I been a MRI tech for 4 years! If you have high anxiety I have a few tips for you! Bring a friend or family member to come in room with you! Ask if they have music for you to listen while getting scanned, cover your eyes with a wash cloth or ask your doctor for a sedative before you schedule the test. Also ask the tech to give you a count down during the scan. Ask them to talk to you every 3 minutes. This really helps.Remember breathe normal. Pretend you are going to sleep or think about a fun time and just focus on that. Avoid caffeine. The tech will always give you a emergency call button if you have to come out. Ask if you can take a look at the machine before the scan. If this fails , look for a open mri in your area.
THANK U!!! COULD U TELL ME PLS: I'LL HAVE PELVIC MRI AND I WONDER THE NOISE HOW LOUD IS IT? IT SCARES U OR U JUST CAN HEAR IT NORMAL EVEN IF U HAVE THE HEADPHONES? ALSO CAN U TELL ME IF I HAVE A TOOTH ... CAN AFFECT THE RADIOTION EVEN IF IS PELVIC MRI? HOW URGE I CAN FEEL LIKE GOING TO LOO I GOT PAIN IN MY BLADDER WHEN I DONE ULTRA SOUND SCAN I HAD BIG PAIN, IS THE SAME PAIN? MANY THANKS I'LL REALLY APPRECIATE FOR THE REPLY!
I had an MRI today. The technician did not talk to me at all. A count down would have been helpful. I shut my eyes the whole time but the noise I found so distressing despite ear plugs. 45 minutes later it was over but I didn’t enjoy it. I am slightly claustrophobic so next time perhaps a sedative.
I had a Open MRI to due to really freaking out to be in the closed one. My tech was awesome he explained everything to me and was very nice. The open MRI was not scary at all. Thank God for allowing me to calm down my nerves prior to .Now I’m gonna wait for the results and pray.
Had an MRI on my neck last Monday and the staff are fantastic, reassuring and explain everything well. Very thorough with paperwork so be ready to go over it a couple of times.i was put into the machine head first and had a camera placed over my head too. You are told how long each scan will take and I got through it by closing my eyes and counting 1-60 slowly for however many minutes. There were a few scans lasting 3-4 minutes each. It is noisy with various different sounds but you have earphones and there is quite a selection of music you can listen to. There is a mirror in the head attachment so you can see the staff, which is good and they check you are okay, via your headphones, between each scan. You also have the alarm if you need it and staff can be with you in seconds. Not going to say it was totally comfortable as I did feel restricted but once the machine started I was fine.
I had a Head MRI 2 days ago on this very machine. Although it looks more modern due to a refurbishment. This in turn made the scan much quicker 2 x 5 minute scans. The machine was noticeably quieter more like a modern car alarm. I had a single contrast injection between scans without the usual cannula. So much better than they used to be.
Caution on MRI with contrast gadolinium. I am a MRI w /Contrast's victim in 2020 : Next day of an abdomen MRI with contrast Gadolinium injection : muscle, joints, nerves pain, feet and hands and fingers tingling electric, fogging memory. The cost of an MRI is about $4,000- $6,000, They order me to a CT scan, then an MRI and an MRI with contrast together. Then more problem to your health, they send you to others specialists to get more treatment , then no cure available. The pain last for ever to today almost 4 years. I have notified FDA, but no help. They did not warn me before the injection, but oblige me to sign on the brochure when I came to pickup the DVD of MRI result. Please FDA help protect our human citizen. The Physician have to warn, explain to patient before ordering MRI with contrast. In Europe they forbid the MRI contrast gadolinium. Date 8/4/2003' ( see Gadolinium Toxicity, Gadolinium Deposition Disease).
Had 1 today went in head first for brain scan.Quite scary and noisy I had headphones on playing rock music. After 20 minutes all over put your mindsome where else like a hot day at the beach do not move or fall asleep.Be brave it will be worth it in the end.
I have mine on thursday , but I'm from germany so maybe its a little different 😅 but i also have a head scan to look if i have a cholesteatoma behind my eardrums
Two and a half weeks to go until my pelvic MRI. I like the look of these latest MRI machines. I believe mine will be one of the newer "wide bore" machines. I refuse to scare myself over this.
Wrong . Latest one according to ACR . There is zone 1 , 2 and 3 area in MRI unit . Interview PT. In level 1 and let pt. fill up screening form and questioner . , next level 2 , pt. changed clothes and wear gown , removed everything except undergarment also jewelries and put in the locker and nurse will come ask questions identify right PT. allergies and confirm pt. has no problem with gadolinium based contrast injection and she will insert an IV or intravenous line , then in level 3 MRI tech will double checked pt. go over with screening form and will bring PT. In zone 3 , wand pt . For any metallic object outside and inside the body , any implant , pacemaker or anything that is not allowed to go to MRI. If ok then to proceed in Zone 4 where machine is located for the test and position , explain PT. how many minutes , breathing instructions and in case of emergency. giving PT. Reassurances and give the panic ball. for emergency.
