I was walking from the face to the ramp. (This happened in a coal mine.) I walked through an intersection that looked perfectly good, no cracks, no drips, no noises. I got two steps past it and it all fell in behind me. The edge of what fell scraped the back of my left bootheel. Two steps slower and I would have been a quarter-inch thick. Not fun.
Oh man, that's no good. I had something similar, but not scary, happen running a packer on a slough. We had dumped a bunch of gravel in and the foreman radioed me to turn the vibe on. I did and then I saw him grabbing his radio and telling me to shut the vibe off and get up the slope. When I got parked, we watched the gravel slowly slide over a maybe 200 foot cliff. I would have freaked out if I had have known what was happening, or even felt anything. It made me look for safer lines of work.
This is the first video, I've seen posted regarding the oil fields of Norther BC and I have previously grew up around that area. Apart from the Haystack event, luckily you came out unscathed, I used to live, Ft St John and Mile 27 Alaska Highway in the 50-60's, work and play around Ft St John myself. However, don't know where the Haystack Hill is? That terrain must be North of Ft St John amongst those new oil patch roads.
Yes sir. It's a pleasure to meet you. I didn't get out here until 2001 and worked building ice roads and leases between FSJ and the territories. You probably ended up in Helmet or July lakes area at some point, but maybe not back then. It was pretty well developed when I got there. As for the Haystack, it runs between the Kobes Creek/Farrell Creek Road and the 95 Rd, just before the Halfway Reserve. I live in Hudson's Hope now, so we do a lot of work up in that area.
@roadhog1987 nah, I would have just let it go if I was worried about that. I just wanted to get the box down so it wasn't so top heavy. I've been in some really sketchy situations out here and this wasn't even near the top of the list.
And then you had to change your undies 😂 because brother I probably would have to 😅 excellent story and beautiful country thanks for sharing this six stars brother
Turns out that it was clear because he took the Altares cut across. Lol. He was closing in on 70, so I figured I would leave it alone. Nothing more embarrassing than getting your ass handed to you by a geriatric.
