Mommy what's for supper?
Can't you see that I'm on the phone?
Hold it down, I just got home!
Isn't it enough that I work all day?
Needs to get a chance to get away!
Dishes, diapers, dirty rags!
Bosses, bills, and nag, nag, nag
Daddy!
Shut up kids, you're in the way!
I'm so mad, I could slap your face!
Did I do something wrong?
Have you hugged your kid today?
Did send him on his way?
With love, love, love, love, love
She's a person just like you
She's got feelings too
So give her love, love, love, love, love, love, love
If you hug him for a while
It'll leave you with a smile
You'll know it's love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
Have you hugged your kid today?

As a child of the 70s, this played non stop on tv. My mom was a horrible mother, dad died when I was a baby. I swore to myself that I would be a better parent when I had kids. I sometimes drive my son crazy, telling him I love him and proud of him a few times a day. 😄 I broke the cycle of abuse.

I'm a 28 year old millennial with boomer parents. My mother is 70 years old and had my much older sister as a teenager. So her journey of motherhood kicked of in 1973. When my mother looks at me, she doesn't see a free thinking adult. She sees an extension of her in another human body. I am just a side character in her story, not the main character of my own story. It's taken years of self reflection to realize this.
@m0L3ify

@@hayley4821 Hard relate. My Silent Generation mom was the same way. As soon as I started expressing individuality, wants, and needs as a toddler, I was horribly and violently punished for it to the point where I fragmented myself to survive. Child Emotional, Mental, Physical Abuse and Neglect still happens in 2024 as it has been happening since human beings walked the earth! April is Child Abuse Prevention Month! It is everyone 's responsibility to report child abuse to social services whether you are a parent or not! If people abuse animals, they will abuse people! Animal Abuse must stop! Not everyone was meant to be a parent or wants to be a parent! Birth Control Rights and Prochoice Rights must be upheld in the United States of America! Boomers are only just reaching nursing home age. It was Boomers who put their parents in nursing homes well-before necessary and abandoned them there never visiting. Boomers created the American stereotype of elderly abandonment. Gen X's and Millennials' parents are barely old enough and we still aren't doing this except out of necessity when they need care we cannot provide, and even then it is usually assisted living facilities first.

Remember folks the boomers were raised by a generation that came back from WW2 in tatters. PTSD was rampant but nobody talked about it. Boomers grew up with abusive alcoholic parents (mostly dads) and moms who had to pretend life was perfect. The result? Boomers who had no clue how to be parents and instead dove into careers, tasks and hobbies to deal with their lack of empathy. Work was their primary focus of their lives because after all, working until 2:00 AM to get ahead and show devotion to the company. Ever wonder why boomers worked until they die and somehow equate this with heroism? Here ya go. Meanwhile GenX had to rebuild our country while working for tyrannically bad bosses. So, here we are. Looking at a throwback PSA to when GenX was at home alone (latchkey kids) watching cartoons and this ad came up and the parents weren’t even home. Can you tell I’m a bit upset? Hah.

My mom's mom has never been affectionate. (I refuse to refer to her as grandma) I contributed it to her lack of empathy and social skills due to being born deaf. But this does make sense. My maternal side has so much generational trauma it's not even funny. My mom ended up turning to meth as a way to self medicate. Her father touched her, her mother failed to protect her. She became a troubled teen lost in the system. She literally got thrown in juvie and forgotten about. It all messed her up in the head. And then my sisters and I came. She lost custody of my older sister and went on to have me and ran away from that county. She was not a good mother, although she thought she was. I'm trying to break the cycle with my boys now but man is it hard.

I remember this from a Christian channel in the 80s when I lived near St. Louis. This one and the commercial where it shows this guy beating on a clay sculpture of Jesus representing how we treat Jesus and say his name in vain and blame him for our problems and at the end the guy realizes how he has been acting and makes amends with Jesus. I will always remember these two commercials.

I remember watching this in the late 80s/early 90s on KNLC channel 24 in St. Louis. Channel 24 was a low budget Christian TV network run by Larry Rice Ministries. Larry Rice is known as kind of an interesting character in this region. He's probably most known for his work feeding and sheltering the homeless, his ministry and it's TV station, and for running for mayor; and depending who you ask, he's either a selfless crusader and advocate for the area's downtrodden, or he's an attention-obsessed charlatan more concerned with his media profile than with actually helping the city's poor. I dunno, nobody's perfect, but he seemed like the only person trying to help the homeless around here, too bad they shut him down.

Oh Gen X I used to love it when these commercials came on as annoying as they were as it would make other Gen X'ers leave the room possibly cussing and so I would then watch whatever I wanted instead of having to fight over the TV lol. This happened many times even at school the commercial came on in the middle of some tape recording of a school house rock. That teacher was grading papers and could not get to the VCR fast enough lol, so we saw commercials, everyone was annoyed and I laughed it up.