REALLY NICE VIDEO AND THANK U!!! I'LL HAVE PELVIC MRI AND I WONDER THE NOISE HOW LOUD IS IT? IT SCARES U OR U JUST CAN HEAR IT NORMAL EVEN IF U HAVE THE HEADPHONES? And a radio broadcast transmitter and receiver and a computer processor and gradient magnets and a lifting device and software and antennas and a motorized pallet and an EKG machine and a respiratory monitor and a laser and a call device and a knee bolster
I’ve had theses there no biggie but there EXTREMELY loud even with the ear protection they give u I have had to have them every year up until a few years ago due to my neurofibromatosis
I'm Having One Next Monday But I'm very claustrophobic and the scan is going to take up to an Hour and 45 minutes So I'm going to have to be sedated for it!! I guess I have a Cyst by my brain stem 😓
@@poppypeppa0186 Well... Turns out I'm epileptic on my right side! So that is a bummer! But I'm on a medication called Vimpat and it seems to work very well
I can't have it no more due to being shot three different times and grazed upper arm and thigh on the right side and lower back and was told by the police chief of West St. Paul was told about the charged the mom of Courtney Williams and the other time. He plead guilty for it.
I'm having my first MRI Monday at 11:00 am. Does anyone know if that is a drip iv or just a shot like at the beginning? I'm getting so nervous about this will be looking at my liver.
Had an MRI on abdomen. It was a canula to insert first while on the scanner bed then machine controlled injection of marker dye. Hope your procedure went well with good result.
The contrast contains chelated gadolinium (toxic heavy metal like mercury trapped in chelates, mostly safe but long term effects are unknown. Few people report similar severe side effects and poisoning from retained gadolinium in the body that never left.). The procedure is very noisy. It can go up to 110+ (even 130 i think) decibels. Your hearing is safe if you wear protective headphones.
@@dangeroussnek8932 Not sure where you got the information from but the contrast medium is an iodine compound in saline. Modern machines are not as noisy as a modern washing machine on a high speed spin. Never needed or indeed offered ear protection which would render the automatic or radiographers instructions or enquiries useless!
I have been find it difficult 2 have a mrI as whan I lay down it hurt my back with the pain that I get it have try 2 time now need same help 2 no want it can do next carole watttam
I had a horrible experience the noise sent me into shock everybody said stay calm stay calm and did nothing for me it took me three days to get rid of the shaking that I was going through from the loud banging they got the pictures which I’m grateful for but these machines are rough it’s not their fault I’m not blaming anyone just my experience
I'm a bit surprised at the difference in scan practices. A couple of CT scans were just a case of making sure nothing metallic was around for the scan while in the scanner room. MRI was much the same. Wearing normal clothes and not gown. The canula was fitted when on the scanner bed in each case and the whole process over in no more than 15 minutes. The MRI needed the coil on me to complete the process but added little time. I also had a kidney function test with a gamma camera which involves a dye injection then a period for the dye to go around the blood stream and kidneys begin to deal with it. That's a longer process because you have to wait a couple of hours for the dye to be absorbed. I went out to the town for lunch and a drink of water as told. Again you're in a scanner with a couple of added items for a bit more time. Best to try to not get stressed about it and accept it's for your health. Luckily my tumour/cancer hadn't grown over a tree year period so it's fingers crossed for the future.
No without coil nothing will happen. You just lie in there and the scan has started but there is nothing to receive the Radio frequency signals that are essential to get the Pictures. But sometimes it is possible to lie in another Coil that just goes around your Head but your Face is open. But these are not good to study the Brain. More for Bone structures from your Neck upwards. This is one example from General Electrics: soundimaginginc.com/media/djcatalog2/images/item/7/16-ch-head-neck-coil.2_f.jpg
I had a hips and knee MRI a few years ago. I never went any further than my shoulders in the machine. It wasn’t bad at all but I don’t suffer from claustrophobia. Good luck!
Why was she allowed to keep her necklace on? Thought all jewelry, including body piercings are to be removed. Okay, I see why, she's not going in head first.
‘A typical scan can take up to 20 minutes to complete’ 20 minutes??!!?! 20 minutes??!! Do you know how long I was in my mri scan for? 1 hour and 30 mins!!! And that was just for a scan on my lower abdomen!!
Well I've had three and they all took around 20-35 minutes xD well it wasn't for my abdomen but I've had one for my head, back and, pelvis so yeah I'm really sorry for you :'D
In our system, less sedation is used , unless it is necessary , indeed. Dental sedation is local n includes controlled practice with venom from snakes. Explained to me by one of the best dentists I had. I had an MRI on the private outpatient practice . Without sedation . With us , these things happen dressed up in our own clothes. This is not my problem. 🙁👎🏻🤢Our doctors are skilled n much less authoritarian . We are not a guardian society.
