🇦💐🙋🏼‍♀️🕊💜🏳️‍🌈 We seem to tear down anything of historical significance here, or we did during the 60’s through the 90’s. Now we have nothing left of historic interest it seems. At least there is now a nod toward reclamation. What an amazing opportunity! Mind you Canada is a young country and the west younger yet. I love Southern Ontario and Montreal. Quebec City I’ve not been to but at least there is some 17th century history there.

Wow that is amazing! Oh I hope Rob gets it! A lot of work but still in the area! What a fun and challenging investment! Like you said, get those bread ovens going and that’s a bit of business and then make a bunch of rental properties to let out and it would be profitable!

@@chateaudelalacelle Even if you guys don’t buy maybe you can see exactly how it’s built and see if salvage has one and actually source old stones and build you a replica on site at the Chateau.

Would the French government allow this to be revised and renovated for commercial use ? How much planning and approval would be needed to go forth ? Oh and I loved the way Rob was kicking the tires and checking under the hood so to speak. Some drone shots would have been good.

I would be so curious to see how one might be creative in including local people. With that much land I would be trading local farmers and gardeners space to farm in exchange for clearing etc. Or even potential business entrepreneurs. I kind like the idea of It takes a village to save a village ~

Wow that was fun and my back hurts just looking at the work to restore those buildings. Price is enticing but to old to do it now. Teri and Ash have the young vision to see past the rubble at its beauty.
