Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Labour, conservative, Labour, conservative Wake up people Don’t be scared of real change
Is the first time ive watched Owen Jones and not wanted to throw anything at him! I come from a different political stance, but i concur with him on todays result. It is not a victory for labour, our voting system must change and i am so sick of labour or tory. No passion or hope for our labour government, id happily be proved wrong.
Disgraceful comment in the first sentence. If you respect democracy, you will not have any problem with opposing views. Jones is not afraid to speak truth to power and is one of the few analytical commentators with a coherent understanding of contemporary politics and history.
@@eightiesmusic1984 meanwhile, back in the real world where people disagree all the time, my point was that I usually disagree with Owen just not on this occasion.
@@shacklock01 yes corporate socialism benefits the corporations over the public ( socialism for the corporations and austerity for the public). Not to be confused with democratic socialism where the public funds benefit society over the corporations. We don’t have any major political parties that are not socialist Ie they all have governments A collective pot ( public funds/ sovereignty) and they all use taxation. The all support free market enterprise They Just have different ideas where the public funds are spent and what regulations they have on free market enterprise.
@@timwoodger7896 Ah got you. I'd just call that neoliberalism personally. But I agree 100% Generic definition - a political approach that favours free-market capitalism, deregulation, and reduction in government spending ( I'd also add to that weaponizing identity politics and other culture-war wedge issues. I suppose corporate socialism works cos both parties want to firesell every public asset off to corporations and then go join those corporations after their terms expire)
@@shacklock01 bang on ! It just gripes me when all the other socialists parties don’t admit they are socialist and then act like socialism doesn’t work 🤦. It’s time we as a nation woke up to the games, the misdirection and the manipulation.
@@TheHeninhardenneWhy, because he wants an end to the genocide in Gaza, which any decent civilised human being would want?…..My god. See folk like you moan about illegal immigrants and refugees, but fail to acknowledge our role in creating the problem like invading Afghanistan, Iraq and removing Gaddaffi. Granted we’re not responsible for Albanians, but we’ve seriously destroying and destabilised a lot of the Middle East. I would argue the Tories and Red Tories want illegal and mass immigration as it helps their wealthy friends who run businesses.
Not when you listen to the Mandelson rant on the BBC when the Islington result came through. He implied that the 24000 were voting for Labour and voted for Coorbyn by mistake. His horrid rant was not picked up by Laura Kuesenburg infact her contribution was what went wrong. Not even acknowledging that he had a strong local support. Mandelson his Starmer chief adviser so just think how bitter and twisted he will be when petulant voters question his letter leadership he can't defranchise them. When a person lies to get the leadership of the party do not expect him to change his spots now. We will see PFIs used to finance the NHS and the completely watered down green energy policy. The energy utilities are being bought back into public ownership at all. Starmer is a snake who actually has less than 34% of the electorate
You clearly didn’t read their manifesto then, because it offered nothing. I’ll also add that it’s blatantly obvious that Labour under Starmer are not to be trusted, I mean he reneged on all of those pledges he made. He’s also getting the backing of former Tory billionaire donors and the Murdoch press which speaks volumes. To be fair Keir Starmer lies just as much as Boris Johnson. Labour will just maintain the status quo for the establishment and if you can’t see that then you must be new to following UK politics.
I think he wasn't really complaining about being driven out, more highlighting the fact that as along as the two main parties drive people out with division and infighting, it will cause those voters to, in turn, seek out other parties which will serve them better. Also as a side note, Owen had numerous articles trying to appease people whilst in Labour, to which the left themselves disliked him for his allegiance in various ways. Don't agree with him on everything but he is at least consistent, and if not, changing tack for a solid reason as opposed to a pay off or something
Mike Parry speaks a lot of words about "traditional conservatism", but says nothing about what it looks like Trad Tories need to stop being coy about what they stand for, and champion what they believe, otherwise they will just fade away
